Hi y'all,

Juat thought I'd contribute to the 'same old hits' debate!!! Now, I wouldn't say I'm a die hard fan, afterall, I am unable to go to see the guys this time round, and I would normally only go to just the one gig per tour!!!! (I know a few of the die hards go to quite a few of the gigs)!!!! But this debate is dragging on a bit and I wanted to have my say before it ended!!
Now, I don't want to have a go at anyone on either side of the fence, and to be honest, I can understand where some of you are coming from. Ok so the band play the same hits, big deal! Afterall, it is the Ultimate Tour, and lets be honest, would anyone really go if the set list was all the B sides and tracks we'd never heard before??? (OK OK, perhaps a few of you would!!!) SO whats my point in all this, well to be honest, I don't really know! Except to say that, there's probably one person who might get hurt in all this and that is probably Mark himself. Let's face it back in 1994 when Mark decided enough was enough, I was a bit gutted that I'd never get to hear my favourite tunes played live again!!! But then out of the blue, Mark decided to re-emerge and tour again WITHOUT the financial backing of a major record label, probably funding the tours himself!!! OK he's got the money to do it, you might say, but DID he really have to do it??? No, he could have led a quiet life over here on the IOW and we'd have just had our record and CD's to listen to. Luckily though, he's brought back Level 42 for us, and I thank him for that, and while it would be great for new material, the old ones are the best, isn't that what they say?????
MY point in all this, I dunno, I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, even opinions that go on a bit!! I suppose I'm just trying to say that we should be grateful that Mark decided to 'do it all again' and not make him quit for good!!!!
Anyway, I just wanted my say, and that was it!!!

Oh, and keep the digest going too!!! Prefer it more to the web digest anyday!!

Cheers

Dave Webster

P.S. Drum stop very bad, very bad

For the rabid Rush fans among you, you already know this.  For the lesser fans who may not, Rush is releasing their first DVD this month.  Live in Rio or something.

Also, has anyone successfully set up a metronome to accurately keep time to any of their songs?

Mr. Pom
>I should've remembered from experience that it does
>no good to argue with a
>Christian.

Come on now, Mike, “argue” for what? Pete wants to be
“brave” (a fantastic abuse of the word) and admit he’s
part of only the largest congregation of worshiping
around, believe in fairy tales (mostly swiped from
other forms of worship) but deny grade-school basic
(very basic) sciences, not too mention the inability
to pick up on the blunt irony of religious
persecution, while also (segue into L42) believing
there is personal, distinct sincerity behind bloody
form letters –let him.

I agree that his post was a hop, skip and a jump over
the top (anything would probably be acceptable here
given the space of a few lines, but near-incoherent
riffs _supposedly_ making a point behind a jestfully
proposed question is obtuse and self-serving), but you
may want to evaluate to your angle here; you’re not
too far off from PW’s fantastically off-the-mark (if
not just pre-mature, in your case) remark that you
are, essentially, also preaching.
Not too mention PW has clearly proven in the past he
has no idea how to “debate”.

>Eric, if you want to throw me off the Digest, go
>right ahead.

Eric is a stand-up guy. While he gives the nod to PW
for this (although being short of memory in thinking
his political-ness didn’t make a few comments –and one
would have to be a weenie to get bent at our Web-Guru,
anyway (which ironically enough our
Martyr-in-Residence did once, coincidently, about me
[nifty how this stuff comes full-circle!])…I’m sure he
allows you and I our retorts.

Next to take the stand…do we have any homosexuals here
that would like to take the microphone? Aside from
being damned by PW & Company, you not only have to
make your declaration, you must then give some
descriptive “facts” as to how this is, no doubt,
Supreme love. Heroine abusers? Step on up, describe
the sensation of the marrying of narcotic to blood.

[for those that need help with reading, this is in no
way a “slagging” of homosexuals or drug abusers. 1) I
could be any of the above (hell, I could even be a
christ-ian who simply gets disturbed by blatant
exhibitionism) 2) both of which tie better into music,
which is, um, the reason we are here]

Looking forward to my “nightmare” multiplied by Pi…
j(ay)

And now, the news…

LATEST NEWS -October 3rd 2003

It's been six months since my last update, but I'm
happy to announce that the wait is over.
Conversations with Silence, my first album since Level
42, will be released on the 3rd November 2003. It's
coming out on the Naim Label (NAIMCD073), and will be
available online, direct from Naim (upon release I
will establish a hotlink from this site), as well as
from Amazon.co.uk, and also from selected retail
outlets, and in from specialist HI-Fi retailers.
(For those eagle-eyed to have already seen or
pre-ordered the CD from Amazon, the release has been
moved from the 13th October to 3rd November to enable
more opportunities for press reviews and
pre-publicity).
I will be promoting the music from the CD live over
the next year, and to get it off to a good start, I
will be doing a warm-up gig on Thursday, 9th October
at around 9pm. The venue is Tall Poppy presents, an
open-mic club that runs every thursday at The Goose,
360 Wandsworth Bridge Road, London SW6 2TY. Click here
for more information. To book a table, call +44 (0)20
8408 0777.

I have put brush to canvas for the first time since
Art 'A' Level (circa 1977), in aid of a charity called
"Kith and Kids". Based in North London, they provide
support for families with disabled young-to-young
adults. I was invited to contribute a painting along
with a mixture of artists, celebs, kids and others as
part of a charity auction called "Art4All". The theme
we were given was "Inclusion", and after wracking my
brain, and putting it off till later (a Lindup
speciality), an idea came to me, which I have portryed
on the supplied canvas. It is now hanging, alonside
most of the other entries (a fantastic variety) in the
Stuckism International Gallery, 3 Charlotte Road,
London EC2, until tuesday 7th Oct.,, when it will be
moved down the road to the Prince's Foundation for the
culmination of the auction on the 9th Oct....Yes, if
you wish, you can bid for my painting up to the
evening of the 9th. There is a reserve price of £75
(it's for a good cause!), so if you would like to view
the picture online, and make a bid, click here, click
"latest news", and then "Art4All"

Preparations are also underway for the next Da Lata
album and tour. Their new album, entitled Serious,
will be released on "either 27th Oct. or 3rd Nov.", so
Chris Franck informs me. I am featured on a couple of
tracks, on keyboards, and will be singing and playing
keys in the touring band.
Gigs scheduled so far are:
6th November -Jazz Cafe, London
6th December -Cargo, London
There is talk of a possible showcase in Japan at the
end of November - if it is confirmed, I will let you
know.

Finally, thanks again to all of the good wishes that
you sent Samantha and I on our First anniversary,
which we celebrated in Scotland. I regularly check the
guestbook entries, and although I may not respond to
all the requests, I read them all, and appreciate the
feedback. Video samples...they are well overdue...
Love,
Mike
