>Never? Ever? People often say they don't drink, and then under the
>angle-poise lamp admit to one at Christmas and birthdays.

Well, not never. But I haven't drunk alcohol at all since about
'92...and that includes Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings etc. I've not
become some anti-alcohol puritan (just leave that to the mobiles), and
I'm not some kind of cheepskate either...a round of drinks costs me the
same as anyone.

Interrogate me all you like but I spend my working life under an
angle-poise, so that holds no fear for me.

>I'm married to my stepsister.

Really?!? I'm OK with that ***adjusts collar, dabs brow, shuffles
uncomforftably in seat***

>I think you'll find this service is aimed exclusively at fans of
Premiership
>teams, most of whom wouldn't know what the inside of a football ground
looks
>like.

I assumed as much. In fact on the BBC's Watchdog programme there was
someone moaning that he had bought the 'phone to see the goals, but
couldn't actually see the ball (definition problems I guess). What a
sad twat! Mind, even if they did go so low as to show Conference goals
on there, I still wouldn't see any, being a Dagenham and Redbridge
supporter.

Oh, and there was another berk on there (market trader, Portobello Road)
who complained that he couldn't see his sister on his new video mobile
'phone. He thought it would be a "bit of fun" to see her. Presumably
he couldn't remember what she looked like. They never actually asked the
question "Does your sister also have a video mobile 'phone?" I suspect
the answer is obvious.

Its bin Gr8

Again, thanks to Laurence Green, Ronald Kuipers, Simon Carson, and Don
Zipf for answering my questions on STANDING IN THE LIGHT and FOREVER NOW,
both in the Digest and by direct e-mail. The time and effort is certainly
appreciated.

Next up is something I know was discussed in the old Digest, but I'm
simply not inclined to go digging around my e-mail archives to find the
answers. So, my attention is now on WORLD MACHINE, and in particular, the
two different versions available. I'm know the first version released in
the UK (with 'I Sleep On My Heart', 'Dream Crazy', and 'Coup D'Etat') was
how the album was originally presented, so why the dropping of three
songs, the adding of two, and the (slight) reworking of the sequence? My
first guess would be that someone at Polydor saw 'Hot Water' and 'The
Chant Has Begun' as potential singles since they had already had been so
in Europe. In fact, I believe that 'Hot Water' was released (as a 12"
single anyways) over here, as was World Machine (again, only as a 12").
I'm also a big fan of 'I Sleep On My Heart', and personally would've
tried to work that as a single over both 'Hot Water' and 'The Chant...".
Why that was dropped is quite beyond me.

This was my first exposure to the band (as it was with a lot of U.S. fans
I'm sure), so this album ranks among my favorites (though not my absolute
favorite from them). Having heard both versions though, I have to say
that the tracklisting on the U.S. versions "flows" a little smoother than
the UK one does. 'Something About You' is definitely a great track to
open an album with (though I'm not knocking the title track in any way),
and I feel it stands a little better on it's own rather than jumping off
of 'Physical Presence' like it does on the original.

So the short list is: why the track change, who made the decision, and
who then decided to make both versions available in the States on CD? Was
the U.S. CD version of WM also released in Europe in 1986?

And while I'm on the subject, I don't suppose anyone has live recordings
from the band's U.S. tour in 1986 opening for Steve Winwood? I'd be
particularly interested in the gig from Glens Falls, NY.

Later,

Chris L.
