The digest has been an ideal source of info on a now defunct band and I guess that's the point, on some days there were as little as 3 or 4 messages posted, there are no new releases, only Mark and Mike doing the odd random tour - essentially no news. The concept of a chat room is fine, but why the facility to create a thread - why not have just one long scrolling page of input, and why not email the page every 24hrs? All the recent uproar of lacking L42 content and now just look at the new digest - just how much L42 content is there really? Fuck all! Running a digest of this nature is a thankless task, but when you establish a community and generate traffic to a forum you have to be held responsible thereafter to a certain extent. I take my hat off to those responsible for maintaining it over the years - a labour of love without doubt, but the way I see it now: The new digest with all it's gizzmos and threads HAS NOT BEEN SET UP WITH THE FANS INTERESTS AT HEART - IT STANDS AS A PORTFOLIO PIECE TO IT'S CREATORS' PROGRAMMING AND TECHNICAL PROWESS. IT IS NO LONGER A COMMUNITY, MORE A PROJECT TO STICK ON THE CV. Things like this don't appear overnight, it has been created behind the scenes for many months without a single mention to the subscribers. It would now appear that assurances of maintaining the old format were untrue. I beleive the creators have got a little carried away with the new site's functionality, loosing sight of what it's subcribers 'REALLY' need and run the risk of breaking up the community for good. If it aint broke - don't fix it. --------------------------------------------------------------- Using a Macintosh? From: summerhouse42 @ juno.com Date: Sat, 8 Sep 2001 22:29:25 -0400 to the dwindling numbers on this digest, just thought i'd throw in my 2 cents worth. i'm with those of you that are left - i much prefer the original digest. the new one is too time consuming. though i have web access there are those out there that only have e-mail - what will become of them if the digest folds? my vote is for this digest (if anyone is listening..........................) susan.
