Hi folks,

Glad to see my recent e-mail ‘struck home’ with a couple of you guy’s. I‘ve read the responses, and you are completely correct in saying that we all have our own opinions and are therefore entitled to have our say.

Well that’s great folks, I had mine and you’ve had yours, everyone happier now??

Also, picking out the highs and the lows of a twenty year career just hasn’t occurred to me, sorry about that! I just appreciate the lot. Does it really make a blind bit of difference anyway?

As for the comments about the True Level 42 fan, I don’t really regret saying that but hey you’re right, we’re all fans! Why else do we come to this site and voice our opinions so much.

Sorry for sounding ‘narky’ in my last e-mail, it wasn’t my intention, honest.

See ya,

Davy (One of the many True Level 42 fans)..is that better??

HELLO!    HELLO!
Please can anyone tell me why certain subscribers to this site feel they have the right to tell people that they are listening to music that is inferior?
Surely people have minds of their own and what one person thinks is good another may think is not. I caught L42 at a gig late last year and it was excellent. MK was there along with some other TALENTED MUSICIANS. You can't bring back the original lineup so my advise is, please let us know your opinion, it's greatly appreciated and very interesting, but move on and post some positive messages please.

Excellent site with some interesting forthright people on it.

ok, freedom of speech and all that is fine, but bashing albums that you don't like by what is supposedly one of your favourite bands is becoming tiring and to be honest, a little worrying.  who cares that they made staring at the sun and guaranteed???  the fact that a band that we so love had a very successful career for more than a decade should be enough.  most bands don't last 5 mins in this industry.  also, mark king is back under the name of level 42!!  what a fantastic thing!  not only is that band incredible and reminds me of the early level 42, the real point is that the music is still out there being played live, new music is being recorded and the name and sound of level 42 is being brought back and celebrated.  why on earth should we focus our attention on the albums that we don't like as much when there are a huge amount of albums and singles and videos to satisfy the level 42 fan, not to mention the new stuff that i personally am very thankful for.  if i were mark king, and if i read the last week's worth of digest messages, i would be wondering why on earth i went back to my roots if those "fans" i thought i had are 42 bashing and complaining about what i am doing now.
ok, so maybe i went a little far, but guys, please, let's celebrate the band, not knock them for decisions that were made by people we don't know.  maybe they had no choice, maybe the record company edged them into a direction they didn't want to go.  maybe they DID decide to go in a new direction - who cares!  it's good music and that's what counts.
i love level 42 for their jazz/funk era, yes, but hell, i'll listen to the later stuff over most of the crap that's out there today.

thank you and remember they are great people who live for music and love what they do and i wish i was in their position.

Guaranteed is not poor, it is different. With a Little Love has one of
the coolest grooves.

Hey, Micro-Kids:

Considering the news these days, I'm starting to crank
up the vocal version of "Coup d'Etat" from UK "World
Machine" more and more. That song kicks...and the
lyrics are still relevant.

Status Quo AND Jools Holland?! I know the all-new Level 42 isn't to
everybody's taste, but who did they upset to get themselves sandwiched
between two such paragons of tediously repetitive,
if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it drivel?

First and foremost (cliché!), I would like to thank Zak & Leslie for
opening up their home.
My L42 experience has largely been one of a private nature (at home, in
the shower, in my car). I never knew
how extensive the fan loyalty was. To all that attended, you are THE
nicest group of people I have ever met.
Good jam....Adam w/his superb "chops". Thanks to Winston for a rich
multimedia experience, and to all my fellow
technical gurus'. I look forward to the next gathering. Perhaps I'll
tap out Wally Badarou next time (I'm a little shy).

dunno... I think this was intentionally forwarded by Monique. If not,
then I blame society at large for spam and UCE.

Aha, finally some "controversial" topics. Goodie. I think we can assume
they had groupies, although perhaps not the same time that Van Halen or
Motley Crue had. Re: drugs, I believe that Mark used to be an alcoholic
(wasn't that the whole interview spiel in Fait Accompli?) but I don't
know about actual drugs per se... wasn't there a story about Boon and
Mike coming up with the name "Level 42" while smoking pot in a parking
garage in NYC or something?

cheers,
Eric

Good points Nick, I hadn't thought of those. I guess the whole Royalties
this IS more complex than I thought.
I guess there are quite a few Level 42 comps out there also which Boon,
Mike, Wally, Phil etc...get some nifty royalties from those too. Different
countries seem to have diff comps as well.

If anyone is willing to burn me copies, please email me privately.
Naturally, I'll cover all costs.

I gotta go more with Dan's breakdown, although he
wasn't harsh enough!.
AG, slap the CD in, give it the ol' breakdown, I'd do
it but I'm still impaired from the last listening...

Let's not start on SATS yet. I've only just listed to Guaranteed over
the weekend, and am still collecting my thoughts. I was busy however and
couldn't write anything down.

However Ape thoughts. Interesting lyric about evolution, though only
some lines were coherent, OK it's not a story. One can picture
Australopithecine Lucy trudging across the Seregheti, or whatever it was
way back then. Its an interesting track in that it is all percussion,
with strange jazzy brass breaks. I would think that is is all Mark,
featuring those roto-toms he was left with after the 15 nights at the
Appollo. I think he may actually like this track himself for that.
However, you'll never hear it live now after the slating! I hope, as a
joke, Mark announces it as a number on the next tour, just to see the
jaws drop in the front row. It probably really belongs on Trash as its
all Mark. You could actually dance to it!

While going through the CD pile I found that promo CD by the
YchromoBoys. I quite enjoyed it. Competant playing. But as I thought at
the time I got it, they need a singer.

Unfortunately, since Britain isn't yet officially the 51st state of the USA,
I won't be able to hear it myself.
