'Level 42 Digest is a daily news email with discussion of the music, fans, concerts, recordings and items for sale of the British pop band Level 42, Mark King, Mike Lindup, Boon Gould and Phil Gould.'

This phrase seems all the more apt now - but where does it come from?? It seems to only appear on the digest search engine, but I figure it must have been our catch line at some stage in the past?

Anyway, I'm basically speechless about the whole reformation thing. When the digest was conceived we had MK, ML & PG working together and those were exciting times, but to think of how we've turned over every stone in our discussions about the legacy of those guys and now - 15 years after they were last all together and 9 years since their last issue of note, we will have a hatful of up to date new tracks. Let's hope at least some of Phil's lyrics pour over those old times (as he's wont to do). Also, lets hope this is the start of a clutch of albums!

2.  1993, 2003, so what's new? :)
From: Elson Trinidad <elson @ westworld.com>

Hi all -

Some of you might know me from the distant past as one of the charter
members of the initial incarnation of the L42 list...I recently got in
touch with Sir Eric Hansen and I was compelled to make my re-entry here. I
did hear of vague news of L42's reunion a while back but now it's
official...wow, I wasn't this excited since I first heard about "Forever
Now" on this list about 10 years ago...

Speaking of FN, I listened to the whole thing after several years...I'm a
singer/songwriter/musician and was listening to some my old material
recently. Turns out one of my most prolific periods was 1994, and so I dug
out some of my favorite CDs from that period -- the most influential being
FN, The Brand New Heavies' "Brother Sister," Jamiroquai's "Return of the
Space Cowboy" and The Solsonics' "Jazz in the Present Tense" (okay does
that explain I was a total acid-jazz freak in the mid '90s?)

Anyway right now I do dance music/electronica under the name e:trinity ( my
website is www.e-trinity.org ). But I'm also doing some other stuff right
now as well. Anyway just here to say hi to the old gang and look forward to
more L42 moments...

Take Care of Yourself,
Elson

Well, I've never heard it all before but I am nevertheless in sympathy with
the above upper case blare. A lifetime of pessimism hasn't let me down yet.
The one thing I don't understand is how it works that you have one band
writing in the studio, and an almost entirely different one out touring. Is
there any precedent for that bizarre proposal? I have to say if it does
proceed down those lines, the touring band will seem very much the
Worthington Cup team selection. (Those of you unable to decipher that
analogy due to either not being English, or being English but not liking
football - better luck next life.)

>Why cant you have your own personality instead of trying to copy AG.

I have to say, I take some exception to this. JT's postings, whatever their
humorous intent, often come with a demagogue sneer which I abandoned as a
comedic device years ago. Which is a shame, because I think he's wasting a
lot of energy which could be spent being witty and provocative on simply
getting people's backs up. Still, each to their own.

Incidentally Keith, why not try experimenting with apostrophes? You might
enjoy them. Maybe Winston can get you a job lot from the place he gets those
random capital letters.

Oh right, like he hasn't watched the cream pouring scene over and over and
over... ahem, just me then.

My, my, my. Just back from vacation and trying to catch up and there
is actually a ton of NEWS!

For anyone who has the new Collection DVD-- is this concert footage
(new? old?) or videos (which I have never seen)? What's on the CD?

BTW, as a result of gifts from relatives, I now find myself the owner
of two copies of "Abba: The Definitive Collection" (Region 0 NTSC
DVD). If anyone wants one, unopened, for US$16 plus postage (or
suitable trade), speak now or forever hold your peace-- this weekend
it goes up on half.com.

I think its realy good that the band are getting back to-gether! i wonder
if the old players in the band still know how to make music though, i mean,
theyve been out of it for years and the last albumms they made were the
best ever oh well i reckon it will be good for them to do something for a
change!!!

Keith wrote>>>RE- JT and any other muppet
Muppet...a make beleive character made of felt with some ones hand shoved up its ****...whos the muppet sorry? but I am very very protective of Jay! oh and Terry the Sticksman to ;)

>You make me laugh so much thank you.
>Keep it up please.
>Try to be more like me and the true Level fans, then you wont seem so bitter
>twisted and foolish.
Hang on...i will tell you about te TRUE fan..why is if theres nothing going down, you all moan, and if there is, you get excited and then moan and then get excited again for a reason nothing more but an announcement! Bitter, I dont think thats the case here but twisted, well look at yourself first and see why your all so excited and what for nothing but a annoucement, as good as it is for you, but nothing concrete has warrented an response of ecstasy like you show!...IMHO as always.

>I suppose you have to do something now youve been proved wrong and Mark isnt
>the bad guy you want him to be.
'Proved wrong, MK nots a bad guy after all'...dont make me laugh!!! I kept quiet about alot of stuff that maybe most arnt privvy to but remember this, when MK yes MK, DECIDED to do a album with this so calledplan he has cooking, did he think of the members that are currently touring with him and did they have any knowledge of this 'partnership of minds' before it was announced to the TRUE fans, but alas, little do you know what sort of NICE GUY MK is until you know whats happened to the guys like Gary and Lyndon and also crossed him like many have done! as for confusingfactor of the the new fans that hes made, well thats a different story but i do know tears Will be shed and fights had before a new album is due...is this what you want, i dont and certainly any decent person who calls their self a fans doesnt...be very alert as to what to expect..i think the rabbit hole isnt that deep and someone soon is going to find out that making Money is one thing, but KEPPING hold of friends is another and one way i know this a game of pain and humiliation that if i am honest here, Mark should not be playing for the sake of friendships! IMHO as always. :)

>Why cant you have your own personality instead of trying to copy AG!

One thing Jay doesnt have and that is to copy AG...they are both strong minded and eliquant when posting unlike you who obviously took offennce and came out rareing, they normally dont but have arguements and debating on their side...do you? debatable!

>Now all we need is a great album from Level 42 and all you moaners will be
>put into hiding for good.
calm down here...Moaners...all i have heard is moaning from the so called true fans, that have moaned about the line up, about the album, which t-shirt will be out next for dam years...i think you may be very surprised as to whats going to happen and be on guard because you will be moaning when you dont see what you want!..remember i said that...

>As for the investment tip you wanted try Pace Micro, You will find im right
on that aswell.
Hmmmmmm

All i have to say is be cautious until you see tha album and dont expect them to get it right the first time because in this buisness, not many bands that think they can cut it again can so moaning hats on Folks...i see a hell of a lot coming this way...
lets stay calm and collected on this...remember, Patient is a verture that many dont have yet do want!
