Even thought I do get a kick out of seeing Gary Barnacle and (sometimes) John Thirkell on TV for Brand New Heavies and just about everyone else! Best Regards Marcus Bone PS US and Canada stop bickering or we'll come over and invade both of you! ------------------------------ Subject: Bronski Off-Beat From: "John Shuford" Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 03:55:52 -0700 Just a quick reply to JWC Bronksi's post from yesterday. Perhaps you are forgetting that, unlike the days of selling millions of albums for Polydor, Mark is bankrolling everything himself. He sold off his studio, much of his "high quality" equipment, etc., and is largely doing it as a One Man operation. He's also selling his product that way. It's not as slick as before. It doesn't go through as many reworkings by as many different people. He doesn't perform in front of 18,000 fans 6 nights in a row anymore, and he doesn't have the BBC recording his shows for posterity. He's up to something different these days, and - as mentioned - doing it by himself. Some people like it, some don't. But at least try to listen to it (if not appreciate it) for what it is. He's making music that he's having fun writing and performing, and trying out some things he was never able to do within the context of Level 42. Maybe that means, for various reasons, it's not the same sonic quality. Hear it for what it is. ------------------------------ Subject: Live at Gillingham From: Steve Robson Organization: Cadence Design Systems Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 13:39:11 +0100 Hi Folks, This CD is a complete gem! Better than the "white funky" IMHO. I'm sure there is a snippet of "Love Games" at the end of "Love Meeting Love". Who was the tom-tom player? It can't have been any of the fab four as you can hear them (all five) in "Sandstorm". Huge kudos to Tony Tewes and his dad for making and keeping the recording. Tony told me this interesting fact: "Mark King sent my dad home to get a reverb unit to lend him as he didnt have one there that night" (Level) Best Regards, Steve IT Support - UNIX Cadence Design Systems Tel: +44 (0)1344 866523 Bagshot Road Mobile: +44 (0)7901 855046 Bracknell BERKSHIRE Fax: +44 (0)1344 866588 RG12 0PH UK ------------------------------ Subject: troll alert!! Canada is just America's front porch You should spend more time on your front porch. The view is much clearer. More intolerance from the land of the free and the home of the gun. I also find the musical intolerance amongst us amusing. You may not like Madonna, Lighthouse Family, Celine Dione or Brian Adams. Good. You have an opinion. So what? Many people enjoy these artists and what's wrong with that? Are you better because they find satisfaction in something you think should not be appreciated on any level, by anyone? I'm sure there are many people who think Level 42 are awful and that our musical tastes are suspect. Ignorance and intolerance are unfortunate by-products of humanity. Yes, I too am guilty. I've been to the first three places, and L.A. is definitely a place where I'd want to have a notification to next of kin ..... Now, if they're real adventurous, tell them to come out of the airport, miss the turn-off to the Interstate 405, and continue onward to the delightful neighbourhoods of Inglewood and Compton. I did this accidently at 10:00 at night, but to be honest with you, it's more culturally enlightening than Universal Studios (we may be the U.S.'s front porch but we got nothin' like the 'Hood here in Canada!). Actually, L.A. is a sight for the eyes, from Bel Air to Compton, from Rodeo and Wilshire to Florence and Normandie. >I should stress at this point that my sister is NOTHING WHATSOEVER LIKE ME. >She is a pleasant, outgoing, sociable type. Mark > King is only an amateur. Hello again, On the subject of Mark King's recent "quality" . . . I got a copy from Pascal of a dutch radio performance of an early "One Man" tour. Mark and Lyndon, must have been in the early months. For any of you who have it, you will have to agree that the backing vocals were really, really bad, even with the "Mike Lindup glasses" fully removed and put away. I'm happy to hear that the buyers of the DVD are reporting improvement in this area. They are, aren't they? Recent quality of Mark King should take into account the One Man album, which is as professional in its mastering as anyone could want. E tu, Bronski? > > > .
