| (Loz) >(I might add, his [Gary's] references are > to something other than the 'old vs new' debate) Yes, I think so, this is mainly do to the SIMPLE fact that life is a bit more complex than the thesis that if someone doesn't like the "new" band (or instrument-player(s)) than 'most certainly' this is someone that is "living in the past", "can't get with the new", "can't adapt to change", and other such nonsense. A critique of the current does not mean a longing for the past, it means that the current just ain't getting it right. > But I thought it was refreshingly clear to know that > the whole Level 42 thing is some kind of > retrospective homage to the music - Hasn't this been obvious(?), and basically what I've said all along? (not directed at you, Loz, as I know you kind knew this too). But of course out trusty leader would never tell us that and string us along with a bunch of bullsh...lies about possible new music/no new music, etc. (now everyone that has their sensitive barriers at full tilt while feel I'm "slagging" MK...) >Mark > intimates the same - the tour was to get those old > hits out there again being played live. well, yeah, side from cloaking his band in a new/old (there it is again!) name to rake in that lovely bank-noted paper. >But I've been AT PAINS all along > to say how much I've enjoyed Mark's recent tours. Yes, Loz, you seem to add it into EVERY post. Don't be so defensive. ;) > The one thing I do object to is the profanity of the > last few days - talk about dragging the digest down > by just throwing around abusive language. Odd, in a world where The Osbourne's is top entertainment how sensitive people can still be to words. While I pepper my post with the occasional 'four-letter', aware that younger people are (obviously) among us (adults need to move on with it), I do misspell them (but sorry, when quoting Miles Davis, you just gotta talk like that...)... While I understand, I hardly see it as "dragging down". (although the John Holmes thing was a bit unneeded...) >waw, what's all of this. First > slagging off Lyndon, Saying LC can't sing in the high register, which is needed on a fair portion of "level42" tunes, is not slagging. (mistakenly edited out name) > I don't know nothing about playing instruments but I > must say that I like ALL the bandmembers and I think > they are all good musicans. Hmmmmmmm, how does one know what a "good musician" is when, admittedly, one knows "nothing" about how one achieves said musicianship. (Let alone being a "musican" ;) ) hmmmm, I know nothing about the Japanese language, but -I think Yukio Mishima is an excellent writer. -I know nothing about immunohistochemistry, but I do think that this heart-valve section shows positive staining for MHC-II. Just doesn't quite work, does it. (?) No offense is meant directly toward you, but you seem to be defending something and then throwing yourself in a corner with non-logic. > I'm affraid to go to the > next gig, I don't know what the reaction from the > current bandmembers is going to be in the future to > 'us fans'. I wouldn't worry about it. With MK you can flip a coin to, and I can not picture Gary being anything but cordial and a gentleman. The other I don't know about. > Oh well, it's time Mark bring out a live album (if > he has one) that some people can talk about > something else. Yes, I am dying for _another_ CD with LiL, SAY, CWay, LGames, ect ect, on it. (oops, I keep deleting out names...well, sorry...) >I strongly object removing anyone > from the list whatever his > or her opinion, just because he dares speak out > loud. I agree with this...200%, as someone 'said' earlier. (Bruce) >To JT - Thank you for the informed > response. I have seen the Burning for Buddy videos. > Neal doing a "fair" job playing jazz is about as > well as I would put it. "Trouble swinging", as you > put it, is pretty much self-explanatory. You're welcome. Yes, Neil is good, no doubt, but he's a tiny bit out of his area there, but all the credit to him for trying (not to mention organizing that whole project). Listening to it on it's own may have a better sound than him being sandwiched in between sheer groove masters like, Steve Smith