"Crazy" seems to be influenced by "The Chant has begun". Regards, Christian ------------------------------ Subject: We like Ike From: "Nigel Collier" Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 11:39:48 +0100 >It occurs to me the reason why there is so little L42 content on the digest - the >band's broken up for 8? years now In my experience, this Digest is no worse than any other discussion group I've used - is anybody subscribed to other groups better than this one? What makes them better? >Still, the dearth of material is nothing compared to those on the Blue Nile digest, who are still waiting for a fourth album in a 20 year span. I heard a track from Ike Turner's new album. The track was absolutely OUTSTANDING - very, VERY funky - sounded like Larry Graham vocally (i.e. with enough 'bottom' to bring straw-coloured fluid from your ears). It was so good it almost makes the 23 year wait since his last album worthwhile. The "42" bit is the "meaning of life" according to the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and the word "level" was added to "level" it out, as it were. **2 - Why had Wally Badarou not become an 'official' member of Level 42? Wally was always a shy person who prefered to let the music do the talking and always sunned the limelight, however he was always known as the "5" th member. **3 - Who in heaven's name is Ray Schmidt-Volk? He was an employee of Polydor who happened to be leaving when level 42 were starting out with polydor, and he was presented with a leaving present of this song written for him. Apparently Mark had the only known copy of this song on tape where it was copied over for the remasters cd. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Subject: The Jewel Of The Nile From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 23:25:07 +0100 >Subject: Er Um. >From: Tom Trudell > >Still, the dearth of material is nothing compared to those on the Blue Nile >digest, who are still waiting for a fourth album in a 20 year span. Try waiting 20 years for a single album. Still, it was worth it in the end. >Subject: RE: Level42 Digest V2001 #234 >From: Paul Clifton > >can't agree, i am afraid: though the earlier albums are musically inventive >(though too often derivative) and superbly executed, i feel the band never >became a true pop band at all until world machine. Exactly, and that's precisely when it started to go wrong. I loved the carefree, unfashionable, gauche Level 42. The slicker they got, the more the music lost character. It was more consistent but less surprising, at least until the Guaranteed aberration.
