1.  The Jazz Singer

Somebody implied the other day that the line-up for the Bermuda 'Jazz'
Festival reflected that jazz is in a mess at the moment. Far from it. In the
last few weeks alone Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band have knocked EMG off my
Discman on the way to work, and Hirome Uehara promises much if she can calm
down a bit before her next album.

Regarding Kenny G, a few years back Michael Bolton apparently welcomed him
on stage at Wembley as 'the greatest sax player in the world', in a week
when across London at Ronnie Scott's the late Bob Berg was in residence. Ah
well, it made me laugh.

"After reading Lolita's comments regarding the line-up for the Bermuda
Jazz Festival - I guess the word JAZZ needs some defining in this
ever-changing musical world we live in - it seems that if it has a good
beat, more than 5 live players on stage, no lyrics, and not commercially
popular it is defined as jazz. I do agree that R&B/Soul music is not
always in keeping with traditional jazz - but was it not the founders of
jazz to push the envelope and defy categorization, even in the days of
fusion and the upsurge of Latin Jazz?"

Jazz doesn't have a definition, you just feel it, dude!

Try mineral oil and a cotton ball. Works great for me.
