Cheers to Murrihyfam @ aol.com! I
couldn't agree with you more! A CD or a performance in the past is a chronicle
of time at that moment. Once the moment has past, you move onto the next
moment. Things will always change. Let's end the debate of old vs.
new members, because it doesn't matter, and enjoy what we have, either by
supporting the current lineup, or by going back into our musical
libraries.

> And, frankly, I don't really expect the new record > to be a band effort, exactly. I expect it to be a > Mark King project Well then, here's an experiment for all to try: take that godamn Harry Potter book of your shelf and replace the dustjacket, say to something spiffy like _Tropic of Cancer_. Give it to your kid. When kid asks where is that wonderful little Harry, look at him/her questionably. Inisist, no matter what, that they are indeed reading Harry Potter, it says so right on the cover, no? > "Level 42", but MK can because he is the one > essential ingredient! The rest of the guys are > interchangeable. After this looong day I'm a little hungry, got some fresh basil pasta waiting for me at home...but I gotta whip up a nice sauce: fresh mushrooms, garlic oil, a tiny bit of hot pepper, fresh basil, some wine.... Oh. Wait a minute...well, tomatoes are the only "essential ingredient"...so the hell with it, I'm just gonna mush some tomatoes and call it a sauce. Wanna join me?? j __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop! http://platinum.yahoo.com | ||

| > be greatful that we have something left.....not nothing at all Prob is some people cannot move on. According to some using the name "level 42" is an outrage. But if Mike, Phil and Boon does not have a prob with mark and the lads using the name - then why should we. -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup | ||

| There have been at least 4-5 various lineups since philip and boon left the original 4-some.Whether it`s on an album or for touring,I thought that Level 42 fans were some of the most diversified fans there could be for 1 band.Would the opinions have been so sharp had Mark used this name a lot sooner(i.e. for the One Man ensemble)? One woman`s view~peace,mo __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? | >But it's the fact that it's Mark that makes it Level 42. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Mark is the one >>essential member of the band. Mike, Phil, & Boon could never get away with calling themselves "Level >>42", but MK can because he is the one essential ingredient! The rest of the guys are interchangeable The is where our opinions fundamentally differ. Is it safe to imply from what you said that you think Level 42 would have head the same amount of success with MK plus any three other members? I think contrary - I don't think Mark would have had any success without the other members - none at all. A case in point - he assume almost total command of Level 42 in 1987. What's the condition he find the band in - one of the top 10 bands in the world. What does he do from the strongest position he's ever found himself in. Nothing. With Phil gone and Boon convalescing the ESSENTIAL chemistry which created successful Level 42 was dead in the water. I know many don't hold this view, but yes, I would certainly be much more interested in the output of Mike, Phil and Boon collectively rather than Mark on his own or plus others - in fact, that's not even in doubt for me. After all, names don't reveal the full the full picture, Level 42 - 4 young friends full of the vigour and angst of youth swept along on a wave of funk become the front runners in that genre to critical acclaim. Years later they decisively move towards more commercial music to achieve chart success, which they accomplish easily and go on to become a major success selling 20 million records. Level 42 - one of the guys from the last group tours with 4 other people playing the same songs at the same venues year after year. You can see why the former group attracted me and I'm slightly unmoved by the latter. But, come on, they're not the same group - they just have the same name. This is hearing, not listening. > be greatful that we have something left.....not > nothing at all why? What exactly is this "something"? >And they are going to > record a new CD this year, > someone on this email list was knowing the facts > about it. Travis, watch out, you are taking Random Rumour and making it Gospel Truth. While there are a few people that have some inside scoop, they are coming forth with NO info, certianly no "facts". j __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
