DJ,

I think they have other things to think/talk about
about. One would have to think the answer would be,
"Lyndon who?"

>How many
> accomplished, experienced sax players are slagging
> of Sean?

See above.

>You should remember that MK chose

Yes, I heavily question MK's ability to audition.

> but I know talent when I see/hear it!

Fantastic, I'll send you a congratulatory gift. This
statement is as "valid" as my saying I know bad
singing and lame solos when I hear it. But you seem to
be enjoying this, so we can continue...

>I can find no fault, I
> always enjoy watching and listening to them.

Wonderful, but (here you were talking about Grupo MK
(ie. pre-Cover 42), which is fine, but you may be
thinking I am "slagging" people due to a band name,
which I am not. The name means little to nothing, it's
all about the sounds)if you find "no fault" with some
seriously bad singing (and I will leave out comments
about lame solos) in the early DVDs, well, then you
have "no" barometer to judge what is good.

> I think it would be
> interesting to hear what a combined effort would
> sound like, and that to me is VERY exciting!

Certainly, and while it seems that it may not happen,
and I do think there is somehting to say about it not
happening as of yet, and also feel that since no
creative spark has happened in over 4 years this will
cause the (if there is any) new material to be very
forced...but, we'll see.

cheers,
j

If you do not like the criticism of your blinkered, naive comments then don't post them. However, in an attempt
to be constructive, your argument falls apart on the basis that you are assuming that "Mark King would EXPLOIT
the name of Level 42 to cut corners with promotion of his NEW band." It is this assumptive cynicism that I take
objection to. Is this comment based on fact? Have I missed something? I, for one, am prepared to cut the guy
some slack. If your comments bare fruit in the future, then I'll tip my hat to you for your foresight.

The difference here is that George and Ringo did not leave the band while John and Paul carried on for another 7 years, and then John did not sell his share of the brand name to Paul years later.

What you critics seem to forget is that, however sentimental we are about our favorite band, the name "Level 42" ultimately is a brand name which represents a BUSINESS, and that three of the original partners in that business sold their shares, leaving only Mr. King.  And that's all there is to it.

But there was a time when instrumentalists were as highly regarded as singers, and we had pop heroes like Mark King, Edward Van Halen, Mark Knofpler, Ray Charles, Greg Allman, Dickie Betts, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, on & on.  Where are today's musos?  Today, it seems that it's ONLY about singers, and only vocally masturbating R&B singers at that!

Say what? I can't believe you have actually taken time to listen to his material (aside from the radio cuts), making that statement. John Mayer is the most obvious exception to the rule regarding the lack of musicianship in current pop fare. He is a phenomenal guitarist, a musician easily of Mark King's caliber. And I've heard that, like Mark with the bass, he only fairly recently picked up a guitar and discovered that he's a whiz at it. Plus, his lyric-writing is simply the finest to come along in years. Anyone who loves good popjazz music would love John Mayer, if they will give his albums a chance.

Peace - Don Z.

I do agree with Don on this; I believe Win was the one who was pointing the finger to John. I downloaded some tracks, and not long after that I decided to buy the album. It is a great album ( my fav "neon") and im planning to buy the first release of his acoustic album as well.

I did not know he played that short time; I knew he dropped out of Berklee; he found more pleasure in making music then study it.

Check out this guy as he is an exception to the rule !!

The more I think about this the more pathetic I see
it, while I understand the meaning of the quote (which
can be interpretted in a variety of ways) of the
situation, it in no way is applicable to the argument
(if we can call it that) DJ was posting.
The memebers being "slagged" have no albums, so, if I
am to "take the hint" (?!) am I merely supposed to
organize a cover band and do poor-to-fair renditions
of old tunes??

Dean, some outstanding points. Nice job.

Pete, I gotta say, this is the stupidest thing I've
read in some time.

Thursday

a) I am not here to make friends, that said, clearly
some of you are easily insulted, I am not here to make
enemies.
b) While my posts are always typed out in a rush at
work they are some of the only "constructive" posts
here. Far more "constructive" than any of the (very)
lame 'they are great' and etc type posts. You clammer
for answers, I touch upon them, then get retorts that
this is not enough.
My goal is not intelligent responses back (seemingly
impossible), but merely to make one think.
I do terribely believe that a major majority seems
this band as far more than a band, and that impaires
vision (and thought).

> If you want to talk about " Kiddie pop ", take a
> look at the UK charts at
> the moment, not Mark King's band !

Um, well, you seem to forget that the whole point of a
tune like "Forever Now" (or was this in ref to "the
Sunbed Song"?) was to try to get into that
mass-sucksess radio market. It's a bloody pop song!!
So comparing this to most of the pap on the charts,
all that is of note is that most of the stuff on the
radio is a tad bit better written (although equally
vapid, lame and boring) and certianly better produced.

We're talking The Big Picture here folks. The Industry
of music...

>Next thing you know,
> Mark King will tour in a clown suit, making balloon
> animals, calling it a
> "Level 42" tour.

Oye! Well, I guess this will take some of the heat of
my back! ;)

Ok, enough of this crap...for an off-topic: if some
are craving to see some good to live musik, Steve
Smith (those thinking pop music is the only music will
know him as Journey's drummer), most certainly one of
the top 3 drummers in the world, his band Vital
Information is on the road, still in Europe and then
heading to, I think, the West Coast. Baron Browne
laying down some amazingly smooth pocket playing on
bass. Saw them the other night and was pleased to see
a band thinking and having sincere fun.
