| >On Weave Your Spell and Bitter Moon, it says 'director >unknown' and I was curious as to why that is ... >anyone know? Mike, you know I love ya, but I gotta say it.... 'because we couldn't find out who the directors were'. I've been doing a lot of scrolling on here lately.... As for the reunion - it's as kosher as one of those kosher meals you could get on an aeroplane if you wanted one. Off the list; vegetarian, vegan, celiac, halal, kosher, nut allergy. 'My father ran away to see, he way running to be free, I know the feeling, I only wish he was there for me' - Phil Gould is a genius, man even the lyrics in the demos are mind-blowing, the man leaves a slimy trail of genius wherever he goes - a bit like a snail, but far less distressed by slug pellets. I want to meet him and tell him that when I die and meet the big man in the sky and he asks me to name who I think is the single person who had the biggest most positive influence on my life outside my immediates - I'll say Phillip Gould. This is still the Level 42 Digest isn't it? Good - I thought it had changed hands to the Steely Dan Digest - which would have been very sad - as I can't stand them! Sorry, I tried to listen & enjoy Steely Dan - far too boring and soul-less for me! I stick to Level 42 thank you! Not opposed about posting information on other groups though - but sorry this group just does not do it for me - I'd rather listen to the best of Dolly Parton to be honest! MIKEY PS: Funny how the prices on Ebay have increased and NO comment from LOZ? Where is your criticism now? Thought so! Thanks Sean "Louie" White for pointing that out even though you are a right tosser! | ||

Yeah, but given that SD typically take a year or more to record an album, that would be a lot of expensive commuting, particularly for Business Class. For one thing, the Digest pin I gave Mark in Ryde is still prominently displayed on his guitar strap (you can even see it on the cover). > Can I play it in Australia? I believe it's availabe in both PAL and NTSC formats--pick the one that's right for you. Peace - Z. | ||

| Sorry for the protacted silence, I've been busy floating around in the in the vacuum which constitutes my meaningless, soulless life. Before we start, let's just clear up one issue which has clearly been causing unnatural fascination lately: since child number 4 turned up in February, I am under strict instructions to keep the trousers on at all times. As for Anthony Kay/Kay Anthony, I think we could all do with being a little more sensitive towards those amongst us coming to terms with a sexual identity crisis. Plus I struggle to get too upset at being told I have an empty life by a viewer of Big Brother. Anyway, a handful of nuggets which need a response. >3. Ding, Dan, Don >From: Colin Gupta <thegoop @ sympatico.ca> > >It seemed to me when Andrew made the Neville Chamberlain remark, he was >suggesting none of what Don had said was sustainable. No, I just said he was misguided. But then we’ve known that for years. >Regardless, I don't think so, but perhaps my comments were also misguided. Only the one where you suggested I fall prey to knee-jerk defensiveness. But given the cornucopia of erroneous character summations sprayed my way recently, that is frankly the work of a novice. >Though, how is Aja vague and self indulgent (sorry, I realize you've >argued this point extensively)? Lyrically? I'm not clear on what you mean. >Do you not find the sounds to be timeless, evoking, unparalleled and >absolutely pleasant in every way? I like The music in Deacon blues, >especially the sax, but in particular I admire the lyrics. Without wishing to expound in too much detail (known in some parts as ‘ranting’), both are songs which allow my mind to wander. Much of the oeuvre of Steely Dan is significantly more compulsive. >Not all of us have the resources to see the band these days, so forgive me >if I have difficulty in taking the "gig" posts to heart. Perhaps if there >was a little more description about the gig itself instead of the social >aspects You mean the knowledge that gigs are attended by loads of true fans who have obviously been to loads of gigs before (lawyers please note, that’s a paraphrase and not a quote) doesn’t leave you agape with fascination? Shame on you, you charlatan fan. >2. Eric Hansen, Sir >From: Pete Willis <peteburywillis @ hotmail.com> > >I enjoyed the posting today highlighting the fact that AG prefers the more >'poppier' Steely Dan albums. I’m Mr Steely Dan Lite. >That is interesting considering usual slaughtering he gives to most other >things, 'poppy'. Great ammo for any future postings where he slams the >next pop group!! As one of maybe two people here who can proudly name all six members of Haircut 100, I’m hardly pop music’s nemesis. I just call it the way I see it, just like everybody else. >4. More Dan...scroll if you can't take it >From: DonZipf @ aol.com <DonZipf @ aol.com> > >I was just citing Barney as an example, mostly for the opening track on Two >Against Nature, "Gaslighting Abbie", which boasts wicked bass chops. >That's the sort of thing that I finding sorely lacking in Everything Must >Go. But that’s also a great example of why I prefer EMG. Yes Gaslighting Abbie has a great bass line, but musically that’s the most interesting aspect of the song. At least half a dozen songs on EMG are more complete and satisfying compositions. I think maybe Don just likes to stand really close to the painting so he can examine the brushwork, whereas I’d sooner see the whole picture. >For some reason, the boys decided to make this album extra-clean and >studio-sterile. Curiouser and curiouser, since I find the new one a much more warm and inviting listen than 2vN. Somebody put on the theme tune from Diff’rent Strokes. >5. der Sonntag >From: jt <jtraci @ yahoo.com> > >1) I’m not sure how Eric came to my “defence”, as I have merely a balcony and no yard. (Yes, it’s low to knock ones spelling, and surely I run afoul on occasion, but when one is _really_ trying to flex some miniscule muscles, one should _really_ try to get their poop together, no?) Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. I think that since Pete is English, and until American cultural imperialism forces a change the language we’re writing is called English, he’s probably within his rights to spell defence the way the English do. Wouldn’t you say? AG PS Sharmin, please pass on to Gary Husband my admiration for the dignified manner in which he has once again conducted himself. _________________________________________________________________ Sign-up for a FREE BT Broadband connection today! http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/btbroadband | ||

| Just a few words on some things that have come up over the last few posts to to bore the lot of you. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter came up a few days ago. I recently saw him, much to my disbelief, on the late evening news discussing terrorism and the war. He is now employed by our Department of Defense as an adviser to the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization and a bio-terrorism expert as well. Wow! I'm guessing some of you may have known this but it was news to me. Cross dressing. What can I say on this subject except that maybe we could get together and act out some of our favorite Monty Python sketches. Earth Wind & Fire. Just ordered the new CD "The Promise" as well as "Live in Rio." Will review if anyone desires. On to Level 42. I just received my "Greatest Hits Live" cd Saturday. It looks to me like "Live at Reading" under different cover. It does include RITF and LIL thrown in at the end. It's on the Superior label made in Germany. Haven't opened it yet. I have not noticed any talk about Gary's posting via Sharmin last week. I think we all believed he would feel this way. I would. I have thoroughly enjoyed downloading MP3's from level42info.com and thedanishway.dk of some of the terrific concerts from the early 80's. These guys were nothing short of unbelievable live. I suffer great internal torment from never having seen them live. I'm in group therapy. It's a Forty-two step program. Big thanks to Bjorn, Rob & Norm. Please, please keep up the great work.
