Dan, I’, sure ‘some’ comps by artists might be a ply by a record company, But surely you cant lump them all in there, because of something a guy At ‘WB’ said. ;-) Some compilations are done with the artists input, And are actually good. I find it funny that there are sooooo many for this band, Who only really had 2 HUGE albums. This stuff has been licensed to Numerous labels over the year, in as many contries.
Now, one good thing about this practice is that RCA/BMG or whatever the Heck they call themselves is going to re-release ‘Guaranteed’ and ‘Forever Now’ In newly remastered editons. 2 discs sets with extra tracks/remixes, later This year. This is due to the ‘resurgence’ of the band on another label.
I just hop they see the ‘Collection’ dvd and do a DVD of the videos that They control.
Also, I have read an interview with Mark regarding the SATS tour CD, Which was released on Paul Crockfords label, so I know the band were Aware of this release. But you are correct about it NOT being mixed. It wasn’t mixed because it COULDN’T be mixed. It was recorded live To 2 track tape at that gig.
Personally I like this release, especially as a document of Al Murphys Time in the band.

Eric, I’ve noticed that the new LIVE album –
‘Greatest Hits Live’ is listed at the
Bottom of the digest, and it shows a picture.
But when u check the link to AMAZON,
The picture doesn’t show. How the hell did that
happen. I demand you contact
AMAZON, and rectify this immediately.
;-)
too artistic for my
own good, he says... As you may have also guessed, that
image
is a placeholder
that I stuck there until the "actual" cover art is available. I've
updated
it with the word
"TEMP" to avert confusion!

Welcome,
Mauro!!
Also, Dan
wrote a good piece about how compilations get released in "the music
biz"... very
interesting.
All of this was news to me. I guess there's no business like show
business.
cheers,
Eric

I agree with Dean's comments, the Dutch version of
"Greatest Hits & More" is one of my favourites. My copy also has the Night
Of The Proms logo on when Mark was playing with this set of concerts. Another
favourite is "The Very Best of Level 42" which has a caricatures of the original
line up on the cover.....
The worst was "The Remixes" which was really expensive and a big disappointment....

| As an avid compilation collector I feel I'm better placed than most to ruminate on the merits of the 20 or so Level 42 compilations. By far the worst is the recent 'Star Collection' it's almost worth avoiding, even for collectors. By far the best is a CD/cassette entitled 'On The Level' release around 1995 (that's a guess). The reason being is that it is the only place in the entire world in which you will find the full version of 'Standing In The Light', 'So out of school he walks alone soon his thoughts are flowing like a golden stream an empty house he calls his home, the place becomes a temple to a silent dream sometimes he will clap and sing, and deep in meditation he will learn to be and only birds upon the wing with upwards fascination claim to be so free.' As someone with a passing interest in poetry, and trying to be as unbiased as possible, I can say that this is an example of, for me, one of the key factors in making Level 42 truly great; a lyrical quality not achieved by their peers. Anyway, you can still pick the CD up, maybe from www.netsounds.com. I know Standing In The Light is one of my personal top 10 Level 42 songs and for anyone who feels the same, this compilation is a must. A great shame that version of SITL wasn't on the reissues.
