Just a quickie update on the Digest...  I've done a bit of font reformatting in an attempt to clean things
up a bit.  Have also added a section that will appear daily showing a "WEB DIGEST SUMMARY".
This is a short summary of new/updated topics that have appeared on the Level 42 Web Digest
over the previous 24 hour period.  Whether you read the WD regularly or not, you can still stay in the
loop by checking the summary via email.

Questions/comments/gripes...  on a postcard, please...

cheers,
Eric

If you've never crossed your fingers before, and thought to yourself, maybe one day i will try that - well, then Bubba - today (friday) most certainly is the day!

Keep your fingers crossed today, or as we say in Sweden. Hold your thumbs!

Thanks, Mat, I'm glad you liked it, it was fun to
produce. Thanks also to everyone for their supportive
comments, it's thrilling to get global feedback from
something you did in your bedroom . . . there are
jokes that could follow, but I eschew.

I have just sent out the glorious 42nd freebie, so
this too has come to pass, but again thanks for the
interest. I have come into contact with some amazing
digest members, and learned something of their stories
and dreams as I share mine through this CD. Suffice it
to say there are some truly generous and talented
people within the friendly confines of the L42 email
digest!

take care, and good music to you!

P.S. Hey, we need more speculation on the L42 rumor,
or is that rumour?!? I'll start: It's new material and
a new CD from Mark King, primarily done by himself at
his home studio, but made flesh on the road with Grupo
42, kind of a slick reworking of what would have been
Trash 2. We were told of Trash 2 about 6 years ago, I
believe?

Posted my cheque on Sunday from Wales and got the DVD yesterday - how fast is that eh ? With my cheque I asked if Mark could sign it and also asked when we would see some new material or maybe Trash Vol 2. Mark signed my DVD saying "I'm working on it bud..."

Whatever it is, I'd bet good money that the rumour doesn't mention Philip
Gould's name, and if it did, you would have to class it along side the
spurious sort of claims the "Sunday Sport" love to make.

Remember the words of Whitey "...no chance, I've tried to get him out..."

7.  Shapeshifter 2001 Remix
From: Lars-Ove Larsson <lazlar @ home.se>

I have now in my collection the 12" electronica/dance remix from 2001 of
Shapeshifter. It contains two different mixes both using mostly the intro
section of the original track with a lot of extra drum sounds and some
additional keys.

As usual with this sort of remix very little is left of the original but at
least the B-side maintains the spirit of the original.

I'll try to make an mp3 of the remixes soon so you'll be able to hear it for
yourselves.

8.  The Collection - a review
From: Laurence Green <laurence.green @ scottwilson.com>

I thought I'd review some of the latest Level 42 releases.

Of course, there was the much hyped 2CD 'Ultimate Collection' and 3CD 'Ultimate Collection. Which by now you'll all have.

Then the recent Dutch only reissue of the ubiquitous 'Turn It On' compilation entitled 'The Star Collection' - the worst compilation CD so far.

Now we have a compilation of excellent album tracks and a B-side (and some singles) entitled 'The Collection' - which is excellent. Nice packaging, great tracks and a very well written and almost 100% accurate liner. The best compilation for a long time.

Also we have the new DVD + CD set called 'The Collection' which MUST not be confused with 'The Collection' (see previous) because it's a totally different release, however it does have the same packaging as 'the Ultimate Collection' and the DVD is 'Level Best' with extras. Why it can't be called 'Level Best' on DVD with extras is only a minor gripe but it's there none the less.

So from the last few releases we have

Ultimate collection 2CD
Ultimate Collection 3CD
Star Collection
The Collection (compilation)
The Collection (DVD+CD set)

Notice a trend anyone?

Forthcoming releases:
The Collection 'Collectors' Edition'
The Collection + The Collection 2 CD set

Anyway, I'm off to the post office. My copy of 'The Collection' is ready for collection.

See you
