From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Richard=20Gascoine?= Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 13:37:53 +0100 (BST) Hi everyone! Just a note to say that I have 3 days off work as from Wednesday. I'm popping over to the Isle of Wight 'cos where else would a L42 nut go! (well...please!..no funny comments on that one!) I need a break badly. Messege to Jen. Where's that shop in Newport with the flash shirts? I may treat myself to one..if I can afford one that is! Why not ask him this question via his website. The first time he did question, less than 20 people submitted them. Kinda odd to me, considering all the lyrics he's written. I checked Ceefax (the BBC teletext) yesterday and Mark _was_listed but right for the start of the show the anouncer indicated that it was a different episode. And no Mark.... Maybe next week ? Let's mail the bastards ;) !!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/questionofpop > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: Carl Mueller [mailto:cmueller @ inland.net] > Verzonden: zaterdag 14 juli 2001 21:17 > Aan: ilf @ worldmachine.com; level42 @ worldmachine.com > Onderwerp: re: Mark King on ' A QUESTION OF POP' > > > FYI everyone :-) > (thanks Chris) > > Carl > ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2001 #195 From: "Laurence F. I suspect she is the 'you' in I know ''you'' need me to be strong l just don't know how much longer I can pretend ''you'' always need me to be a good man in a storm There is a big clue in the song: ''there was a vision flashing by of a summers' day I spent with you of a child who never learnt how to cry '' The child who never learnt how to cry is Boon. (Boon is so named, because an uncle of his once commented that his lack of crying made him a Boon to the family). I think the whole song is Phil's way of saying that, with the lack of a father or father figure in the family, he though he was the one who bearing the brunt of the responsibility and the only one with enough common sense to see the family out of difficult situations. That seems to me to be what Phil is trying to get across. Hope this helps, remember, don;t be afraid to ask L()Z ------------------------------------------------------ Laurence Green Research Assistant Sheffield Hallam University School Of Environment and Development City Campus Advanced Construction Research, Room 302 Sheffield S1 1WB TEL: 0114 2253523
