I believe Gary Husband states his primary instrument as piano, as it said in the blurb for his jazz trio gig in Cambridge. ------------------------------ Subject: Y-Chromo Promo From: "Phil Jarvis" Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 13:21:19 Hi Guys, Just a reminder to tune into Robbie Vincents Jazz FM show on Sunday (102.2FM) and guve us some support. You can't have both. >Not unless you're a hunan oxymoron. Are you calling me a stupid Chinese bovine? ********** >From: "Fotos, Asha D. I particularly like the >e.g.. "Circle the one that doesn't belong") that most of us went through as kiddies. >just what is it that makes one "colored"? The absence of a "u." Har har har. Try not to injure yourselves laughing. >The fact of the matter is that it really doesn't matter. I'm with you all the way. ********** >Subject: Ooga Booga, me play drums. Ugh! >From: "James R Sutton" > >>>Gary is such a musical drummer and because he is also a pianist, >>>it is completely understandable. >> >>Yeah, 'cause, y'know, a drummer can't be musical just by being a drummer. >>Gee, it's a good thing none of us have any biases or preconceived, poorly >>thought out ideas. Or am I being too sensitive? > >Yes you're being way too sensitive. Okay, okay already! >I don't care what ANYONE says, a drummer who has played a >melodic instrument is going to have more of an understanding and >awareness of the members of the band they're playing in. Period. I can't say that I've seen any tangible evidence of this theory, but I have to agree based simply on personal experience. I wonder if drummers such as Neil Peart, Vinnie Collaiuta, and Manu Kache play melodic instruments. >Do you think Mark would >play bass the way he does if he hadn't been a drummer first? No, definitely not. I'm convinced he wouldn't. When I do my ultra-cheezy Mark King impression on bass, I just play paradiddles and triplets between left hand damping and right thumb slapping on open E. People are amazed at the speed and percussiveness, which is hilarious 'cause I have almost no clue about proper bass technique. >Now this is not to say that drummers >who don't play a melodic instrument are any less of a player. That's >rediculous, I would never intend that and I'm sorry if I came across >wrong. I was merely reacting to what I perceived as an extreme view. No offense intended. >>How many people in my band? Five: three musicians, a singer, >>and a drummer. >Now that's comedy! Did you hear about the guitar player who showed up to the gig and realized that he'd locked his keys in the car? It took them two hours to get the drummer out! ********** >From: "Nigel Collier" > >>Gee, it's a good thing none of us have any biases or preconceived, poorly >>thought out ideas. Or am I being too sensitive? > >No, just far too sarcastic. Way to discourage people posting, well done. Damn! It didn't work for you or AG or Asha or James. You'll note that my note prompted a plethora of responses. But I promise to try harder next time. ...Alex... "...my boyhood extrapolation..." ------------------------------ Subject: Another song available on Boon's site. From: Lars-Ove Larsson Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 22:14:48 +0200 Ok, here it is. There is a new page on Boon's site which will over time feature a whole bunch of previously unavailable songs. The first track is up there now, and in my opinion it's a very strong one that could easily have fit on one of the albums. For some reason it didn't make it, but now it's available thru' the site for free. I will be making mock cd single covers for each of the tracks and this one features my daughter Mira as a stamp. As always the address is http://www.boongould.com Let us know what you think of it. Lars webmaster @ boongould.com p.s. The site has now found a new home on a permanent server, after a few months of gipsy life. Costly, but permanent. Thanks again to Russ for hosting bg.com for the first months.
