For Colin - Neal Peart actually was not on Rush's very first album. I
think the drummer's name was John Rutsey. After that, it was all
Neal.
For Dan - I think it's time to take this elsewhere. I am about ready
to puke when I see my inbox cluttered up with all of your garbage and
abuse. When writing emails, I always use the rule of thumb: don't ever write something that you wouldn't say to someone's face. Where do you fit in?
Just wondering if your keyboard has more balls than you do. Pretty low
statement saying Neal Peart is a better drummer to Gary. First of all, it's
totally subjective. Second, it untrue (I like Neal's playing for what it is, but
can he play Jazz? Do you know what Jazz is?). Third, if Neal is a fan of Gary,
and I am sure he is, it means he, unlike you, appreciates musical value in many
many areas outside of his own. It has nothing to do with technical
skill. Time to think outside of the box, Dan. Lastly..why don't you
just start talking about Gary's mother? What you said was the equivalent.
For Gary - I am a fellow drummer from the Boston area and I do have the
pleasure from time to time playing with a mutual friend or ours, Steve
Hunt. Both you and he are good people. Keep doing what you do - it
is very much appreciated (Dan should really see you with Holdsworth before
making any further judgments, but something tells me he still wouldn't get
it).
For the Digest - Hmmmm, wonder why membership has been dropping? That
"Unsubscribe" button is VERY tempting.
Take care everyone. Life is too short.

I've always wondered what the reason could be.... Personally, I am not interested in a band that only panders to the audience in the creation of its material. True artists follow their own muses, whether or not the fans like it. In fact, that's one of the things I like best about MK and the twisted path that Level 42 took in its career. If they had pandered to fans wishes, they would have only churned out clone after clone of True Colours or Standing In The Light, God help us! Z. | ||

Hiy'all
Been a while since I posted, used to do it all the time on the
old digest!!! Lots has happened to myself since then, the main thing being that
I now live on the Isle of Wight!!!! This isn't a MK or L42 thing, I've always
love the island and now I'm here!!!!
Anyway, to the main point, earlier today, (Saturday 29th
March) Mark was on Isle of Wight Radio. It was a pre recorded interview, and was
quite interesting. I recorded the interview on tape, and if those at Level42.com
(sorry guys, can't remember ya names) would like a copy to put on the web site,
they can e-mail me at daveyweb @ yahoo.com, and we can arrange
something.
Anyway, must fly!!!
Remember, drum stop very bad, very bad!!!

To all the bloody naysayers out
there who have nothing better to do than slag off
band members because they are
not an original band member or in theor 'opinion' not
up to the job of carrying on
the Level 42 name,
Keep your naty vindictive
comments to yourselves.
As DOn quite rightly said -
can't you see what you have done?
your piss poor rantings like
spoiled children who have had their sweets taken away
will only spoil it for the rest
of us who just want to hear goodm usic regardless of what incarnation of the
band
we happen to prefer and which
musicians.
Do us all a favour and shut the
hell up - you are pissing more people off than you realise and are vastly
against the majority.
Aint you heard of being
constructive - maybe then people would not think that you are just rambling
bloody lunatics.
Christ - what happened to this
community??????????????

| For Christ sakes, the bullshit flying around this digest over the whole old/new 42 line-up is getting a bit thick for my liking. Some of it even looks as though it might stick. For the sake of fair-play, I'll forget I lost interest in the band after the Goulds left and try and serve up some Devils Advocate... If you work in the entertainment industry as a performer, yes, you do offer yourself up for ritual sacrifice at the hands of the punters who pay money to see\hear your work. If you do a bad gig or release a sub-standard album, then you will get a bit of a kicking from the music press, that's the way the machine works and if you can't stand the heat, you get out of the kitchen. However, the heat in the kitchen shouldn't really extend to include personal insults or attempts to pour blame on individual hired-hands for stepping in to fulfil a position left vacant by someone else who no longer has the desire to do it. Quite simply, it is unreasonable to keep targeting Gary Husband for everything that is "wrong" with any group of musicians that chose to play music together under the collective name of Level 42, post 1987. For myself and quite a lot of people, something died in Level 42 when the Goulds departed. But there was no law passed saying that the remaining members couldn't continue making music together with new people. Polydor didn't turn around and say, "that's it lads, shows over, we'll cease the investment here...", did they? No... So they left old fans like me behind, but equally took new ones with them. On their journey, they happened to enlist the services of one, Mr Gary Husband - shit-hot drummer, shit-hot pianist, with a musical credit list longer than John Holmes' cock! For F***s sake chaps, respect is due. Furthermore, I have read enough stuff in interviews clearly stating that there is a mutual respect between Gould and Husband regarding each others playing and achievements in music. If that comes as a disappointment to some of you who would like to continue this pointless comparisson\slagging match, well I'm now going to have to burst your bubble even further. What you will find, right throughout the globe, is that there has always been a special bond between drummers, going right back to the days of early jazz. Those famous "drum battles" that used to happen between the likes of Chick Webb and Gene Krupa, weren't done to humiliate each other. It was a bit of fun and drummers were inspired and learnt from each other. That's why, the minute anyone starts publicly victimising a great player such as Gary Husband, you will find drummers swiftly closing ranks. It really is a BIG mutual-respect thing. You only have to check out what the big names say in interviews in drum mags world-wide. Finally, here's a quick drum lesson for everyone. A drummers role in any musical situation is to simply, make time live and breathe. If you can't fulfil that simple task, then you don't get the gig. Both Phil Gould and Gary Husband, make time live and breathe - fact. Get a grip and stop seeing Mark King & Co. as some sort of exercise about winning or losing some imaginary battle. Playing music isn't about winning or losing anything, it's about a total experience between players and listeners. A gig is simply a moment in time. The 90 minutes or whatever passes on stage, then it's a piece of history - in the past. Then you move on. Be thankful that in this day and age of 'Pop Idol' when the music industry is on a seriously downward spiral, you can still go out and have the opportunity to see great musicians like Gary and Mark playing together on stage. Slagging them off in forums like this isn't going to really inspire them to want to come out, especially if they don't need to do it in the first place. And I'll bet you if Phil Gould could read all this anti-Gary stuff, he'd feel sick to his f***ing guts! 'Nuff said from me. thedrumdoctor | ||
