In the 80 studioperformances by
bands were mimed; i do recal an appearing from L42 at the"Tijd voor Tineke "show
but at that time Phil actually did drum live The sound of drums was at least a
couple of bars after the song finished, to make a sort of live feel. Did they do
that in more shows ?

| Yesterday, Ian Lovell wrote.... >>But the fact is that the band known as Level 42 is alive and well. If you can't accept that them maybe you're in the >>wrong digest. So that's it is it ?....anyone who doesn't agree with you shouldn't be on here ??? Your opinion is the only one that counts, is that it ?? and Travis Baker said... >>Theyre old music is ok if your into that, but most people love >>the real band now, not the trial band that the Gould twins (sorry everyone, >>I had spelt their names wrong in my other post!) were with. Ouch ! - I've never heard Level 42 described as a " Trial band " before. Let's get some FACTS straight about this. Your so-called trial band were 5 (yes 5) individually talented guys, who came together naturally to write and perform some amazing music, which is universally considered by most fans to be the peak of their artistic and creative output. Love or loathe their early stuff, but you can't by any stretch of the imagination call them a TRIAL BAND - very insulting. Anyway - what have the current incarnation created so far that is so much better than the real Level 42, Mark, Mike, Phil, Boon and Wally ??? As i've said before - it's ok to like Grupo Mark King as they are very good and it's all we've got, however you don't have to like them at the expense of the original line-up. Why not regonise the best parts of both ? It's also ok not to like the early stuff, if it isn't your cup of tea. But don't disrespect the original line up by calling them a trial band as it is simply insulting and factually incorrect by a mile. Dean | ||

' But the fact is that the band known as Level
42 is alive and well. If you can't accept that them maybe you're in the wrong
digest. '
Absolute rubbish (with
respect). In the past, people left, people joined to replace them. Now the
name has been bought by a group previously going under a different
name.
If the Rolling Stones bought
the name Level 42, I'm sure the name would be 'alive and well' (just about) -
but I've been here since 1995 talking about Level 42 - the music makers, not
whoever bought the name. Seeing as I've been accused of being on the wrong
digest - I'd like to turn the tables and suggest that we're here to follow the
people who wrote the songs, recorded the songs, performed the songs
and gained world wide fame through their hard efforts MORESO than people
who covered those songs on a couple of tours.
>>Travis Baker
OK Travis, your
obviously having a laugh. This 'new line-up' have hardly played any Level 42
music from after 1987 - in fact, I can only think of SunBed Song / Play Me.
They're good, granted, but you can't compare creation with creator. This band is
a creation of the success of Level 42 1980-1987 (no sucessful Level 42, no point
wringing every penny out of the name), MK/ML/BG/PG were the creators of Level 42
1980-1987.
Mark does right though, I'm
fully behind him. He deserves every penny he can make out of the name, and he's
doing that in the right way. He is in no way selling the fans short - I;ve
enjoyed every concert I've been to with his new line-up. But there's just no
comparisons to be made......

I found the >lead singers has a sole music called Trash, its really good. Since posts like this are usually followed by an accusation thrown in my direction, I wish to make it clear at this stage that this is NOT me being deliberately provocative for comedic effect. (Apart from anything else, nothing could persuade me to desecrate the English language to this degree.) For all I know, this is a real person who genuinely believes the above. Anything is possible. But on the assumption it is a spoof – well played sir! I particularly enjoyed the Gould 'twins'. It's details like that which raise parody like this above the standard efforts. | <For those with any inside info. How would you rate the chances of L42 coming to say NYC for a few gigs....Say Toads place again.......> When I spoke to Mark about this after the Oxford gig, he said they definitely wanted to come to NY. I think the issue is money, not desire. That being said, Toad's is in New Haven, so I think its much more likely they would do something like B.B. King's or a venue of that size... >> From: Tom Foolery <grooveyardtom @ yahoo.com> where is Gresham, anyway? what's it like? << It's a hotel in Dublin. Nice old place with more character than a Shakespearean comedy. >> Which brings to mind the last scene in the movie "Brazil" . . . this is where "GB" takes me. It's filler, in my opinion, and pretty weak at that, especially that corpse of a keyboard solo in the middle. << Are you saying that that final scene in Brazil is lame!? But, but, but, it explains the entire latter half of the movie! Originally, so the story goes, the studio execs didn't want that ending. Fortunately, they were somehow overruled. Without it, it's just some weird fantasy movie. With it, Terry Gilliam makes a statement about social justice, subtle brainwashing, and hegemony in general. >> From: jt <jtraci @ yahoo.com> far too many complete fruitcakes (like...Shakira, << Shakira has the chops (and courage) to sing live with just two guys playing acoustic guitars, and she never misses a note. She is far too talented to be lumped into the same category as most current popsters. That said, don't try to get a coherent statement out of me when the mud-writhing section of "Wherever, Whenever" is on the telly. >> From: Travis Baker <t.baker @ lancsmail.com> kiss. they have re-formed recently. << Kiss is a good example of guys blatantly milking the past. Note that their pending tour will see all four in original makeup. Not so obviously, two of the guys under said original makeup will NOT be original members. (I just had a mental flash of Gene Simmons in a mud-writhing scene. [shudder shudder]) ...Alex... | ||

| Come on you lot lets change the subject, basically Level 42 have 2 new band members because the old members don't want to play. Then They Simply replace them. It happens all the time remember GENESIS? they replaced their lead singer not once but twice! oh dear arn't they naughty! Did you say when Phil Collins joined Genesis after Peter Gabriel left that it wasnt now Genesis? of course you didnt and that was the lead singer, the whole voice of the band. The facts are band members fall by the wayside and thats up to them, you also go on about the Beatles wouldnt be the Beatles if one of them left.Well from what ive seen didnt Ringo replace Pete Best?also they had another member i carnt remember his name, but he left the band to stop in Germany with his girlfriend. If member want to let down their fans by leaving the group :- the Goulds,(who carn't face playing live again, but i still believe they will right songs for Level 42)then thats up to them,i know they both had very good reasons for leaving So what life goes on and so do Level 42. Notice I won't pick on anyone personally by disecting their e-mail word for word with >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> and trashing it. I show more respect than that. _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://messenger.msn.co.uk | ||

| I was also convinced that Mike was gay, right from '83 onwards when I first saw the band on TV, BUT, if you ever get chance to read the Michael Cowton biog of the band, you can be assured that he's 100% hetero! Not that it matters at the end of the day anyway. Nick Lauro | ||
