From: Richard.West @ invensys.com Date: Mon, 2 Jul 2001 11:40:12 +0100 My heartiest congratulations to all concerned for having perpetuated ad nauseum an argument even more boring than the recent God-based one. To summarise: 1) People make spelling & grammatical mistakes sometimes. Deal with it. 2) No, you're not racist. And neither are you. I know racism when I see it, and I really haven't seen any here. 3) As regards the original argument -- yes, you've got a good point there. And yes, you have a good point too. In fact, you all have good points. Believe me, the rest of us take the point. OK? For f***'s sake, WE GET IT. Now for crying out loud, will you PLEASE change the record? ------------------------------ Subject: A bunch of nonsense peppered amongst a bit of relevant material From: HighwayHamster @ webtv.net (Glen Hambly) Date: Mon, 2 Jul 2001 04:00:25 -0700 (PDT) Good grief! After reading the Q&A on tyhe excellent Phil Gould website, I would like to ask it again. On the website Phil says (regarding the Forever Now drum-recordings): ... Towards the end things, creatively, began to get safer and safer and I had no time for the title track, and that¹s when the cracks appeared and, once again, we went our separate ways. ... Is it Phil Gould playing on the FN title track, or is it someone else? The drum-sound and the groove isn't the typical PG-groove. I'm very curious if someone knows about this, and if it isn't Phil: who is it? Greetings, Arjan ------------------------------ Subject: balcony From: Martin Brindley Date: Mon, 2 Jul 2001 12:01:16 +0100 Hi Brian, I've also booked to go up on the balcony (Friday the 30th) having seen the set up of the Jazz cafe and being to the last few MK gigs I would imagine that it is an excellent place to be (Mark comes through the restaurant/bar to the stage) and the food looks good too! Must have something to do >with >being >"semi-retired", I suppose. Anybody see Nik Kershaw busking on TV the other week? I think it was on one of the 94 Watchdog programmes the BBC spews out these days. It was a contest between him and Glenn Tilbrook to see who earned the most. Tilbrook won (no surprise really, since he had in his armoury arguably the finest pop song ever written and a voice which remains remarkably angelic). Anyway, it was nice to see the pair of them being so self-effacing. Kershaw said he now knows how a Big Issue seller feels, that it had been as if he were utterly invisible. Don’t we have BBC people here? I’d love a recording of what Tilbrook sang that day. Seems profligate to only show 30 seconds of it. Come on, I pay my licence fee. Also it indicated that my places had "limited visability". When we arived no one was "forcing" us to go upstairs to the restaurant, so would we have wanted we could have stayed downstairs during the gig without problem. However we had calculated to eat there so were quite hungry, so we went upstairs anyway. There are small tables right next to the balcony's low fence and these are fine if you want to eat and watch a gig simultaniously. However, there are also places far away from the fence where you do not see a thing while seated !!!! That was where our table was, and when I sat at the very edge I could just see the top of Jacko's guitar amp and that was it. After thinking this over I decided that I had not traveled all this way to only _hear_ Marks' gig and so I asked if we could get a table close to the fence. Those were all reserved however. I said to the manager that I came from Holland specialy for the gig and that I thought this was hardly "limited" but more "No view". Her (not very friendly) reply was that we could skip dinner altogether and look at the gig downstairs, which we did and enjoyed very much ! Also: food prices are not exactly low at the Jazz Cafe, but then everything in the UK is expensive for us Europe mainlanders. Talking about the JC concerts, do we have a confirmation from Mark that they are definite ? After the "camera" tricks of the JC I do not trust them very much anymore ;) ! (I am referring to the very strict camera policy we experienced in 1999, while you could safely flash away at the 2000 gig......and of course I didn't bring my camera that night :( !!! There must be scores of live bootlegs that exist amongst the Digesters around the world, everyone seems keen to tell you what they have, but their interest in making you a copy seems lower than a snake's belly ( pull the ladder up Jack ). At least Alex actually showed some interest in putting together a CD containing the live tracks available for the new website even if he didn't have the facility to do it. Being a massive Level 42 and Mark King fan I want to have as much material, especially live stuff, as I can, I'm sure there must be many others in the same position. All I am asking is for anyone who has any live bootlegs, to offer them to the vast copying network we have, EXACTLY like we are doing with the 'Live at Gillingham' and 'Strategy Live' CD's so we can all benefit from them. I am more than happy to cover CD and postage costs as I'm sure others would be. If I am being unfair with any of this please say so and I will unsubscribe straight away, I just want to hear some live gigs. The food was decent, but it was a > little lonely up there! Anyone who's planning to attend more than one Jazz Cafe show should consider the balcony for one of the nights. The floor is great, waiting for hours packed tight with friends & fans. But the balcony experience has a lot to offer. The teriyaki salmon I had last year was excellent, the bird's-eye view of the stage was fabulous, and not having to queue at all by itself made the price worth it. But if you're going to be there for only one night, the floor experience is the way to go. Can't beat the feeling of being in the thick of it, just a few feet away from the King while he does his thing. The Canadian film (in Circlevision 360) is always the highlight of my visits there, too. I live in relatively nearby Jacksonville, and so have been several times. So, at least one American appreciates things Canadian. Also, recently noted that Vancouver drafted Shane Battier from Duke University (go Blue Devils!) for their basketball team. Unfortunately, said basketball team will soon be moving to Memphis. Also, while in EPCOT's United Kingdom pavilion, I surveyed the natives on favorite football clubs. Tottenham won by far, and I am sorry if I spelled that incorrectly. Manchester United is the only club represented in the shops there, and are roundly despised, as are Arsenal, for whom my brother pulls. Most (I presumptuously assert) Americans can only name one English football club -- Manchester United. I am just about as ignorant. All I know is that I now tell all the English women that I meet that I pull for the Spurs, hoping that this will somehow help my chances. I also received some instruction on southern versus northern English accents. Sadly, I forgot to ask anyone about Level 42! This week it was about the band 'M' and popmusic. Robin Scott explained how he made this song. There were interviews with the other bandmembers aswell. Inclueding Wally Badarou. I think he co-wrote the song with Robin Scott. At the end, they were all asked about the future and Robin said that he is busy with the musiccareer of his daughter. Wally Badarou said that he loved to make songs or co-write songs for other bands. Greatings Christien Get 250 color business cards for FREE! http://businesscards.lycos.com/vp/fastpath/
