It was a fantastic show (duh), and they did something like three encores while looking amazed at the fabulous reception we gave them. But I can't recall the date of the show. Anybody remember? ...Alex... ---------------------- Alex, they played 2 dates at Massey Hall in Toronto - 23rd & 24th April 1986. I have a rather cool pic of them signing stuff with a poster for the shows behind them: http://level42.150m.com/tickets/masseyhallpic.jpg Glyn.

Eric, in all seriousness, sincere thanks for making me laugh, it's been a shiite (look kids, fun with geography!) day, with, seemingly, no end... Chief Hanson >I don't disagree, but I'm curious to > know what the basis is for your supposition (other > than wanton speculation!) Yeah, tension is always created by TWO forces. > A message from Jakko.... > Michael Payne Thanks for sharing your letter with us, Mike. I found this part VERY interesting: > "....Actually Mark asked me to guest at the Albert > Hall show last year. He was going to get Mike and > Boon to play too. However as it got nearer **he went > off the idea** and it didn't happen (empha sis (**) mine) Could this very well negate the whole theory that gets flogged around so much that "MK tried to get the Mike, (and/or) Boon, (and/or) Phil back together, but they didn't want to..." Hmmmmmmm.... Every week that passes I realize more and more that MK is either a Complete Wanker and/or a fantastically weird chap with the business & courtesy sense of a 10-year old. >he is just an honest, > sincere, decent guitar man who can sing some cool > tunes and is truly awesome to meet in person, > definitely fame did not go to this man's head! And don't forget the King of Over-Acting in L42 videos!! ;) > It does trouble me though, to see the members in a > band that a large majority on this digest and the > web-digest support no matter who the hell is in it, > to see them NOT feel comfortable posting and > replying to our posts or adding their own thoughts > and comments directly. Very good points. I can't think of any open forum that has it's band memebers freely post, though. Fripp, Ade and TLev did some stuff on the Discipline list, but then stopped. Now they all have their official sites in which they do interact. I think that forum is more of a 'safe' (for lack of a better word) method for these guys. On a list like this we sometimes get off track and sometimes just banter about. Kinda like on Marucs Miller's site (who is excellent abotu chekcing in and answering questions), noone is ever (well, rarely) gonna go on there is ask if the keyboardist is gay, and such. I also think a guy like Gary wont/kinda can't openly post is that we, of course, would ask him what the rolling donut is going on with the band, and since Gary is a stand up guy, he would tell the truth, or be obliged to not answer, therefore making MK a complete clown cuz he can't/wont come clean with even a hint of truth. ok, j __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? My expert knowledge of human behavior, of course! ;o) Just from everything I've read and heard from the two of them in interviews over the years. It seems to me that Phil is the one with the problem. Mark holds all the cards, so it seems natural that his attitude would be "Hey, if Phil wants to play along, that's great. But, if he doesn't, then it's no skin off my nose." Jerry Rehn wrote: >Nice to see the digest still up and running! Actually, I collected pics from 10 people (including myself) and compiled a CD. Unfortunately, the freeware viewer I installed didn't work, and Winston complained that the pics were too small because he runs his monitor at super-high res (mine is still a reasonable 800x600 @ 17"). But I can burn copies for anyone who wants 'em. Cheers - Z.

| As there are some here that do not hop over to the Web Digest, this tasty nugget just made a 19-hour work day a litle bit better, this is taken (without permission, sorry Lisa, hope you don't mind) from a post by the woman who does Phil Gould's website: " yes there are lots of things happening and I can tell you that phil is very busy at the moment in the studio recording some new material. hence quote... "I have one thing finished and a number of things on the go - Phil " " No mention of his weight, though. ;) Also, to add someehting to one of those fantasy threads, a good tune for MK to cover would be "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour, nice and aggressive (turn it up to 11) and the bass line would be tasty to slap. j __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? For an as-close-as-you're-going-to-get history lesson on this subject, I would implore people who haven't read the book, to try and get their hands on Michael Cowton's Level 42 biog IF they can. It's out of print I'm afraid. But this will give you an insight on how things progressed up to the Gould's departure. The pages seem to reveal that Mark & Phil had to spend the time they did together in the band to eventually find out that although they worked well together as musicians, their individual reasons for playing music together would grow in ideologically different ways. thedrumdoctor | ||

| Eric, thanks for the links to the pics and keeping this forum up and running. It's nice to be back. Winston - there's a familiar name! Nice to hear from you and I appreciate you taking the time to look through your pics. I knew if you were still out there that you'd have some photos. Old news probably, but what happened to your webpage? Lolita - another familiar name! Nice to see you on here as well. Thanks for checking your pics and for the nice words about the shirt. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it in public and has even turned a few curious people on to the band in the process. Glyn, you're right about the location of the LevelFest event that year. I just made reference to London because I knew it would separate that LF from the others that took place in locations like Texas, Seattle, Denver and Los Angeles. The IOW date was especially important due to MK's appearance. Thanks for pointing that date out. Hopefully you'll get enough photos to add to your page as well. By the way, do you all realize that it will have been 5 years since that event in May? I remember all of the planning of that event like it was yesterday. Time really flies! I know there are many others out there that I'll recognize over time. It will be nice to hear from all of you. Now, about Phil. Wow! I would have never recognized the man, if not for the glasses. Definitely added a few pounds. Doesn't look bad, just different. Really different. Since I've been away, I've noticed a lot of changes in the amount of webpages that have come and gone with regard to our boys. I want to tell the webmasters for all of them - excellent job! Too bad it took so many years following the breakup of the band to have this kind of dedication. Although I can't say that it would have helped them stay together. Something much deeper there. Having said that, I hope that these guys appreciate everything that you all are doing on their behalf. Like so many bands of their time, they could have literally disappeared from the face of the earth once they split. You all have literally kept them afloat in my opinon, regardless of their immense talents. Cheers to everyone! Excellent work!! - Jerry | ||

I tried to find my stub, but my collection
stopped at 1985. I'm sure I have it somewhere.
I believe it was May
1986. This was the first time I
heard Children Say. I think they played one or two other tunes from RITF
as well. I was really amazed at how much energy they exuded. I went
together with my wife, who was not expecting much really. She's been
a fan ever since. She looks back fondly on that show as being
awesome.