and Bill Bruford, etc. (Mr. A.F.) >Rush started out > pretty much as a Led > Zeppelin cover band, as I recall. Various covers, but yes. (it even started out Geddy Lee-less) > Geddy Lee's recent solo album _My Favourite > Headache_ is an interesting > insight into who contributes what to Rush. I think it's his only solo album, and them Lifeson has one called _Victor_ and Neil, well, Neil has a book on biking around Africa... (_The Masked Rider_ it is called, for those interested, and be aware, it has NOTHING to do with music). > (Graham Brand) >I was just thinking it would be great > to see the guys play one of the songs on the set > list by swapping instruments. The numerical possibilities for me giving a snide reply to this are too abundant. Although with a tiny bit of thought on it; thinking about the boring, going through the motions set-list/show, this could be damn interesting. I'm up for a whole show! (D.Z.) > But couldn't it also be, Dan, that you are so > blindly prejudiced against Gary (simply because he's > the replacement and not the original) thay your > judgement is impaired? Good point, and the kind of thing that makes the verdamnt "old/new" thing, sadly, stick more than it should. > I love Glenn Gould! I always enjoyed the way he > would absent-mindedly hum along with his playing, > even in the studio. Check out Keith Jarret. > (Travis Baker) > So what does everyone reckon that > level 42 will have for their music songs > list when they tuor? > I think they will play some of their old hits, but > mostly theiur newer and > best stuff!!!! Travis, check the date on the milk in your 'fridge, you have a strange definition for "new"! Sometimes I think you are... Gary Husband posting to us (with alias, of course) to show us his funny side! (Jonathan Veal) > Can you please write some nice happy and friendly > messages to the digest this week to keep me sane - > ta!!!! (Winnie the Pooh-esque "think think" going on...): ummmmmmm, I saw some sheep babies this morning and the little pond (moreso a couple of puddles, really)outside the clinic has hatched it's frog eggs and there are _tons_ of tadpoles about. http://members.aol.com/zygoat8/bandmate.html GARY HUSBAND - "Well, for the record, I think Phil Gould was a wonderful drummer, and I think the sound of him and Mark playing together was much preferable to anything I came up with ... and I'm being totally honest here. I had moments, here and there, but generally I ended up just doing the best I could do with it all, and some of it stands up well and some of it just sucks!!" Now, I should add, I don't think any of Gary's drumming with Level 42 'sucks', far from it. I've seen no other drummer ever I've have rather had taken Phil's place. You only have to see him perform once and you'll probably be rating every other drummer you ever see against him. L()Z Visit our web site at www.scottwilson.com Privilege and Confidentiality Notice. | >From Jonathan Veal.... >>Dan,,,,,, Bye - leave us, this is a community, sharing a common theme and appreciation of Level 42........ Why should he ? - he has every right to be here as you do, should he leave just because his view is different from yours ?. I don't agree with what Dan said about Gary (and especially the personal insults), but I'm beginning to think that maybe he has a point about some folks on here being blindly loyal no matter what. Insults aside, being a part of this community isn't about agreeing all the time, Dan must " appreciate " something about Level 42 otherwise he wouldn't be here right ? Don't forget he has now apologised to us here, and I think he regrets what he said. Personally I'd want no part of a digest where people are scared to post if it conflicts with the majority viewpoint. I can understand and agree with folks being angry with Dan, but to come back at him with swear words and insults of your own is pretty immature and worthless. You moan at DAN for unconstructive criticism, yet (apart from a few folks) offer none yourselves. Threatning to quit the digest over this is also a bit immature and babyish too, like any of us are going to turn round and beg you to stay on both knees...sheesh ! Let's move on. Dean | ||

