O yeah, I've seen "HIMH" on that channel too.  It was 4 in the morning, mind you, but nevertheless it came on.  I was gutted.  That was never even in the top 40 over here in the US.  I thought it quite odd that they'd play that and not "RITF" or "LIL."  I HAVE seen "SAY" quite a few times of course.

<NON-LEVEL42>

Lolita, I have all the Carte Blanche CD's, as well as nearly all of
the Naked Music label's catalog. Almost everything they put out is gold
(gold Jerry, gold!!) Check out http://www.naked-music.com

I've also had a few pow-wow's about this material with Dan James, so
that makes at least a few of us who also delve into the soul/deep house/
lounge genre.

If you like the Carte Blanche series, I also highly recommend the Nude
Dimensions series (also on Naked Music). The Carte Blanche is supposed
to be more electric lounge, whereas the Nude Dimensions are supposed
to be the deep house variety. They start to overlap considerably after
you listen to them for a while :)

Lastly, the Om Lounge series is also very good, and generally a bit
more varied than the Carte Blanche series. In particular, check out
Om Lounge 5 -- Lolita, I think you'll dig this alot :)

Oh, and extra lastly, I'm a huge fan of DJ Miguel Migs, who lives and
breaths the deep/house & lounge genre. Very listenable!

I've also got a few of my own mixes that I put together from mp3
sources that I'd be happy to share (75mb windows media file format.)
Email me for more info.

cheers,
Eric

Okay, on behalf of all those who are far too polite to pry, it's time for
me to be nosy. What happened with your web site?

Hey, Micro-Kids:

Nice note from Royal. I enjoy "Take a Look" too,
though I don't thing "Staring at the Sun" as a whole
has the impact of the other L42 albums. I think the
remix of it was quite potent. I think the video was
quite stylish.

My favourite from that album is "Staring at the Sun."
The best remixes of a song from that album were
probably "Heaven In My Hands" and "Two Hearts
Collide," amd the latter blows away the album version
by letting Mark King's bassline shine. I would have
much preferred hearing both of the remix versions on
the album.

I was happy to feature L42 on my entertainment report
for the network yesterday. I sure hope more people
remember what a quality band they have been.

TCOY,
The Duke

Thanks everyone, especially Richy for the "Are You Hearing.." ringtones. I
have no idea if it works yet, my wife took my phone this morning!!!! I will
tell you later.

To the person asking about "Take A Look": I NEVER liked this song very much
although the video is quite good. I LOVE the 12" remix by Tom Lord Alge
though!!! It seems to capture the spirit of the song without sacrificing
sonic "quirkiness" from synths and effects production. The normal version is
simply a ballad with a sappy melody and a wicked bassline from Mark. There
is a good song in "Take A Look" somewhere but I think production on Staring
At The Sun failed to bring it out. I sometimes have the same feeling with
songs like "The Sun Goes Down" and "Running In The Family" with it's
sluggish feel.

I have a better idea -- how about slapping people who subscribe using
their work addresses and then don't unsubscribe while they're on three
weeks holiday...? :)

> BTW, Winman gave me Carte Blanch 3 and I play it all the time. Do you have
> 1 and 2? I will send you some of my homemade compilations in return?

I have the first one I could send you if Eric doesn't. It's not quite as
good as the third but it's still good. I have some other stuff you'd
probably like as well (more nu jazz type stuff).

Lolita asked about the 'out of office' replies... I took care of
the typical english ones after Xmas (i.e., "Vacation reply", "Out of
the office:", etc.), but this one threw me for a loop since it wasn't
in english. I've now added the message filter for subjects containing
"(Holiday / Urlaub)", so we should be all set. (what language is this
anyways? :)

cheers,
Eric

Level 42 Digest for Tuesday, January 07, 2003
Apparently Incognito is touring, or at least gigging this spring. The
Jazz Cafe lists dates at the end of April, and I am very seriously
thinking of coming to London for a show or two
 .

This mystery is easily solved -  I will ask Bluey myself.  He was on tour in Japan for three weeks until mid-December, but I'm sure he's back in London right now.  Dan, I will call him this weekend and if I do reach him I'll post the answer to the digest on Sunday morning...

He likely is touring, and I'm sure will be coming back to the U.S. because he just finished an album in the studio.  He was disappointed that his last album was never released in the U.S. - it wasn't even available as an import, as I bought it while in London - and I know he wants to correct that and make sure this one is.  As a result, I'm sure he would want to cross the big pond to promote it. Dan, if he is doing a show over there and I'm not traveling for work, I will meet you over there, as I would be able to get us in gratis...

Lolita

Hello Level Heads!! I'm a long time reader and first time poster, but I just had to say something about L42 on VH1 Classic. They have a request hour everyday and I've been requesting RITF or something at least once a week to no avail. Looks like they finally got the message.

If you want to request videos the email address is VH1ClassicRequests @ vh1.com .
