1.  Digest

Wow - I received a digest at work for the first time today!!! One finally found a way through!

I've learned to stop mentioning the name 'L*vel 42' too many people are too precious about it and its boundaries are ill defined.

Some amongst MK, ML, BG, PG don't want to go anywhere near the album, promo, tour merry-go-round ever again. I think they've just got together to write an album for the heck of it, just write and record, no desperate push for sales or anything.

And in just the same way that Mark's band had new material to perform live after 'Trash' which they didn't write, they'll have new material to perform at the next tour they didn't write - big deal. I can't imagine them being remotely perturbed.

As far as I know Lyndon Connah et al all write music and I'm sure a lot of it is available if people want to hear it anyway. But you've got say that the best men for the job of writing a MK,ML,PG,BG,WB album (the people who wrote the majority of the Level 42 albums) are MK,ML,PG,BG,WB, oh, and me of course, but I haven't been asked.

See ya

Wow, nifty; there is a potential project for the
original members and that doesn't get some of the
non-regulars to post, but I do a little typing and
that gets people to try to start forming words.
But I would like to say I am honoured, I consider
myself a messiah to stupidity, and I will pledge to
help you with your steps through life.
First we will get you through CandyLand (yes, Pete,
again, if you draw a red card, you move your game
piece to a red spot), then Chutes and Ladders, but
again, kids, stop trying to play chess...

Needless to say, the few weeks I didn't post anything
was about as exciting and informative as reading a
blank sheet of paper, so pardon me if I don't feel
like I'm interrupting something.

-PETEWILLISMUSIC
> Zzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzz

Wow, a Joycean-type post from our own "professional
music listener", nice job. Your ability to converse is
improving, gold star, old boy! You must be the pride
of your Kindergarten class.

-David F Jacobs
Nice post, Dave.
> will have gotten even better with age! This is what

- Michael Payne
And thanks to Mr. Payne for insightful (and realistic)
thinking.

-alex.friesen @ sickkids.ca

>>> Everything is written on the wind,
> Like, wow, dude! That's, like, so ethereal.

er, not really, simply the title to a 1956 Douglas
Sirk flick (which I don't recall had anything to do
with Ether)(although that _could_ be dependant on
one's opinion of Rock Hudson).

>Wait a sec', I'm switching on my lava lamp.

Which would then make this wind cry "Mary"?

- keith ashley
>RE- JT and any other muppet

While the mention of a muppet is kinda cute, the
reasoning behind calling someone(s) who think about
things via many angles turns your usage of a puppet
into an oxymoron.

> Try to be more like me and the true Level fans, then
> you wont seem so bitter
> twisted and foolish.

Ah! An Adjective fan! My favorite...

> I suppose you have to do something now youve been
> proved wrong and Mark isnt
> the bad guy you want him to be.

Um. Um. Maybe your could 1) re-read my post from
yesterday clarifying your confusion, and B) wait and
see...

> Why cant you have your own personality instead of
> trying to copy AG.

You shouldn't offend AG that way; aside from a variety
of differences he clearly is more coy and clever than
I, and has a much firmer grasp on Grahmer.
Sorry, F- for Deductive Comparisons.

> As for the investment tip you wanted try Pace Micro,
> You will find im right
> on that aswell.

Up 12.84% since you wrote that (well, 10cents), not
bad...

- ALLAN ROBERTSON
>>>(obviously he DOESN’T want the best band he can
>>>get…),

> What else can mark do? Phil is not interested in
> touring, Mike is involved with da lata, etc and
> Boon has his own projects.

Auditions keyboardists, guitarists & vocalists?

> Surely this way u get the best of both worlds - u
> get the original members creating new material and
> the current lineup promoting it - whats wrong with
> that JT? - it seems some folk are never happy.

Don't get me wrong, Allan, this is potentially pretty
cool news. Although the way it was gone about was a
little shifty and it seems that it is being done for
the wrong reasons, all I hope is that they truly put
together an album with feeling and not try to 'reach
for the charts'...

-Michael Payne (pt 2)
> I mean, a short mention on L42.com would
> have seemed appropriate!

