| Since when is Coup de Etat about a meglomaniacal woman? I thought it was your standard "anti-war" ditty. And, the lowest video moment for L42. there's a thread, perhaps - what is the most embarassing L42 video moment? It could be a scene or a passage. I would nominate the entire Coup de Etat video - so heavily "symbolic" and "metaphorical" in that eighties way. yeah, I know, too critical. -TF __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? | > From: Willem < > is the webdigest down ? Fairly unfortunate timing since I had previously threatened to shut it down because of the ongoing 'evil' thread. Rest assured that it has not been shut down on purpose (although that is still an option if things keep on going the way they have the last week)... The web-digest lives on my home DSL connection and about every 4-6 weeks I have to power-cycle the 'modem' because it goes offline. I should've done it before leaving on holiday two weeks ago just to be sure, but unfortunately there's nobody around to kick it now and I won't be home until Wednesday evening/Thursday morning--so I'm afraid it'll be unavailable for the next 4-5 days. Sorry for the inconvenience--I'm sure there are quite a few people out there thinking that I shut it down on purpose! It'll be back up later in the week. Thanks... | ||

| Coming to work today (Sunday), I stopped lakeside and did some reading, cuz coming to work on such a nice day (although a tad bit of windy)sucks...I threw a new book into my bag, as I must always carry a book with me, and this morning finished Harold Bloom's _Genius_ (recommended); I took the book Alex mentioned a few weeks ago: _Ghost Rider_ by Neil Peart. Although just starting it, I am a bit surprised at the openness of it (although I guess that's part of the point of it, since it is his dealing with several losses), as opposed to his first book which, if I recall correctly, used the word "musician" once. Anyway, I came across I little bit that reminded me of what some have been saying here, kooky enough, started by Alex. And this is one of the saving graces to living this silly life, there will always be several opinions (that matter, ie. "informed") and takes on things (ditto), unfortunately, majority sings (screams) louder. Anyway, here's Neil's take on touring, which, as mentioned, Alex thinks (and a few others concurred) maybe is the sheer joyful reason into why Mark King is going through the motions for such strenuous and draining 1 month tours... "I began to think about how I was going to endure yet another rock tour, which I had always perceived as a combination of crushing tedium, constant exhaustion, and circus-like insanity...by about the third show we would get it _right_, the band and crew and audience locked together in a transcendent performance, and as far as I was concerned, that was _it_. If my job was to play a good show, then I had done it. Goal achieved, challenge met, case dismissed. Can I go home now? ...So for me, touring could be long, relentless grind, exhausting and soul-destroying. And that only refers to the onstage time..." I always thought that At This Great Distance was a better track than either All She Wants and As Years Go By. Although they're both good b-sides, I thought that's where they belonged. For me, they're both a little to "pop" and would've seemed slightly out of place on the Guaranteed album. At This Great Distance is different from anything the band had produced before and although I can understand why it was left off the album, I felt at the time it would've been a good album closer. Steve By the way folks, I have 4 cd singles I'm looking to trade if anyone's interested. They are Take A Look, My Father's Shoes 1 track promo and both parts of LIAPW. I'm searching for the To Be With You Again cd single, so mail me privately if you're interested or can help. *************************************************************************** This email is confidential and may well also be legally privileged. Too true about Chaning The
Guard. I got my copy (recently - off Ebay) for £10 and I know of another which
went for the same. Nice to see Tin Man fetching a high
price.

| Eric threaded: >> But in my opinion, NO band >> in the world EVER needs two drummers. And EMIKATIE @ aol.com threaded >>The Allman Brothers Band is the ONE exception to that rule. Get the dts version of "Live at the >>Fillmore East" and you'll hear how dual drummers can make it work. (but you may need to face the rear >>surrounds). There are some other exceptions to the rule... Adam And The Ants used two drummers (Chris Hughes & Terry Lee Miall) - playing different patterns that gelled brilliantly. Also, Stephen Perkins and Tommy Lee of Methods Of Mayhem were a very good coupling. The pairing of Phil Collins and Chester Thompson can not be sneezed at either. Pat Mastellotto and Bill Bruford work very well together in King Crimson (as pointed out earlier). There have also been pairings like Mel Gaynor & Mike Ogletree in Simple Minds (New Gold Dream). And, there a great piece by Dave Weckl & Steve Gadd (On DW's album Master Plan). And don't forget the greats like Louie Bellson & Eric Delaney, Buddy Rich & Gene Krupa... need I go on? So, in essence, there are times when two drummers working together CAN work. In my most humble of opinions as always... Terry | ||
