Interesting to see the debate about the current Level 42 musicians either being talented or no hopers.

Personally I think there is no doubt that they are not as talented as Phil or Boon but hey give them a break.  I saw them play in Hanover in Dec last year and they sounded great to me.  The sax was great...keyboards  tight and the vocals were superb.  Germans don't usually dance at gigs but believe me when I say the place was 'cooking'  Ok it was a trip down memory lane but for 2 and a half hours I was a young man again.  I met the band after the concert.  They were kind and courteous and took the time out to sign all autographs and pose for pictures with the fans.  There are loads of German Level 42 fans!  I spoke with Mark for about 5 mins and asked him various questions especially about new material.  Songs have been written however he feels the band needs a bit more time together to tighten up.

Knock the current lineuop at your peril.  One day they may just decide to throw the towel in and you'll be left with nothing apart from your CDs and records.  Myself...long may they continue playing that 'Level 42 sound'  The rest of you knockers out there give them a chance.  They ain't perfect admittedly but I'd rather have them than nothing.

Regards to all

Danny

Level 42 with the Goulds was fantastic.  Without the Goulds, not as fantastic. The biggest assumption I keep reading is that Level 42 would still be fantastic if the Goulds were still in the line-up. Why make an assumption that with the Goulds, there would never be a dud album?  Who's to say an intact Level 42 would not have migrated to something totally unlistenable?

> JT, I'm sorry but I cannot agree with this kind of
> comment,

Not a problem, I'm not starting a cult and trying to
win converts.

> which you may find amusing - but I don't.
> It's actually quite offensive to me,

No, aside from a bit of research and knowing alot
about music, I dont give it too much thought; my day's
are far too busy to be "offended" by someone's
critique of anything, aside from my personal work.

>as I don't feel
> it is based on anything factual.

25 years or so of me knowing a pretty vast amount
about music (although, not a practitioner anymore) 3
DVDs, 1 official released live CD, numerous boots and
1 concert attended. The facts lay therein.

> you are slagging off are very talented musicians

While I give my opinion, this is yours. And hardly
based any "fact(s)".

> are more than capable of delivering the product

No proof of this.

<Gary was writing for L42 during

Gary was not in my list of "sub-par".

>Lyndon...the most skilled and varied keyboard players
>in the business.

This is a _fantastic_ gross overstatement.

> and a top geezer!

Means nothing toward musicality.
Odd how you didn't mention those stunning vocals of
his...(I know, I know, 'he's one of the best vocalist
in the biz'...of course)

<I don't think your viewpoint is
> valid as it is not based on anything factual.

yes, I am wrong, you are right, your facts are
astounding.

> seem to vent an obvious dislike of new "members"
> taking the old seats, as it were.

No, and for at least the 10th time, a critique os what
is put in front of us TODAY does not mena a longing
for YESTERDAY. I am continually astounded by this
analogy, it really just goes to show...

>If it's crap, i'd say so -

but what will your factual basis of "crap" be?

> I would have more respect than to just slag them
> off.

If I had respect for them, I wouldn't be "slagging".

cheers,
j

It's nice to see some support for Level 42 again,it was getting a bit
tedious the way everyone was having a go at the band.
But lets now wait for the response from the one's who are still stuck living
the past and slagging the band off.You watch them pick up on your comments
and slag you off sentance by sentance and they must be right cause theve
been on the digest longer than us.
Why don't they just goto the relive the past digest and leave this for the
current Level 42 fans.

That should wind them up ;-)
