| >From yesterday..... >>It seems that a majority of 'On The Level' CDs become unplayable after a few years (mine's still OK) so >>someone with some clout should persuade Polydor to include the full version on the next compilation. >>Do you mean to say 'unplayable' or 'unbearable'? That's a partially serious question. Do they really become >>unplayable physically? Or are they unbearable hearing, for the most part, many of the same compilation of songs >>over and over on all the 'best of' discs? I've had 2 copies of this cd now - and both of them have become virtually unplayable due to distortion and crackle on certain tracks. I'm hunting for a decent copy now. That's what Loz meant when he said unplayable. best Dean | ||

| Anyone get the new Steely Dan album, Everything Must Go? I am sad to say that I am extremely underwhelmed by it. Most of the songs sound the same, with the same canned perky beat. And this new drummer is boring--where's Bernard Purdie, where's Rick Marotta? The last album was saved by great basslines from Tom Barney, but now he's gone too, replaced by Walter Becker who decided after all these years to go back to being the bass player. I thought Walter did a fairly good job with the bass on Kamakiriad, but on this album, he just plays like somebody's grandpa. In fact, this whole collection makes Steely Dan sound like they're ready for the nursing home. Unlike Two Against Nature, I don't think there will be any Grammys for Everything Must Go. :o( - Don Z. | ||

Hopefully Mark and the "gang" will approve of the tracks, FIRE & FREE YOUR SOUL, etc... for the new "proposed" RC re-issues. IF that doesn't happen - it would be 2 songs that could appear on this "new" Level 42 CD if it sees the light of day. Still slightly in doubt about this new L42 CD/Studio Reunion - but after a e-chat with our firned Winman - if a NY'er is sort of excited, then it must be worth a glimmer of optimism. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! MIKEY | ||
