Something about "working all this overtime...what's been done I can't repair." I've been running a cross-reference search using those lyrics, but have not been able to come up with an album. Has Level 42 done any song with those lyrics? << Yep they have. On the album "Guaranteed". There are also some singles: 12" Overtime (lorimer mix) RCA PT44998 CDS Overtime (live) RCA PD45012 7" Overtime RCA PB44997 CDS Overtime RCA PD44998 Cheers, Walter ------------------------------ Subject: Everybody on the 1 From: richard.west @ westsig.co.uk Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 13:16:45 +0000 >From: Mysterio71 @ aol.com >How cool of a bass line is "To Be With You Again?" >It's fantastic! >I'm not sure if my fingers work that fast! I did not make a throw-away comment. If that were the case, then why do we all have a voice & free speech? I come from a Baptist background (welsh chapel) and my God-fearing grandmother was not offended by my seasonal debate (and neither, after all my worrying, was my evangelical sister-in-law). I did,in fact, receive very positive feed-back both through the Digest and through personal email-all very pleasant and without malice. My manager at work is a Muslim and we had good discussions over the festive season (her Ramadan) regarding the true meaning of christmas. She has pointed out (as have other "true christians") that our christmas bears absolutely no relation to Christs' birth. The entire way we celebrate christmas has evolved from pagan celebration - another point made by two of my Jehovahs Witness friends. Had you read my later mailings you would have guessed that I was merely trying to change the subject and put a little light on the subject. I have many friends and relations who practice different kinds of religions - which I respect entirely. It is a shame that sometimes that respect is not returned to people like myself who have not yet received their "calling" and maybe would like to discuss various opinions. I have been assured by many that I have not at all offended, but of course there are bound to be others who have been, it is to those that I give my sincere apologies. I myself find it more offensive (and I will say this for the last time) when people take it upon themselves to slag off other nations just because they are foreign, and maybe have different beliefs to themselves. I will agree to other comments regarding the Digest. It is okay to talk about other things than a now defunct band. We all agree that they were a fantastic, talented band and it was a sorry day when they called it a day. However, there is only so much L42 you can talk about - and as it has been pointed out - we have all been drawn together through the internet and have hopefully a little more in common to talk about. I just wanted it to be kept a little lighter!! Sorry this is a long message, I will probably have a little more backlash. (I was recently advised by a very kind Digester not to get into anymore discussions,as there are some very sad & more knowledgeable people out there). But I really wanted a proper end to it. Peace to all, (if you believe it exists) Lozzie xxxx ------------------------------ Subject: Beating the drum of a different tune... From: "LaBossiere, David" Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 09:17:40 -0800 Hello All, I hardly ever post since I spend all my time ruminating AG's delightful banter-(how'd I do with that one?) Oh well, I'll leave those posts to AG and others who tickle my funny bone. Many times we've heard threads about what is the hardest song to play on bass. As I was driving over to the train station this morning, I was once again enjoying the reissues. I was so enjoying Phil's drumming on the Level 42 reissues. I wondered, especially since I'm not a drummer, which L42 song would be categorized as the hardest song to play on drums. Any thoughts from those who beat it every so often? From: mike w Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 12:05:37 -0800 (PST) Thank you for the info on "Overtime" and the album, "Guaranteed." I suppose for some of you that was a "duh" question....but you have to keep in mind that I only own "Running in the Family" and "Level Best." In fact, I just joined this list yesterday to find out more about the group, and that song at the grocery store really piqued my interest. I kept thinking, "Man, that really sounds like Mark King...." I guess my next question is, "How do I get "Guaranteed"?" I am having a hard time finding it at online stores. Has it been discontinued? I appreciate your feedback. This seems like a nice newsgroup. Some groups have members that would insult me and say, "Look it up in the archives." Thanks for your patience. Another rare live song has surfaced from John Money's recording of the Venue Victoria! This time it is Theme To Margaret (realaudio). And in other great news, Stuart Clayton's Level 42 Bass Book is now available! Several examples of Stu's work have been in the TABLATURE section for ages, but now he has been given permission to publish the book himself! Details on the Latest News page. A drummer myself, I am actually astounded sometimes at his > drumming prowess. I really enjoy the drums on Trash. I was curious as > to whether anyone out there has seen Mark play drums live and what > kind of drums he plays on. Does he play traditional or matched grip? I read somewhere years ago that Mark King started out as a drummer, and his main influence as a drummer is Billy Cobham. Or was it Lenny White? Anyway, it shouldn't be a surprise that he can play drums because his style of bass-playing is so percussive. As far as matched vs. traditional grip, I would assume that he plays matched grip because only Blackwatch -type military drummers and old-time jazz drummers use traditional grip. > Do you people who are posting things like "Talk about level 42 only" are > just as bad as everyone else????? Sorry Brian, but I haven't noticed that you pointed that out before. You do make a good point about this digest being made up of so-called "friends" who share a common interest in Level 42. That is true, but all of the posts regarding religion and warfare could scare the hell out of someone just looking for info on how to obtain a rare CD or memorabilia. > How cool of a bass line is "To Be With You Again?" Where exactly have you been conducting this search? At the local Best Buy? Good luck finding it there! > Has Level 42 done any song with those lyrics? Yes, the song is titled "Overtime", and it is on the "Guaranteed" album from around 1991 or 92. It's OOP (out-of-print) at least here in the USA, but you can still find it on Ebay, or you can find the Japanese re-issue online at Audiophile Imports. Despite what others on this digest might tell you, it's an excellent post-Gould brothers and post-jazz/funk effort. Also features Allan Holdsworth on guitar!
