Hey, in the future, would it be possible to have hi-tech digest where we can also send a limited amount of images and/or audio? This would be very cool and would open up a whole new area. I don't know if this would ever be possible, but maybe something like a html digest, sent by email with people sending in basic html, text pictures and sound in a similar way as they do with the digest. It's just a crazy idea, there's nothing wrong with the digest, but I'm always striving for progression. Secondly MB - I would not dare have a go at Jasper or his wonderful tunes. I found 'The magic roundabout' and 'Funky moped' to be true classics, and certainly would not lump them in with Mr Sayles trollop. I do think, however, that Alexei is a fine actor rather than songwriter - Mr Carrott being the other way round IMHO. On a final note, do keyboard players get more women than bass players(!!??) The replies to this one better be good. He did some great albums, as has always been one of my fave keyboard players. He also had some pretty good bass players in his bands. Danny Wilson & Lester McFarland being the main guys, but Stanley Clarke did some guest work as well. If you ever thought Kenny G sucked on sax, please check out his playing on these early albums, which is waaaay before he went 'smooth jazz'. Fusion lovers should not be caught dead without owning at least these 3 albums: Water Sign (1979), Wizard Island (1980) and Galaxian (1981), whcih features Stanley Clarke on 'Monster Man'. btw, the track you refer to is actually called 'TUNE 88', from the album titled Water Sign. This has one of the funkiest basslines ever!!! Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Musician's Secret to Love! Someone tried to persuade me that the former were worthy of a few minutes attention, since their bass player was very good. Well, compared to your average heavy metal, plectrum-wielding incompetent, he is - but not in the league we discuss here. In terms of quality music, they are irrelevant. ------------------------------ Subject: New Level 42 compilation From: "Pascal Koolen" Organization: www.level42.nl Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 18:28:44 +0100 Howdydoody folks, today i found in my local record store an album called "Running in the family" on the "Rotation" label.catalognr.543 909-2 It seems to be a copy from the "Turn it on" compilation,it features also the short version of "Can't walk you home"(4m16s) My L42 collection explodes with this kind of compilations, why don't they release some interesting rare stuff?????????????? Hope all is well for you in 2001. With some L42 albums, the order of some of the tracks seems to flow perfectly, at least to me...for example, I think the section of 'True Colours' from 'A Floating Life' to 'Kouyate' is a good mix. But I'm interested in reading how other Digesters would program L42 albums as opposed to the way PolyGram, RCA or Resurgence did it. There's the old argument as to whether 'World Machine' US or UK makes more sense, or 'Forever Now' RCA vs. Resurgence, but there could be some interesting shuffling on the albums with the same tracks, UK or US version. For example, how would YOU program 'Running In the Family' or 'The Pursuit of Accidents?' 'Answers on a postcard please, I'd like to know what you believe...' TCOY, The Duke PS: This was inspired by a rock critic's comment about how the opening tracks of Robert Palmer's first album --'Sailing Shoes,' 'Hey Julia' and 'Sneaking Sally Through the Alley' -- fit so well. == "...brotherhood is not so wild a dream as those who profit by postponing it pretend." From: billybilly3 @ excite.com Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 00:53:53 -0800 (PST) Mark King did not produce 'you are in my systen' by Robert Palmer. He did whoever do a remix of this track, which is a cover version of the tune by the us act 'The System'. Well I am finally happy to see another one of my favs appear in the digest...very funky and diverse artist. I always felt Mr. Palmer did what he wanted and explored all types of music, a bit like what Mr. King is doing nowadays. Mr Palmer is also multi talented artist musician producer and writer. I would love to see Robert and Mark get together and cut a few tunes....that would be funky Regards from the green trees of Oregon _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/
