From: "Eric J. Hansen" Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2001 15:32:15 GMT Hi folks -- just a heads up to announce that I'll be pulling the plug on the Level 42 Digest some time in the next few days. You are all welcome to continue to post messages, but I will probably shut it down on Wednesday Sep 26th (so 6am of the 26th will be the last mailing.) So if you haven't already done so, go visit the new Web Digest at: http://www2.worldmachine.com/level42 Up, up and away! thanks, -- Eric J. Hansen Worldmachine Technologies Corporation http://www.worldmachine.com tel: (617) 331-1764, fax: (617) 249-0437 ------------------------------ Subject: Mr Wonderful From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2001 22:02:07 +0100 I dozed off on the sofa last night and woke up just as the Tribute to Heroes concert was beginning (2am over here). Lethargy kept me from rousing myself for long enough to see Stevie Wonder's devastating performance of Love's In Need Of Love Today, a wondrous and poignant enough song in itself without Take 6's delicious harmonies in addition. In a period when many amongst us are surely wondering how a benevolent God could allow such acts to pass, I find myself wondering simultaneously how artistry of such affecting, aching beauty could possibly come from man alone. I offer no answers and only questions, but when mankind's depravity is so evident to see, the fact that we can as a species raise ourselves to such levels of creativity comes as a small crumb of comfort. To any youngsters out there in interland: Stevie Wonder may have not made a great album for more than 20 years, but Songs In The Key Of Life, from which Love's In Need comes, is a greater album than anything Level 42 ever made. Apologies if that upsets anyone, but facts is facts. Anyway you can handle it, it's not like this is the Web Digest (you can tell that from the fact that nobody's impressed by anybody else's cables).
