Just read this review of the first album on All Music Guide
(www.allmusic.com):

The album was produced by label owner Andy Sojka. Highlights include "Love
Meeting Love," "Wings of Love," "Love Games," "Turn It On," and "Starchild."

That's it. Fantastic. Just for good measure the correct tracklist is
immediately below.

Incidentally, a nod of appreciation to Pete Willis for a write-up of his gig
which eschewed the standard "the guys were great, atmosphere was great, set
list was great, what a great bunch of mad guys we all are too!" review and
went some way towards trying to explain WHY it was such an enjoyable night
for him.

>Andrew, I've known for some time your love for Haircut 100. Reading your
>rekindled passion for the L42 album for some reason made me wonder why you
>like Haircut 100 so. That's all.

OK, well, since you asked. Purists look away now, after noticing that HE
ASKED.

Like most people (in this country at least), my first hearing of Haircut 100
was Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl), which together with Chant No.1 and
Poison Arrow formed a triumvirate of perfect early 80s pop singles. It
breezed into a chart increasingly laden down with a dismal assortment of new
wave hangers-on and talentless two finger synth merchants, busily employing
their meagre talent to undo the advancement of that instrument which (in
very different ways) Kraftwerk and Stevie Wonder had been nudging forward
for a decade. The album Pelican West is almost entirely devoid of keyboards
at a time when they were de rigueur for most throwaway pop. Instead we have
Graham Jones' trademark 'Billy Whizz' chord work (an utterly distinctive
piece of rhythm guitar), and Les Nemes' understated bass work. The trite
love song may have been Haircut 100's stock in trade - take Snow Girl and
Surprise Me Again for two pieces which are as joyfully romantic musically as
they are lyrically - but don't be fooled that it's all they could do.
Haircut 100 also had a languidly funky edge which distinguished them from
every other pop band at the time. Love's Got Me In Triangles is a good
example, or particularly Calling Captain Autumn, which when pared down to
bass, guitar and drums has an effortless groove worthy of Chic. The lyrics
echo the euphoria of the music, full of escapist images of oceans, seasons,
transport, a dreamy journey beyond the dismal horizons offered to a 14 year
old at an all boys school in the south Midlands.

Haircut 100 were a wonderfully refreshing dose of jangly, shiny froth, free
of specious lyrical diatribes or embarrassing faux rebellion, and twenty
years on I find Pelican West every bit as effective a piece of fantasy as I
did then. For a long time I assumed I was alone, but then I bought Colin
Larkin's excellent All-Time Top 1000 albums almanac, wherein it sits at No
41 in his 50 Long Forgotten Gems, nestling between Joe Walsh and Spooky
Tooth.

Ah, just like the good old days, the return of the YCB mention. I've only
ever heard the 4 track promo which was sent out right at the start, and
without wanting to be unkind is it safe to assume they've improved since
then?

Ah, you raise an interesting point. Oh no my mistake, you don't.