Uh oh, this is gonna rile up Loz with his fantasy that
L42 is actually an equal partnership thing...
it seems very evident that MK only answers email/adds
something to the Web when one orders something
(although, that said, his turn-around time IS
spectacular)

-Winston Walker

> JT..were u perhaps a little harsh in your response
> yesterday? :-)

I thought I was going easy.
That said, while a few of you know/pick up on that I
add humour to my posts (these are not angry rants--
well, maybe), I don't feel the need to pepper them
with 'smileys'. personally I find watching a program
with a 'laugh track' insulting, I don't need to be
told when to laugh. But I imagine that producers add
it on 99% of shows because people _do_ need to be
told. Oh well.

>And why is it folks keep going back
> to MARK being some money Hungry guy?

Because it's (clearly) not about Music? (not really a
question)

Love, kisses & blessing to all...this is my body,
j

Level 21 (x2)?
(I've already copyrighted "Cover42", so MK needs to
contact me if he wants that one...)

> JT's

I separate my comedy from my sneering. Unfortunately
even my own humour doesn’t sooth the utter contempt I
have for unabashed empty-headedness.

>Which is a shame, because
> I think he's wasting a
> lot of energy which could be spent being witty and

It doesn't take that much energy, but I appreciate the
concern.
If trying to make people think and be accountable for
their own words doesn't get one's 'back up', then we
are closer to 'hell' than I thought.
Which also reminds me of another e.g. of the
difference between AG and JT; AG clearly has a higher
threshold of dealing with mendacity, mediocrity,
stupidity and other such common traits.

-David Loundy
> For anyone who has the new Collection DVD-- is this
> concert footage
> (new? old?) or videos (which I have never seen)?
> What's on the CD?

It is simply about 20 minutes taken directly from Fait
Accompli, which I was surprised about, seems that
there will probably not be release of that on DVD if
they are willing to highly edit it.

While on this subject, here's a real question: what is
PHIL mouthing (seemingly yelling at the woman) during
the "SAYou" video? (maybe someone here with an acute
inability to debate has a gift for lip reading?)
Not a real question would be: Is that Mike's daughter
in the "CSay" video?

- SharminHall @ aol.com
>IMHO as always

Doesn't Terry have copyright on that? Oh wait, you
were defending my demagogueness, so I shouldn’t hound
you....Merci viel mal, Miss Hall.

This segment is over; you may resume your drooling
now,
j

David, check out the thread on the webdigest for the full info

On the contents of this dvd/cd package. Or have a quick look

At the full set of scans on the www.forevernow.com site.

And for the record AG, the random caps thing is the result

Of my email program. I cant be bothered to change it, but if

It really annoys anyone, I’ll give it a shot, If it only annoys

You, well..you can figure the rest out.  ;-)

Ok, I think I've finally figured it out.  Behold my evidence that AG is, in fact,
NOT a human, but a computer program intent on bewildering the masses:

Loz, the short description you asked about is actually the HTML 'meta description' that
appears in each Digest...  makes it easier for search engines to index and match the
content against queries.

<META NAME="description" CONTENT="Level 42 Digest is a daily news email with discussion of the music, fans, concerts, recordings and items for sale of the British pop band Level 42, Mark King, Mike Lindup, Boon Gould and Phil Gould.">

Abba. Don't get me started. Actually, as my legal consultant, and coming as
you do from the land of the litigious, could you please advise whether I am
in a position to sue for mental cruelty by having the thought of the most
overrated band in the history of popular music presented to me in the
supposedly safe waters of the Level 42 Digest?

Ah, the return of the anonymous comedy creation Travis. Long time no see.

Blimey. You're implying (if that isn't too lightweight a term) that Mark
King would arrange to record with the old line-up without even bothering to
warn Gary and Lyndon in advance? Even given Mark King's history of
sledgehammer diplomacy that would take some beating. Especially since we had
Gary Husband, who I think all concurred is a thoroughly decent cove,
conceding here not so long ago that he does the Level 42 gig as much as
anything as a favour to a mate?

>One thing Jay doesnt have and that is to copy AG

He idolises me. He's never been the same since I got the restraining order
though.
