| Wow, Live at Zurich going for over £50!!!!! I must be worth a fortune!!! It's a genuine bootleg. In other words it's an illegally manufactured CD and not something someone's cobbled together in their garage - the same as The White Funky, the same gig, just different packaging. I can't say I understand all this 'A new album isn't life or death'? Is this stating the obvious gone mad? There's not many of us here who were genuinely at death's door suffering from 'new material deficiency syndrome'. It's not life changing, but it's damn good news. On a finer note. Not much has been said about the fact that 10 years of the digest has passed. I'd like to commend Eric (First Lord of the Digest) for the digest and his good work. I'm not here to engage in social chit-chat (although I've made some excellent friends here), I joined to further my knowledge of Level 42, to share my knowledge and, through discussion, to improve my understanding. I move that the digest has been an unmitigated success. L()Z Visit our web site at www.scottwilson.com Privilege and Confidentiality Notice. Loz..’Conversations with silence’ is the piano album, and it is this album That Julian has produced. And I think that ‘Love Is the Answer’ is on this Record as well. I know is has a string section as well, so it’s not just Mike on piano, and just vocals. I guess its ‘mostly’ piano.
Oh, and your crack about the websites had me laughing my head off!!! ;-)
True fan? Anyone who purchased any music from the band, no matter how small. That’s it. If you’ve subscribed to this digest or any other, then you are ‘more’ than a fan..you are nuts. ;-)
And if you enjoy the posting of JT and AG, well…I don’t even wanna get Into that…;-)
The guy who changed his name, Anthony Phillip Hicks, was featured on a news segment by MTV. I do believe that Carl has a clip of it on his site.

Eric, that’s bootleg recording of The White Funky is now going for 51.00ukp, Which amazed me..then I realized that its ‘RARE AND UNRELEASED’. Gee, I hope I can win the bidding this late in the game. Suckers.

Hey All
Why is it we need to pigeon hole everything? I
suppose so we can discuss it and convey meaning. Also, why do we have to know
what the motivation behind every decision is?
Because the following topics of late have been
surmized or pigeon holed by some, to my disagreement, I would like
to offer my perspective.
MarkyBaby
I understand how some people may think the current
lineup is a sell out. Don't go, don't listen. Surely this viewpoint cannot
be suggesting "Mark must stay at home and do nothing because I
disapprove". Why is Mark doing it? Who cares; go or don't go. If you don't
like what he is doing don't buy it. I cannot believe the sole reason
for any Level 42 endeavour is money.
New Original Lineup
Material
Again, for any fan on any level (no pun intended)
this is wonderful news. I have no doubt there will be at least some
fantastic tracks, if not another classic album. I'm not suggesting
I'm against speculation, that's part of what this forum is all about. It
just seems that most of it is negative or cynical. I can't wait to here
news sounds from one of my all time favourite bands.
If I lived in the UK or Europe, and touring was
relevant for me, I think I would be ecstatic that I could basically chose
when I want to see the band. You should consider yourselves lucky to at
least have that option. Since the only time I have seen Level 42 was in 1986,
and while I agree the current lineup is not my preference, I would still go, if
for no other reason to admire one of the best bassists I know, not to
mention the writer/singer of some of my best loved tunes. Stop living in a
principled dream world. Idealollogy was supposed to be matured
from.
The quality of life argument is just
silly. I believe music is necessary (just look at every society that
ever existed and they all created original music and instruments - for
those of you who must know why to everything, why don't you ask yourself
why this is the case?). Of course the quality of life is vastly enhanced
with music and all art, for that matter. Are we not beings of
creation? Is that not one of the greatest attributes of
humanity?
As you know, being the highly evolved emotional lot
we are, music conveys emotion. If this does not affect you, then I guess
you are a lean, mean, killing machine; the duality of man does not apply to
you.
I will always hold Why Are You Leaving dear.
On the surface this may appear to be a sad love song. However, the
brilliant lyrics provide insight into a trouble relationship with a
positive commitment of true love. I suppose I'm a hopeless
romantic at heart, but I believe in true love and think it is the greatest thing
one can take from this life. The music, although not as challenging to
play as other material, is remarkably pleasant to my ears. The subtlety
is perfectly matched to the lyrics. Then we have the vocal harmonics,
(something that when done well, makes any song more pleasurable) and that killer
sax line. I knowing the song exists and imagining a life without it
does not please me. I would therefore conclude this song (for one) has
enhanced the quality of my life as it has repeatedly provided me with
pleasure and reinforced my personal beliefs.
The True Fan
When I started out here on the digest, not so long
ago compared to a lot of you, I did hold the silly belief that the true fan
would not criticize Guaranteed the way it had been. Discussion
made me realize "true fan" is a subjective, relative term.
My current position on true fans is that there are
some here. Of course, we are all on this digest for varied
reasons. There is probably a common admiration for Level 42. This
make us all fans, true fans, regardless of our specific viewpoints on each song
or album.
I believe though, there are few "true" fans
here. To me, the true fan is the one who spreads the gospel. with
initially 1200 digesters and now about 600, I am saddened at the
availability of Level 42 live shows, demos, unreleased material,
etc. I would hope that with this small community it would be a little
easier to obtain and enjoy this material. Unfortunately, there is a
lot of material out there that is difficult to obtain for many of us.
I think the digest offerings have been superb. Ronald (and many others who
I don't know - e.g. dreams and visions, gillingham, etc.) I can't thank
enough. Why though, is there this underground community of privileged
"true fans"? Don't get me wrong, I am eternally thankful to those who have
shared. I just would hope that we can all enjoy whatever it is we would like to,
from whatever is available. Maybe there are copyright laws I don't
appreciate. Anyway, I have some stuff I'm willing to share. I have
time constraints with my kids and everything, but would like to help others out
who are looking for material. So email me and maybe I can help. Of course,
I am always receptive to new material myself.
I would like to see this community of
true fans more openly share the music of one of our all time favourite
bands.

| Non-level question--sorry, but I need Brits for this, and The Digest is where I find them.... ;o) Question: Have there been more than four episodes of Foyle's War? Over here in the US, we just got the 4, but the DVD set is listed as "Series 1", which suggests that there will be more. Cheers - Don Z. | ||

| "I am disappointed, however, that you didn't specify which day (exactly) that _Signals_ was released." Yes, I am indeed in need of a good shoeing for not being able to pinpoint the exact day "Signals" was released. However, I can redeem my shortcomings somewhat, by letting all interested parties know, that on the day of release, I did travel with a friend of mine who also happened to be an avid Rush fan, over to a major Liverpool record store and witness him purchasing the aforesaid vinyl. We then went back to his house and analysed the contents for all the latest Peart tricks for the entire afternoon. Why didn't I buy it? Well he was a couple of years older than me and got more pocket money and besides that, I knew I could tape it off his new copy! Oh yes, those were the days, all vinyl, no CD's, lot's of static 'n' surface noise, Dolby B.... Very sad teenagers. | ||

Did anyone else
catch this in the Marketplace?
Greatest
Hits Lives
I've not seen this
one before, and from the Amazon listing, it was released on
May 19th, 2003 on
the "Superior" label. Was there a fire sale on Level 42
media
licenses or
something??! Seems to be about 3x as many compilations as there
were original
albums! (which seems a bit 'out of whack', huh??)
