Look, it's really simple - this is a Level 42 Digest.
It's not for discussing Metalica.
Pete, regarding the adhesive tape on the thumbs, I've never seen anyone but MK
use
it. I could never get any to stay on for long enough, without using glue, and
then
I had to cut it off afterwards. I liked the sound, and I didn't get that bone
bruise, but the skin got irritated, and finally, drunk, I cut myself, much to
the
amusement of the rest of the band who thought I was a tart for using it anyway.
Now I use Arnica ;-)
Say what about merging these two paragraphs and using metallic adhesive tape?

Of course.
[2112/(42+4+2)]-2
Looks better as (42+2)x(42+4+2)=2112

From: "Funky T"

Hey y'all,
Just replying to Don Z's post
regarding the origins of funk bass.
While it is true that Larry Graham
was indeed the first electric bassist to pop, pluck and slap, I believe that the
honors for the musician who first applied the "funk bass" technique to
the acoustic bass goes to a gentleman by the name of Slam Stewart.
The above information was supplied by
none other than Daryl Jones, former bassist for Miles Davis and Sting, current
(?) tour bassist for The Rolling Stones and a heck of a funk bassist himself. If
anyone has the original article/interview where Daryl stated this (could have
been from Guitar World, Bass Player or Musician magazine), please hit me with da
specific issue info. Thanx. Peace y'all.

Subject: Calling all Aussie digesters
From: Lolitaj @ aol.com

The Lolita Jackson Millennial World Tour is coming to the South Pacific. I
will be going to Australia, New Zealand, Moorea and Hawaii for three weeks in
April [1st-19th]. I know that there are some Sydneysiders on the digest and
I would like to hook up with you guys for a good old fashioned Levelfest. I
believe Jeff Mahoney's birthday is April 6th, which is a Friday, and I will
actually be in Sydney that day; maybe we can get together at some point that
weekend. If anybody is in contact with Rebecca Johnson, please ask her for
her availability as well - I would love to meet her! Please e-mail me
privately about this and we will get it going.
I am also putting the call out to anybody who lives on the South Island of
New Zealand [Christchurch, Cairn or Queen's Town], Maui or Honolulu, but I
don't think there are any digesters in those places. If there are, please
drop me a line.

Would this be the tour when Michael Bolton introduced him on stage as "the
greatest sax player in the world today", when just across London at Ronnie
Scott's Bob Berg was playing a residency?

From: "Desmond Lynch"
Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 20:09:42 -0000
Hi Guys
Just heard the BMR remix, and it is a bit of a shock to the system with all
those sample stabs, but hey, it is OK, ( could have been a whole lot worse
if they had chosen to remix META**CA...LOL!)
This is the only Realistic chance we are going to have to Drive our boys
back into the Charts, even if it has been mucked around with, So I urge you
all to jump on the bandwagon and support it.
If it means we can influence the kids who may like this Mix of the song, to
get into the back catalogue of 42, buy the remasters, and listen to the
propper Mixes with Phil's Drum sound it will be thoroughly worthwhile.
Might even teach the Poxy Boy bands a lesson if it gets top 10, we can pull
more digesters, and Loz would have another Video to collect!!!
Lets not get negative, if you don't like the remix, we have the originals to
listen to, but I would rather listen to a short sample of Starchild on the
radio, than anything by Westlife, S Club 7, the spice girls, ....Get My
Drift?

Hi there
I have this track on a gold video/cd and was wondering as to whether anyone
knows if it is a rare item and worth anything. It was bought way way back in
the 80's and was one of the first ever video/cd's released (apparantly).
Please make me feel like an old biddy on the Antiques Roadshow, 'Gosh is it
really worth that much, Oh I'd never sell it, it's been in the family for 4
generations', Yeah right!

Well, I'm just having a listen to a couple of Vail Johnson
tracks available on the big Nap. There's a couple of tracks
where the sound is SO much like MK!
Anyway, sorry for the confusion, Winston. Your name was
part of Ed Bilson's reply, and Ed's message included the
mention of Vail J. But you, and others, should check him
out. Not every track available through Nap is a gem, to be
sure, but there's a couple that are outstanding.
Unfortunately, most of them don't have a name -- only a
track #.

From: Mikep3099 @ aol.com

Hey everybody,
Hoping to get away from all the metal bashing, back biting that has been
going on recently I'd like to go back a few days to the subject of the rare
collaborations like charity singles that Mark and the other band members have
been involved with through the years.
I know that Music Relief and Ferry Aide were mentioned recently but is
there a resource on the net that has ALL of these sort of appearances listed?
If there is I don't know about it. Lazlo's discog was woefully out dated the
last time that I visited it. Do you think that we could start compiling a new
list of things not known about until recently by the majority of the fans and
collectors?
Examples are the Ferry Aid and Music relief singles, the Nightcatchers
production credit, the System remix, compilations containing select live
tracks etc. Was Mark or any of the band involved in the Rock against
Repatriation single? And this other single that everyone thought Erik was
referring to Ferry Aid about but it seems there is another item that many of
us didn't know existed.
I know that some people have mentioned some of these things in passing but
few details have been offered up such as release yr. label and other
specifics.
Maybe Carl could start compiling a list of stuff mentioned on the Digest
and people could just post with their additions. Sorry to blind side you and
offer you up to host this Carl. It is just a suggestion and your site seems
to be one the most visited ones and is still currently up.
I'll start out by offering the following items.
I have a VERY, VERY poor copy of Mark performing in the backing band behind
Stewart Copeland of the Police at some UK comedy charity event. They are
performing Stew's Solo/ Klark Kent song Love Lessons. Nik Kershaw is playing
guitar as is Stewart. Mark on bass of course and backing vox, he just goes
nuts on a Status headless bass at the end. It looks like Rowan Atkison aka
MR. Bean on tambourine and kazoo as well as Mark B. of Big Country on drums.
Mark B. also played on some of the stuff Mark K. did with Midge Ure.
There is also the Ferry Aid video that features Mark King at the beginning.
I have this but, again, in VERY poor quality.
Was Mark or anyone from the band involved in the GOSH charity single that
benefited the Great Ormond Street Hospital back in the mid 80's?
What's the deal with the Pink Rhythm record that Mark played on?
Was there an official CD released with any of Mark's stuff from the Night
Of The Proms shows? If so, where can you get it?
Does anyone know anything about an Ohne Filter Extra comp CD with Mark
playing One Man live on it?
These are the sorts of things that I'm talking about.
On another subject, I can't believe that there hasn't been more discussion
about the 3/4 Level 42 reunion that took place at Phil's house some time back
and the track that is posted at Boon's web site of them doing Haunted House
for the 1st time in almost 20 yrs. Phil is still Mr. Smooth, falling off the
back of the beat or I guess that I should say *almost* falling off. He truly
is the Groove Regulator. Man it's great to hear him again. Thanks Lars!
Well, I guess that's it. Come on now folks, I know some of you out there
have some info to share re. the rarities thing. Do tell.
While I'm at it. Does anyone know where I might could find an original copy
of the To Be With You Again CD single or the Keep Movin' On compilation CD
that has the dancefloor mix of Wings of Love on it.
Looking forward to the IOW DVD and hoping that it is still gonna happen.
Peace,
Mike

Boon's new album. So if you haven't heard the album yet - go to the site
