useless kind of
discussion...
having grown up with
the "real" / original level 42,
looking fwd to every
new album and tour for almost
a decade, there is
definitely something special about
the original cast.
mike, mark, boon and phil all developed
their very
individual style, which one may like or dislike.
whatever the
opinion, it was their own. hence, the combined
result - level 42 -
was also unique.
I personally think
that phil's drumming is unmatched.
beyond comparison.
not so much for the technical skills,
but simply because I
like his groovy style. HIS style.
gary husband is
another drummer. he's quite good,
modest and likeable
- but he is not phil gould.
I would have some
difficulties in seeing other people
than the original
cast play level songs, without thinking
of them as a cover
band. and as such, they should develop
their own style -
not try and be "almost" the real thing.

Agree. Although I can't really comment on the Indonesia publicity, (or lack of), there has been very little about the Ultimate Tour in the UK. Mind you, I read NME and I can't see Level 42 putting an ad in there. Perhaps we'll see a quarter page ad in the fantastic Mail on Sunday supplements over the coming months - that'll get the punters in. OK, so we've got a poster floating around for the 03 tour, but it's exactly the same as last years except they seem to have run out of red ink at the printers. >Level 42: the Heaven's Gate of music? Come now, at least Heaven's Gate had Kris Kristofferson in it. What a man and what a beard! There are no beards in L42. Boon toyed with the idea didn't he, but it was a long way off matching Mr Kristofferson's. Mind you, Mike's tache in the early days was a beauty! some new arrangements of old tunes (I slightly twisted the arm of a mate to come
along to Colston Hall last year and his one critisism was that he remembered the
last time they were there (before breakup) and he thought it was almost like a
reply - well almost, anyway. And I had to agree with him).

If I remember correctly,
Nigel Kennedy worked with Level 42 on a Princes Trust concert - I don't remember
the year, but I do remember they performed a brilliant instrumental version
of Gershwin's 'Summertime'. I
had it on video for a while, but have sadly lost it. Mica Paris was also
in the line-up.

| Someone once said.....
"what Level 42 would you want to be stuck with?" (on a desert island) I would be stuck with Phil Gould, no, make that Gary Husband... no Phil Gould, no Gary Husband... oh bugger it, can I have Gavin Harrison on the island, he plays that bass drum too quick and too hard, and he doesn't sound like Gary Husband or Phil Gould, but he plays Level 42..... isn't that a coincidence. Wow, now there's a thought... another drummer.... where will this all end ? Oh, you didn't mean Level 42 person ! You didn't make it clear. Ok, why on earth would i want to be stuck on a desert island ? The only thing I'd take with me is my level 42 speedboat and a pair of Mike Lindup leopard skin trousers to help get spotted by the odd passing satellite. Eric W Ok, why on earth would i want to be stuck on a desert island,

| HI Don... I enjoyed you and Win as the admins of the webdigest, but must say that the new lady is doing a splendid job... Now about the cussing....gee, I didn't think I was asking too much? :-) Thanks to everyone for toning down the language. I have noticed, as of late, how the post have become reader friendly (!) again. I've always enjoyed the digest and the wonderful dialogue between the community members. If I decided to leave, it would've been with a sorrowful heart, but I have thus decided to remain, (can I hear an 'amen' somebody :-) ). Level 42 still remains to be the best group I've ever known. And what better place to discuss them but here and the webdigest. I still consider it a privilege to be a fan of this amazing group and a part of such a lively community such as this!!! Subject: Different Subject Matter I think the whole slanging match thing has gone too
far.
Too much swearing and apathy over these pages,
surely there's some other subject matter worth talking about, for
example:
Whilst in the process of getting very drunk on
Saturday evening I fell over scuffed my new Ben Sherman shoes and spilt the
contents of perfectly lovely large glass of Chivas Regal I'd just
poured myself on my new bass, brought for me by my lovelly wife for my 30th
birthday which has left a sticky stain on the fretboard and has anybody mailed
me to give me sympathy?...NO!!!
In the words of the great philosopher Mr Jerry
Springer:
"Be good to yourself, and each other"......or words
to that effect.
Best,
Matt | ||
