As I am sure countless others will point out (well Loz will anyway...), Holdsworth did play live with the band, at their month-long Hammy Odeon residency -- the dates mentioned by Mark on the Fait Accompli video. And while I've got nothing whatsoever against Al Murphy -- far from it, in fact -- if you're going to dump Jakko into some sort of 'Holdsworth-clone' category, then you should put Al Murphy in there too. ------------------------------ Subject: Jay Dee basses From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Richard=20Gascoine?= Date: Wed, 4 Jul 2001 11:31:57 +0100 (BST) Hi all, Could anyone tell me if Jay Dee basses have a website? I've searched everywhere and still no joy. I searched under John Diggins too but again they don't seem to have a site. I'm interested in a Jay Dee Mark King bass. I've always liked thoses basses and the Alembics too. If anyone has any info on this could you please let me know. Many thanks! Richard. ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I get a good vibe from everyone > except Jakko who seems a little to cocky for me. That's surprising, James. I've met Mark, Mike, Boon, Gary, and the others who play with Mark now, and Jakko seems the most friendly and accessible of them all. In fact, as many who've attended the JC shows will attest, he even remembers our names! Perhaps it's his bent sense of humor that put you off? Also, when you get down to it, I think he's one of the best musicians in the bunch. > (I intentionally left Allan H. out as I was mainly > thinking of guitarists who played with the band > live.) Wasn't it Allan who played the legendary month of sold-out shows at Hammersmith Odeon, or am I mistaken? > Did l42 play at the Apollo theatre in London Crazy Willem. Everyone knows that the Apollo Theater is in Harlem! (Is there one in London, too?) Happy Independence Day, everybody--even to our former imperial masters over there! ;o) Peace - Z. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The laissez faire approach doesn't really work very well. We have huge disparities between haves and have nots. Some of which are understandable, but others are because the have-nots simply don't have anything (besides cash, in some cases) that they haves want. That's against the purpose of music -- an artistic expression meant to be shared as a way of bringing people together. A number of years ago, I got a letter from one of the biggest L42 collectors. He was offering to swap tapes from live shows. Being an American stuck way over in the Pacific Northwest, I didn't have anything I could offer him. For years, I was never able to add to my collection, but I was always willing to share with others what I had because I knew that I was fortunate enough to have found some gems and, more important, because music is something meant to be shared. I don't know how to balance off the fact that people have worked very hard to put together their collections over many years, and that in some cases they've spent money on bootlegs. Further, it is hard on equipment to be making CDs all the time, and it is time-consuming to do so. I personally don't want to be making lots of copies on a frequent basis. But I would like to see us create a network that operates by making at-cost copies of bootlegs. By "at-cost," I don't mean reimbursement for purchasing the show -- I mean simply the cost of materials and shipping. Further, I would like to find a way to get a small amount of money back to L42 from these shows or perhaps as a Digest-wide contribution to Children Say. Please share your thoughts on this issue in the Digest. This should be a public discussion. Level best, shuf ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2001 #184 From: "J.W.C.
