If copies of Trash 2 and/or 3 are floating around, and some digest members
somehow own these copies, then I'm sure they're not going to own up to it
for various reasons. It's an age old debate on this digest, and it looks
as though it's going to rear it's ugly head again.

If MK wants us to hear it then he'll release it via his website, but that's
not going to happen now he's "re-formed" L42. So let's just accept it and
move on. The privilaged few will have to remain that way.

Steve

>I see the current L42 situation

Yeah. Back then I felt like I held the moral high-ground. Level 42 were cool, the music was solid gold, I had the mind-set that no-matter what band anyone else liked, they probably weren't producing the cool sounds the Mark Mike and Phil were. Having only one of those guys on the 80s revival circuit doesn't bring about any of those feelings at all. Quite the opposite. Still; I'm still here - the music was SO good, it's still worth talking about.

Well, I'm still here! Those were the days, grafting away on my degree,
looking forward to the digest arriving in my email everyday to kill the
boredom of studying.

I remember the stunned silence from the US digesters upon hearing that the
band had broken up..............Forever Now, is that an album or
something??????......oh yeah, it's been out for months, buying up cd's for
stateside fans and sending them off...............

Eight years down the line.........where the hell did 8 years go????

And the very best part is that now I have a Mike Lindup signed customs declaration on my package!  A Level 42 souviner for the hardcore collector (what do you think Loz?  Maybe even better than the longbox!).

certainly there are other fans (subscribers even) who are way past this...  thumb tape,
cigarette butts, old sneakers, empty pet food tins, etc.

I guess the limited edition part of the album stems from the fact that there are 11 tracks instead of the standard 10.

Was there actually a NON-limited edition of this Changes without the extra track?  (maybe the vinyl/tape version, if they ever existed?)

Loz, I've got to hand it to you...  you are truly a man on a mission, and like the Terminator, you WILL NOT STOP until your mission is complete!  God bless you.

I think all in all we achieved quite a lot -
must have discussed every little nuance of
everything remotely to do with Level 42. There's a
few questions unanswered I suppose.
True, but I'm still wondering what it is that Mark says at the end of the SAY video...??

MESSAGE BOARDS
SECTION:  LEVEL 42
SUB-SECTION:  "Where the hell is the new album"

Okay, let see what everybody thinks about this question.

Mark King bought, obtained the rights for the name Level 42, and is performing under this name for what reason:

a) To continue where the band left off in 1994, to create and experiment with new music, and develop more of his fan base, as well as, do he things he could not do in Level 42.  "Wanting to go further".

b) To profit (and continue to profit) off of the work that he and other previously created during the run of the 'old' Level 42 - to provide a more secure future financially for himself and his family.  "Wanting to live in the past".

c) To "piss-off" those Level 42 loyalist who think that the old 4-piece group is sacred and must not be changed in any way and that Mark is doing this out of spite towards the Gould brothers.  "Wanting to irritate Loz and the like minded digesters".

d) Was extremely bored at home "Tired of dusting and getting in Ria's way".

e) All of the above.

f) None of the above and you come up with his reasoning then!

Lolita wrote in yesterday's digest:
"I will not thoroughly dissect Mikey's choices, because I know a bunch of
others will do that for me. I will point out what I feel are the strongest
and weakest.  I have always been a huge fan of The Machine Stops - particularly the end
where he is smoking on the bass. The mix is so trebly that people don't
really realize how great it is. It would likely be fantastic live. Two
Hearts Collide on the other hand strikes me as a song that is just there.
No strong bass part, way too syrupy and likely not a good live song.
I guess I am an oldtimer - been here since '95. Eight years! I'm off to
take out my false teeth now...
Lolita"
(END)
Lolita, thanks for replying to my posts, I am still waiting for enormous praises or heavy critique of what I posted - which then leads to Lolota, if MK asked you:

"Lolita, MK here, I have decide that since you have been on the digest for 8 years and before you take those teeth out - tell me which tracks I should play and WHY I should play them!"

This should be good!

The official name of the "longbox" here in the US was the Security Box, so called because its size was supposed to deter theft.  Retailers also liked them because they could fit two, side by side, in the same slot where LP's used to go, thereby saving money on store fixtures.

But the environmental movement considered them wasteful of paper as well as something to fill up landfills unecessarily, and so pressured the record industry to stop using them.  The plastic caddies then came in to use by record stores as a temporary solution until store fixtures eventually were replaced, but you still see them some places.

That's an understatement if I ever heard one!  I remember Loz's first post as well and from then on, everytime I saw his name in the topics listed - I always assumed a fight was on its way.  I thought to myself "Who is this punk?" and then realized that he's about as HARDCORE a fan as there is.  I thought I was nutty about this band, but Loz took the cake!  Besides, I was jealous for a time considering his access to all things L42 at the time.  With the exception of 1985-1989, you couldn't find anything L42 related or anyone who knew who the hell they were around where I live.

Water long gone under any bridge now, but my fingers started typing a response before I could even get a thought together when I read the word "brouhaha"!

There seems to be a little friendly "I was here first" going on, which got me thinking...when the hell did we all get here?  As far as I can remember I made it here sometime around Aug. '95.  (Less than 200 members then if I remember right)

Here's an idea that maybe too much to handle in terms of time, webspace and giving a rat's a**, but has there ever been a directory of members?  Kind of like a cyber-yearbook with a photo of the member (if they wish) and a short something about them.  Things like their first Level42 experience, favorite album, favorite band member.  I'm thinking a simple page template where members can post the photo themselves and edit their bio info.  Something really short and sweet.  Some of you have met each other, but there are many of us who haven't.  (For example - I've met only ONE person face-to-face from this list.)

I think it would be interesting.  Even fun.

How about the rest of you?

Cheers!
