Good morning / afternoon / evening all........
I've been subscribed to this list for a while now and decided to send my second ever message - It's my opinion and I don't care if I annoy some of you...
I totally agree with the below!!!!!!
>Prob is some people cannot move on. According to some using the name "level 42" is an
>outrage. But if Mike, Phil and Boon does not have a prob with mark and the lads using
>the name - then why should we.

For Info on: Level 42 The Ultimate Collection Tour see Level 42.com - same old music - BUT I'm going coz I love the old music - you can't beat it live - the atmosphere the 'crap' support band etc ........ I'll buy a tee-shirt - and have a great evening out - there probably won't be any new music - BUT the gigs will sell out - WHY??? Because people enjoy them - THE PEOPLE who want to see the 'real' Level 42 as they put it (ie - Mark, Mike, Phil, Boon + maybe Wally, Annie, Kris Mach and John Thirkell) Will NOT like it - BUT they don't have to go!!!! They can sit at home and think about the past- - This is now and the best you're gonna get......... And as a semi-pro musician (Bass Trombone, Bass Guitar and singer) I think all the members of Level 42 on this future tour and the last tour are very good - NB you get 2 pro musicians playing the same piece and they'll sound different - we all interpret things differently - If we all played it exactly the same wouldn't life be dull - might just as well mime to a backing track......
Well lets just hope for Love in a Peaceful World - wouldn't it be nice........
Thanks for listening.........

Hello friends,

How are you all doing?

It’s been a wee while now since I posted a message but to be honest I’ve been reading the Old versus New debate for some time now and there seems to be no end to it at all! Interesting comments though!

I suppose it would bother me to read members of a Digest Site having a go at their favourite band, but I’ve grown to not let that bother me so much these days.

Anyway, whose bought their tickets for the new tour?? Well I’ve just about secured my tickets for the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. I wonder if during the concert anyone will rise from their seat and declare in a profound voice,  “Hey Mark, I prefer the Old Line-up to the New one”……..I think not!!

So let’s get a grip and move on to something new to talk about. Perhaps the new Tour!

Oh and by the way, has anyone noticed that the number of members, signed up to this site, is rapidly dropping? Could it be that maybe, just maybe, they are fed up listening to the same old debates time after time. I’m not one to stand in your way guy’s but let’s talk about something else for Christ sake!!

Take care folks,

Davy

Folks, I'm forwarding this at the request of Marina, who runs the Gary Husband Info. service.

Dear friends and website managers,

Gary Husband - Diary Of A Plastic Box. 1998.

Gary Husband's long out of print album from 1998 last copies of original pressing finally available at http://www.121music.com/pages/cd4/diary.html
On this page you'll find samples of the tracks, a review quotes, and a trustworthy method of obtaining it.
The album was recorded mostly on tour in many parts of the world, in dressing rooms, hotel rooms etc., on tour with level 42, Billy Cobham, Allan Holdsworth and others. Featuring extensively the keyboard sound Gary used on the Allan Holdsworth "Wardencliffe Tower" album, this is "fusion on the move" - the mad, improvisational world of Gary Husband. On sale now!
Full details on Gary's official site at http://garyhusband.com/

Sincerely,

Marina - Gary Husband Info.

No, I didn't say that.  You're talking about commercial success now, not the quality of the musicians.  The commercial success of the early Level 42 (as with any band) resulted from a mix of their combined talent, Mark's burning desire to have hits, and--not the least--being in the right place at the right time.  If the original line-up were to reunite, I doubt seriously that they could produce top-selling hits today, simply because their style of music (any version of it) doesn't fit into today's pop culture.  To have a hit, they'd have to change so much that you likely would turn against them for so doing.

Look, Mark has every right to play Level 42 songs, as he co-wrote them.  And, as the other members sold their shares in the company, he has every right to use the name.  No, it's not the same band, but it's a case of seeing the glass as half-full or as half-empty.  I'm grateful for what we have today, and am adequately impressed with the current personnel.  I guess some people just love to hear themselves piss and moan, but I prefer to seek the silver lining.  I'm looking forward to the future, rather than dwelling on the past.  Life is for the living!

Peace - Z.

In all the 'new vs old' palimpsests which have passed for Digests recently,
I can't recall anyone echoing my own feelings on the subject. Namely, that
the material is more important than the line-up. I'm more than happy to see
this band, for all its blemishes, perform the sort of set list they did a
couple of years back; at the same time, I wouldn't go out of my way to see
the original four perform the tour just ended. That's what I find most
dispiriting about the current scenario, that as a nakedly commercial venture
there is no room for an adventurous selection of material. And if one
assumes that Level 42 in whatever form is unlikely to trouble chart
compilers of the future, that list of must-plays-to-fill-larger-venues is
never, ever going to change.

I see they're back at the Apollo November 19. Are there really enough people
to fill it again this year without there being something new on offer? And
since it's a Wednesday can I assume that if there's a match on, all the
foreign visitors will be at the Kassam on the previous evening for some of
what makes Oxford famous?

He's bang on you know. King may have been the defining sound of Level 42,
but he wasn't the defining creative spark. There's quite a body of evidence
to suggest that Phil Gould filled that role, and Wally Badarou to a slightly
lesser extent.

I was listening to a bit of Doobie Brothers earlier. Now there's a band
which benefitted HUGELY from a change in lead singer, bringing with him
songwriting craft which had been distinctly lacking before his arrival. So,
eschewing mention of Level 42 – let me spell that out to those afraid of
words of more than one syllable, YOU CAN'T PICK LEVEL 42 – who would people
nominate as the bands to have gained or lost most creatively or commercially
from a change in line-up?
