OK, now that the ultimate tour has been announced for this autumn (or "fall"
for you guys stateside), we have now set a date for this years Britfest.
This years Britfest will be at The Collingwood Suite, Gosling Sports Park,
Stanborough Road, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England on the 23rd
November 2003 (the day after the Hammersmith Apollo show).

The venue is approx 25 mins on the train north from Kings Cross station and
has good road access from the A1(M) and M25. I shall post more details of
how to get to the venue (by car & rail), nearby overnight accomodation and
full details of the days events in the not so distant future.
For those of you who have never been to a Britfest or don't know what a
Britfest is then let me explain. A Britfest is an annual (well it's been
held every year for the past 5/6 years) event that brings fans of Level 42
together under one roof. The day consists of many events laid on to
entertain and get people involved.
This year we are planning the following:
1) Level 42 collection corner (ibcluding the 'Fait Accompli' and 'Live at
Wembley' flying coats) with many other rare and amazing items you might not
have known existed!
2) Video room
3) Live tribute bands
4) Jam session for all you budding level musicians
5) Charity auction for Children Say
6) Level 42 memorabilia sale
7) Some surprises....... (to be announced later in the year)
8) Bar and food
9) Ex Mark King basses on display
As we have to pay for the venue we will have to charge an admission which
will be the same as every other year at £10 with proceeds from the day going
to the Children Say charity which as you all know was Level 42's official
charity.
At this stage, we just need to know how many people are coming along so
please email Lisa "Mrs Pink" Harding to let her know at
lisa.harding @ ntlworld.com so that we get some idea as to the numbers
expected. We really want this years event to be the biggest ever held and
that can only be done by you guys turning up and participating.
Thanks,
Glyn Willett.

Wow guys! good response to my question. My top 'other bands' are Steely Dan , All Donald Fagen Solo, Pat Metheny(Group in particular), Police, China Crisis and as well as Rush(still). Neil Peart years back had some complimentary comments on Phil Gould as well as China Crisis' late drummer.
Also still like E,W&F after all these years and they link nicely to L42.
I like DMB more then the Dead as I prefer their song writing and drumming.

I think he's just lost interest.  Lump him in with past alums like Tucker Haas, Dan Lloyd,
Elson Trinidad, Vince Mora, and Laz Nibble.

Don't forget Dirkies!!!

I'm still around, been getting the new digest, but not reading it much.
It's not that I've lost interest, just very busy with projects. But every
once in awhile, I go through a big burst of reading and catch up with
things. I just happened to look at Wednesday's digest when it came in. :D

I bought a Jamiroqui album as a result of a recommendation on this
digest, and love it. Eventually I will get around to trying out
Incognito.

Others that come to mind:
o Midge Ure is clearly one of my favorites (with M. King playing on
some songs).
o Tears for Fears (I have Mr. Orzibal's latest on order).
o Propaganda (first album, a must buy).
o a-Ha (especially starting after the first few albums, though I
have not heard the two latest as the casual looking I have done has
only turned them up as incredibly priced imports and I have not yet
looked into buying direct from overseas after a certain experience
that has colored that tactic a bit...)
o Pat Metheny (middle career stuff especially-- also worth seeing live).
o Dead Can Dance (Into the Labyrinth is a good start).
o Sophie B. Hawkins (my 4 year old's favorite-- in edited form. The
one year old I am starting by introducing Peter Gabriel's Up' tracks
2 & 3).
o James Newton Howard (The Sheffield Labs recording of James Newton
Howard & Friends is a true find).
o Milla
o Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (when the mood strikes)
o Laurie Anderson (selected-- a MUST see if performing nearby).
o A whole lot more I could add if I looked through my disks...

Hello everyone !

I am new to Level 42 Digest and can anyone tell me, please, how I can get a copy of the Dreams and Visions VCD since the email address on the "Forever Level 42" site does not do it.
I live in central London, UK and I would be grateful to anyone who can help me on how to obtain a copy. Thank you Level fans.

I am a huge Steely Dan fan. My aunt introduced me to them when I was very young. I'm convinced that I'm the only 9 year old that knew all the words to "Deacon Blues". If I only knew was I was singing... :)

I'm sure our posters in the states know that Steely Dan has a new album and tour this summer. I can't wait.

I too have an eclectic taste. Besides L42, I listen to a lot of house, jazz, classic rock, and hip hop. I do believe that someone mentioned Naked Music awhile back-I love the entire label and I was just listening to Carte Blanche 3 on the drive home from the job today.

I love Omar (a terrific British soul singer), but his last album left me kind of flat.  Does anyone know if he's doing anything new? He's hard to find here in the States.

Back on the L42 topic, I tried to contact someone here for the Dreams and Visions disc, but their email was not working. Is there anyone in the states making copies? Please contact me!

Yeah, which is probably why your list of some of the
other 'old schoolers' lost interest. Back then we had
the re-joining (kinda) of Phil and we didn't know that
(again) that band would shortly come crashing to a
death. Now we have a pseudo resurrected corpse
hobbling about, once named "groupo" now proclaiming to
be Lazerus. All that there is to talk about is 'wow,
another live version, note for note, of [insert
flogged to death tune]'.
But you alpha-points are good, too. As for A) in which
some people may have become comfortable with the
internet, this may be true, or it could be just some
of the folks have aged a bit, gained experience,
hopefully gained a bit more insight into other musical
areas, and basically have just become more aware when
nonsense is being pulled off in front of them. B)
"different times", I don't know if I buy so much,
although it may be an affect for some. C) "natives
restless" is probably the big one, there seems to be a
few parties, some with membership in a few of them; as
I said in A), some have a better grasp on perspective
and can judge this for, pretty much, what it is; the
adjective-fans that will except anything, even the up
and coming collaboration with Puff diddy and Pharell
(with MK playing banjo) because it is MK/L42,
therefore it is _The Best_; then there is the optimist
(synonym for disillusioned) that still think that this
band, after working together, with null results, for
5+ years will make some nifty album.

JerryRehn @ aol.com
> Toto (yes, I said Toto -
> especially since the addition of Simon Phillips on

This still makes me weep, a sheer brilliant drummer
working with...them. When he took the gig I was hoping
for a short lived pay-day type gig (Terry Bozzio in
The Knack, anyone?), but at least he has continued
with a few of his side projects within that time, too.

> But in my opinion, NO band
> in the world EVER needs two drummers.

I agree, what King Crimson did with the double-trio
thing was...almost interesting. Having Pat
Mael-something muck about in time so that Bruford
could screw with meter was...kinda cool, but Bruford
is so amazing that he can muck about and keep the time
(with various shifts), so I wasn't too keen on it.
Thankfully BB got tired of it and reunited Earthworks
(among other projects) (it’s truly amazing, and
inspiring how much some of these guys work (‘play’)
and try new things, Mr. King: take note!)

> The main
> difference for me is that the Dead and their
> followers are primarily washed up drug...

Yeah, I can't stand (or sit) TGDead, it seems more of
a clique thing- kinda like some here think that a L42
concert is a social event, therefore enhancing the
music, etc, so it's not just a gig. “I don’t care what
they play, as long as AG is buying the beer”, etc.

>The Dead are probably
> one of the most overrated groups in the history of
> music.

Yes, I agree, right up there with The Beatles.

 DonZipf @ aol.com

Excellent, excellent choice!!

Hi All,
Heard a few people asking when the next Trash installment would as it is well overdue... Is there ever any likelyhood that this will happen now that Level42 has been resurrected? After all, Mark could use a lot of this material (which according to the original Trash was partly written for L42 anyway) in his new line up.

Best wishes,

Ian.
