| Fantastic night last night. Right from the start Mark and the boys blasted the hall away with hit after hit. They all seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, as were we, and the time passed way too quickly. Can't believe it's over again, still, roll on next year when surely they gotta be touring again! | Ah! The power of modern mail-merge solutions. My money says there'd be no need if it was a King\Lindup\Gould\Gould tour...Hmmm...been here before haven't we? thedrumdoctor | ||

| It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have today accepted Anthony Kay's resignation from the post of Running Gag in my messages to the Digest. Although only in the post for a brief time, Anthony made many significant contributions to my material, continuing the fine tradition of Laura Kelly and Kurtis Kegley. He will be sadly missed. Applications for the position of Running Gag are now being taken. Please submit a brief cv with covering letter explaining why you would be appropriate for the role. It is not imperative that your surname begin with the letter K. | Was there even an official release of THE EARLY TAPES in the U.S.? Back when the Polydor reissues came out in 1986, I searched high and low for a copy of this album. Those of you who shopped in chain record stores may even remember a huge encyclopedia size book called a Phonolog that you could look up album, song, and artist information in, and every one I saw had an entry for EARLY TAPES complete with label, catalog number and track listing. But I never saw it- on LP, cassette, or CD- anywhere. While visiting a friend in college, one of his roommates (another L42 fan) has gotten a friend in the UK to record the album on tape for him, and he was kind enough to let me have it. But it wasn't until around 1991 when I finally found a place (Audiophile Imports) that was stocking the album on CD (I bought GUARANTEED at the same time as I recall). I had always wondered whether or not there was some legal entanglement preventing those particular songs being released in the U.S. Adding fuel to this was the fact that the CD version of A PHYSICAL PRESENCE, excludes (as you all know) the two tracks from EARLY TAPES (Mr. Pink, 88). Sure, the CD said it was to "facilitate a single compact disc", but being the suspicious type I was (and sometimes still am), I had to wonder. Come to think of it, I've never seen the original UK CD version of APP. Was it a single disc release as well?
