From: "Tjeerd" Organization: Tjeerdie Peerdie Recordings Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 12:26:26 +0100 I was reading my emails the last few days not so good, but when i had the time on sunday afternoon when my 9 mounths old daughter was asleep i read the mail in my inbox. Then I was shocked, one of imho bassplayers at this moment left Metallica. Jason did some encredible things with his bass on both the albums and on the tours. Shame to hear that he is left the band! Read the press release from 17-01-2001! Jan 17 - 2001 STATEMENT FROM THE MEMBERS OF METALLICA Metallica regrets to announce that after 14 years as Metallica's bass player, Jason Newsted has chosen to leave the band. Jason Newsted: "Due to private and personal reasons, and the physical damage that I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love, I must step away from the band. This is the most difficult decision of my life, made in the best interest of my family, myself, and the continued growth of Metallica. I extend my love, thanks, and best wishes to my brothers: James, Lars, and Kirk and the rest of the Metallica family, friends, and fans whom have made these years so unforgettable." Newsted joined Metallica from Flotsam And Jetsam in the fall of 1986 after the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton. He participated in the recording of 6 Metallica albums (.And Justice for All, Metallica, Load, Re-Load, Garage Inc., and S&M) which have sold over 55 million copies worldwide to date. In addition, he played on numerous worldwide tours to millions of fans representing over 1000 gigs in all. While with Metallica, the band won countless awards including 5 Grammy Awards and 2 MTV Video Music Awards. James Hetfield: "Playing with someone who has such unbridled passion for music will forever be a huge inspiration. On stage every night, he was a driving force to us all, fans and band alike. His connection will never be broken." Lars Ulrich: "We part ways with Jason with more love, more mutual respect, and more understanding of each other than at any other point in the past. James, Kirk and I look forward to embracing the next chapter of Metallica with both a huge amount of appreciation for the last 14 years with Jason and the excitement of rising to the challenges that lay ahead to make Metallica shine brighter than ever." In the spring, Metallica will begin writing and recording a new studio album with release sometime in late 2001 or early 2002. Kirk Hammett: "Jason is our brother. He will be missed." Notice what, you might say... Well on a programme called I Love 1981 on BBC2 there was a moment when they were taking a look back at the TV show Magnum PI and there playing in the background was none other than Love Games! I think somebody at the BBC who's got an input in someway in this series on the 80's must like the band. I think we could be treated to further outings by the band in future 'years' on the show. Sorry to correct you, Loz, but I think you mean that the artists name is Alexei Sayle - and the track mentioned is actually called ' "Allo, John gotta new motor?" which indicates that he is asking John if he has bought himself a new automobile - not that he has bought himself one. Did Mark King really have some involvement with that pile of tosh? By the way, did any of you brit Digesters watch 'I love 1981' on saturday night - 'Love games' was playing in the background of a segment about 'Magnum PI'. I fail to see the connection. What was weird, though, was that I had just finished playing 'Level 42' on my hi fi - and stopped it after 'Heathrow', because the tv programme had started. A case for Mulder and Scully! So, hang on in there to all who are expecting replies from me. After catching up on the Digest I think that "Staring At The Sun" (SATS) and "Guaranteed" (G) do have worthy tracks. I think on SATS the classics are "I Don't Know Why", "Staring At The Sun" and "Two Hearts Collide" (Reissues version). On G, we have "Overtime", "A Kinder Eye", "Seven Years" and "Set Me Up". I also think "All She Wants" is a good track and should have been on the album. Staying with Guaranteed, no-one answered my query about the Guaranteed box set. How many pages does the booklet supposed to have ? I was told 32pages, but mine only contains about 8. What other box sets are there and how much are they worth - including the Guaranteed one ? Thanks again to all those who answered my sound files / cd burning software, especially Mr Walker. Finally, has anyone noticed that the page containing the DVD cover is not on www.markking.com anymore !! I hope this is not going to turn into another episode like the Royal Albert Hall CD. Speaking of which, is this ever gonna be released as a lot of time was spent on this project ???? Till the DVD comes out (I hope) Kansas City Milkman... maybury @ nildram.co.uk www.maybury.nildram.co.uk
