Chris..the decision to edit the WM album was done by the record company, who

Saw this LP as way to break the boys in the states. In particular it was that guy

Frank in marketing. Who actually picked the tracks is beyond me, but rumours

Point to Sally…picking The Chant, a song that wasn’t a hit in the UK still bothers

Her.  ;-)

I don’t think both cd’s were released in the US however, I think you could get

The UK version as an import, but I don’t think it was offocialy released here.

I never did by the US version. And this happens all the time with companies.

The try to maximize and artists exposure in the states. I recall them doing it

With Robbie William…they combined his first 2 UK albums, and released it

Here, and the result was…you guess it, a combination BOMB!.

I saw a few of the Winwood/L42 gigs, and recorded the Madison Square Garden

Gig if u are interested.

I imagine that you feel that way mostly because the US version is the one you became familiar with first, so it's burned into your brain.  Too bad there isn't a way to erase bad brain patterns like that.  :o)

I think Polydor blew it, mucking with the track list and substituting the True Colours songs.  To my ears, True Colours and World Machine are such stylistically disparate works, the transplanted tracks sound out-of-place.  The original UK version of World Machine, to me, is one of the great pop albums of all time, absolutely perfect as it is.  Of course, I must admit that I (by stroke of luck) bought the UK version first, so it's the one that got burned-in.

6.  Or is he just another slapper?

I'm just wondering,

If any of you ever heard of Primus, and the bassist Les Claypool, in my opinion he's quite a slapper himself. I just got back to listening to one of their songs "Tommy The Cat" and it displayed an uncanny yet impressive bassline, for a funk rock-ish tune, that is. He does sing and play at the same time, although he sings more comically and sometimes offbeat. We often associate such singing and playing talent with our beloved bass god Mark King. But singing offbeat and incoherently, maybe that takes a bit of a screw loose, and slapping on a six string at that. So does anyone here think that he fits in our list of favorite bass players, or is he just another doofus we could all care less about?

Regards,
Mizi
