Erm thanks to Mike the Pom and jt
Very persuasive arguments there boys (not) and a nice attitude to go with it.
Very condescending and funnily enough both of you are coming across exactly the same as what you are accusing me of!

Sure it was tossed into the ring by AG as a bit of fun, but I felt like giving a response from MY own point of view.

Hey guys, I have been beaten up, laughed at, ridiculed etc. etc. etc. most of my life for being a Christian so your attack on me is not anything new.
I can happily handle it though wonder why you would both react so venomously if what I said really did mean nothing at all.

Quote from Mike
The problem I have with the
'god squad' generally is they cannot take
responsibilty for their own lives. And they think
their faith is too sacred to debate, instead taking on
a smug 'I know better than you' air.

Absolutely the opposite for me, you couldn't be more wrong.
Why the generalisation on your debate comment.?
Is that based on personal experience, because the vast majority of Christians I know will happily debate their faith anytime at all.
Feel free to email me anytime and I will debate away with you!!!!

Let's just say I'm wrong, what are the consequences for me? I die and nothing.
However if I dare suggest this, what if you are wrong? Think of your absolute worst nightmare and multiply it by a billion and you still won't be close.

You won't get smugness from me. I fail every single day and as much a sinner as anyone.
However you won't take away my faith and certainty no matter how many sticks and stones you hurl my way

3.  Letter from Mark King

I too got that 'letter' from Mark with a slight alteration!
Quote. but somehow Ipswich stands out as something really special.

Replace Ipswich with Plymouth and I suspect every other venue depending on who the letter is sent to and the gig they attended!!!!.

Good really, that means Mark enjoyed every single night as a really special occasion!

Seriously, I'm looking forward to the Plymouth gig and the Wife is even coming with me this year. Her first concert since 1987 and I'm sure she will enjoy it
I hope they vary the track list from last year to give it variety for all those that went then.

Howevere just to underline the importance that the band have to do a fair number of hits though, my Wife would be expecting to hear those.
There must be many many people going for just the same reason so us regulars will just have to accept it and enjoy the hits again!

cheers

Pete

After sifting through some remnants of the old digest, I came across some of our old BIOs.  Albeit mine has changed somewhat after 5 years, and I thought it might make for a temporary rejuvenation of chatter on this line that would provide at least something of "value" whilst we wait to discuss Lindup's new CD once out.

Hope you all are well in life, and enjoying it to the fullest.

5.  Hell, was the "god squad"

Mike the Pom quoth:

> What typical parochial Christian bollocks! You were
> there, were you? I know for just as certain that there
> is no god, no higher being, no heaven, no hell, no
> afterlife. . .

Actually, I can confirm that there is a Hell. I happen to be listening to it as I type, and the boys sounded great.  :)

I, for one, would hope that if the main list does not survive this most recent catharsis of the never-ending lifecycle of mailing lists (search the archives for Sarah McLaughlin and lifecycle), then I pray that, at-least some part of it survives in the form of what had been the ILF list of yesteryear. While I do enjoy keeping up with the goings on of the artists together and severally identifying themselves as Level 42, in one guise or another, if it didn't come to me in my mailbox, I'd never hear another word of it.

Alas, there are too many things pulling in too many directions for me to log onto the web digest and try to wade through the noise for signal.

And now I'll go back to lurking.

Chaps

Hey come on - give Pete a break here, he had the courage to come out and air
his faith to others, which is not easy!. If he got it out of context, fair
enough. That takes guts - it doesn't take any guts to start saying "Smell
the shit" or "you're on your own in this world". If that's your views, fine
I respect that, but your comments are pretty hurtful to someone with a
faith, he wasn't being nasty at all.

Mike, I don't think Pete was being holier than thou at all, that's not how I
read it. Merely he was stating his faith in relation to a previous point -
I wasn't following the thread that closely to be honest, but I was well
aware of this statement. I think you were a harsh on the chap! When you
announce your gayeity, would you expect the same treatment?! ;) I have
similar beliefs but couldn't make a statement like that, and I admire him
for having the guts to do so! So, let's all calm down and shake hands, OK?!

Since there's shag all to talk about at the moment, I guess anything like
this is prime picking! But since I'm on the subject, presuming you've all
read that letter from MK that Mikey posted - don't you think it's time
someone made a statement from the band, regarding this damned reunion
project? Has MK gaffa taped his fingers together or something - can't he
use email?!?! Even if it's come to nothing, some kind of statement would be
nice for the fans who've bought all the original records, trudged round the
world umpteen times to see every incarnation etc., and had their hopes
revived by Boons statement?!

L42 were always so good at looking after their fans - even the fan club in
their heyday, was financed by the band (!) so if they still value their
fans, just a quick hello wouldn't hurt! Not just a "Hello friends, there's
a new mega greatest hits DVD, out only £19.99, love MK"! It's as if all the
spirit is gone and it's just a touring circus, cashing in on the retro
generation. Hopefully I'm wrong - but that's how I feel at the moment,
deflated and disappointed. What little hope I had in something new has
rapidly disappeared due to the lack of feedback. And that letter is like
salt to the wound, really. Love to all the people paying £20 to see him in
Ipswich, not even a two fingered salute to all those who came to see him
play the dog & duck on the One Man tour, remember he couldn't even fill
Wolverhampton Civic hall, so had to go somewhere smaller. Needless to say,
I won't be going to see any cover 42 gigs this year - regardless of how good
I think they sound. You put your fans first.

Maybe this is why Phil has gone off in a huff again?! But I guess we'll
never find out, 'cos that might stop people buying the next ultimate rip off
collection boxed set sack of shit?! What you sow you reap - look after your
fans, and you get rewards back ten fold! Look at all the US digesters who
came over on the One Man Tour and consequent ones! That's pretty rare,
abuse it and it's very hard to get that back. Fans are any bands bread and
butter - they buy all your records, It's the die hards who will still come
and see you when you're not cool any more, and can't pull the birds. Piss
them off, and well - you'll be as popular as Team Knight Rider was in the
UK......what?! Exactly!

Dave

P.S. Sorry for the rant, but it's been a crap week.

7.  The Digest

Hey, you guys knock it off with the religious discussion--this ain't the Jesus Digest, it's the Steely Dan Digest, dammit!!  ;o)

And since we're recounting how we each discovered The Digest:

It was January of '97, and AOL had just taken the unprecedented step of offering unlimited internet service for one low price ($20/month) in the US.  For years, I had been using CompuServe (text-only), which charged by-the-hour like they all did then, but had never really explored the Internet because there was an extra hourly charge.  So I switched to AOL, like millions of other people at that time, and the first thing I searched for was info on Level 42, my favorite band since the late 80's.

The first Digester I met was Rich Herron (where is he now?), a professional deejay and magician from Indiana, who stopped in on his way to a James Randi convention in Florida!  Then, in May 1998 on the Isle of Wight in England, Lolita almost single-handedly created the International Level Fest where I finally got to meet so many of the fine people I'd known previously only through The Digest.

Then, Mark started touring again, and I have been to the UK at least once every year since, except last year, to hear the best live music in the world and hang out with you people.  Yes, we owe Eric a lot--this Digest has had an impact on it's readers lives, which he could not have imagined when he started it.  Thanks, man!!  :o)

‘Spirit Level’?
