| Pardon me for not understanding the euphemism, but round here, when tits
are up, it's actually a good thing :)

Well, I don’t think anyone has personally spoken to the band and gotten A definitive answer about an album, or recording being dead. All I have Heard for sure is that Phil has stopped working, and the other 3 are Carrying on.
I doubt anything is completed, because they have’nt really had much time, With tour prep, etc, etc.
My guess is that if it really ends, Boon’s excellent site will update us all. Until thattime, its just all rumours and speculation from various fans, not Unlike this message. ;-)

I love to listen to their demo version of "Free
Yourself". This one's found in their remastered "True Colours" album. Wouldn't
it be great to have it released, with or without lyrics?
Cheers.... | ||

| <Well, with Winston and Don both denouncing my logic, I'm questioning my mettle for this debate. But for the sake of closure, perhaps I should qualify my opinion with the fact that everyone I've ever met at a L42 show (that's 5 shows in the last few years) has been a die-hard fan. Granted, they've nearly all been other Digesters, so maybe that's a bias.> Eric - I have two theories. The first is that the smaller places like The Jazz Cafe might attract many more diehards than the bigger spaces like Oxford Apollo or Hammersmith Odeon, and you likely [outside of the '99 shows] have only really seen them in venues like that. My other theory is that perhaps because you either have good tix or a good standing spot in a general admission place, most of those tickets/spots are often snatched up by die hard fans [hence the long queues at Jazz Cafe, for example] and you are thus surrounded by people just like you... That being said, it seemed that the entire crowd at Saturday night's Steely Dan concert were diehards. During Don't Take Me Alive, the crowd was singing along so loudly that Donald Fagan literally stopped singing and gasped - we sang three lines without him while he exchanged awestruck looks with Walter. BTW, the new drummer in Steely Dan is only 25 years old, not 30. I was floored because he was amazing. Whoever saw the show in Paso Robles, too bad your crowd made you feel too young. Ours definitely had a good mix agewise - as a matter of fact there were six kids in the front row with their various parents, and two teenage boys knew the words to most of the songs! It was very cool to see the cross generational mix. Also, the Steely Dan Digest had a huge Danfest so there were fans who flew in from all over the country and the world for the Roseland shows, thus a large portion of the people in the front knew all the lyrics and were dancing and bopping. That is likely why Walter made the comment that this was the best gig ever. BTW - whoever asked if they should go see Steely Dan or not: DON'T MISS IT! It was the best show I've seen this year outside of Incognito. **** Important Notice to Recipients **** It is important that you do not use e-mail to request, authorize or effect the purchase or sale of any security or commodity, to send fund transfer instructions, or to effect any other transactions. | Yep, this is a Brit expression alright! "Tits", are UK slang for breasts. The phrase "Tits up" is a visual analogy referring to when a woman accidentally falls over, flat on her back, and her breasts point upwards toward the sky! Unlikely, but it makes for a colourful expression to describe when a situation falls over and goes wrong, hence, it "all goes tits up". Now for your next lesson in UK slang, ever heard of the phrase "it's bollocksed!"? thedrumdoctor | ||

Eric the H >I disagree that the majority of Level 42's concert->goers these days would be >the greatest-hits-cd crowd, so this brings up an >interesting point... I think it’s probably a mish-mash, although outweighed with the adjective fans, and this counter-balance will increase as the flogging of the L42 dead-horse carries on. The radio listeners (i.e. “hits fans”) or the “isn’t 80s nostalgia grand?” peoples may have caught a gig of the Greatest Hits Tour. But now that a lot of the same venues will be played with a differently titled tour, although the tunes will probably not be too diverse (it IS plugging the Ultimate CD (and moreso the single CD, as usually only the adjective-fans will purchase double to triple CD sets). [and to semi-clarify that there will be, as Win estimates, a swapping of a few tunes, Terry did state some time ago that Gary did say they had some rehearsal time before the tour. But then again, things have changed within the band since then…] and once a set list is decided upon it will probably be laminated and one could set their time piece to it…. >I'd wager that the crowd is predominantly die hard >fans. Getting moreso; while the occasional nostalgia fan will surf in, some caught it on the ‘GH’ tour and I kinda doubt that they will now feel nostalgic for…last year. Maybe they’ll wait for next years Millennium Collection Tour, or the following years Best of Tour… And some of it is people that (oddly) consider a concert a social event, too. Their neighborhoods (seemingly) offer little to do, so might as well catch a gig, hang with some people and drink some beer (certainly sounds like an excised chapter from _Inferno_) …And let’s not get into “literacy” …or whatever a ‘die hard’ fan is…does that mean singing out loud at a concert? I just thought that meant “asshead” -this kind of action would surely result in a swift elbow to the jaw (although I would first ask nicely and inform them I did not come to a concert to hear _them_ sing) >I mean, are you really that disgruntled as you're hearing SAY played live? It’s really only one of the few times I wish I were a heroin addict… Eric, I imagine the people you’ve met at shows categorize themselves as ‘die hard’ cuz, at least with General Admission venues (non-seating assigned) the adjectives will show up early to get a better spot, casuals will saunter in and grab a beer, but may be no less a “fan”. The adjectives will be the ones hanging out outside waiting to thank the boys for a so-so performance, I would imagine. Head counts can be taken then. Recognition (louder crowd cheer) at some of the more popular tunes doesn’t necessarily mean it’s just the radio listeners, a great deal of the adjectives “love” these tunes too and apparently find that not hearing these/this tune(s) live is synonymous to oxygen depletion. Also, as for ‘mammaries upright’ (tits up) it doesn’t take a wild stretch of the imagination to figure that usually a dead body is pictured on its back (unless one is haunted by thoughts of being face down in Gloria Swanson’s pool)…and while the general consensus is indeed the project is dead in the water, no talk of them getting so far as the studio has been established. Apologies for the structure (although I think the points are clean and sharp enough to penetrate, even to those who seem to have a difficult time with some of these things), but as I too find it annoying to read my words, I just can’t bring myself to tidy this up… j(ay) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