Hi - I've been a
subscriber for a while, but mostly as one of the 'silent
majority'.
I've just got
tickets to see a band live at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on 18th October.
I'm not bothered what they call themselves. I'm not even particularly
bothered about the line-up (as long as it includes a certain Mark King!).
I'm just looking forward to what I'm sure will be a great evening of some of my
favourite tunes, performed live. There's nothing quite like live music,
IMO - keep belting out the oldies but goodies, guys!!

Okay, I may regret starting this, as it is done every
year, but I made some changes (no pun) this time, as my favs change on a yearly
basis it seems, the set list does not consider that Level 42 will release
anything NEW prior to the fall tour:

order)
My version of LEVEL 42

thinking, but again like I said last year, it is okay to dream big! I
wonder if Mark, on his website, will ask the fans to vote
again.......

| "..But I guess some people want life delivered like the way CNN is broadcasting." Heavens no, I don't even watch CNN. But what I am asking is that the language be delivered abit more politely. When I post, I don't use harsh language..I don't feel the need to to get my point across. It's just that I'm certain that my kid isn't the only one that reads this website. I'm just trying to be conscientious about that. The dialogue is fascinating at times; just that it's been abit harsh lately. I'm just making a friendly request to tone the cussing down...for my kid's (and others) sake. I hoping that's not alot to ask. | Folks, If I were Eminem I'd be loving all this bile floating around yonder digest. Remember a couple of years ago there was some dude doing much the same thing only he was (seriously) deriding digest members...?? Well, I too was shattered when the Goulds left an thought that was it. Bought SATS and though it grew on me my initial experience was "This is too different!" But, to me, Gary has become an offical member of Level 42 and I think he's brilliant. I still play Guaranteed quite often. I'm still a Gould fan but Level 42 have different 'shades' kinda like Picasso's 'blue period'. So I do appreciate Gary, as an equal to Phil Gould. Not better, not worse but different. Plus, Mark gets on great with him. All the better for longevity, whether it's Level 42 on tour or 'Marky Mark and Grupo Mark King' on tour!! Right!!! Some new (music) material then!!!!!! God Speed. | Dear members, I don't really want to make any more postings regarding the Dan ... whatever his name is, issue. I would, though, like to just extend a big thank you for the many nice letters I've received since I was motivated to come on here last time! I appreciate them! Y'know ... well, this fellow's undoubtedly enjoying being hot topic of the moment, and I really don't want to spoil his fun!! A famous Andy Warhol utterance rather obviously springs to mind!! I would like to make clear to this guy though, (and hopefully he's reading!) about where he seems to think I am speaking to all fans when I said things along the lines of "don't bother waiting at the stage door for a friendly chat" and using the term "idiots", while addressing another issue. Since Dan was insistent EVERY WORD got read, and scrutinised properly, perhaps he chose to overlook the both times I clearly directed my statements "to those concerned" - i.e. the fraternity who get offensive and personally insulting .... i.e. in this case primarily TO YOU DAN!!! You, and the certain other small percentage. Also, my aim was not to just come on here and "offend back" either. I just wanted to make my feelings clear. I wanted to make clear what I'm about, and what I'm about in relation to what's on the road right now, about my standing playing music of the old band in the form of this present touring "Level 42" line-up ... and just the whole thing. The old vs.new thing is so tedious hopefully I addressed that adequately too. Dan the "man", y'know, sorry if you don't particularly like what I do on stage, but I think I can handle not having a fan in you!! I never did respond very well however, to personally offensive, personally or professionally insulting, or slanderous attacks. ALL of which you are rather "brutally banging" out in my direction yourself my friend!!! Realise this too. I was motivated to start checking these forums out in the first place while on the tour last year, out of a genuine interest into what people thought, and what the reaction was to the performances. Enough "finesse" in that for you buddy!?? Anyway...... Enough already. Boring! G.H. www.garyhusband.com | ||

AG, I find it hard to believe that Mark would go through the process of obtaining the rights to Level 42 and then only perform two tours. But yes, the Lighthouse Family are just a little bit sh!t, so I'm with you on that one. I think I'm more inclined to agree with jt - "ultimate" is being used to convey "the best of". But what it also signifies to me is that there will be no new material. Just one new track would be something to get excited about at the moment... And before anyone starts the whole "Just be thankful they're out there playing" let me say this - if MK/L42 want 30 of my hard-earned quid from me for the Hammersmith gig, then something new isn't asking too much I don't think. Anyone heard the new White Stripes album yet, by the way? DO believe the hype - it is quite simply awesome. Going to see them on the 11th at Brixton and I can't wait. Also going to see Brendan Benson on the 10th, and he's worth checking out too folks.
