Was this the group's >> >>acknowledgement of their desire to break the US market, or something >> >>else completely unrelated? You know, I've always thought that these lyrics , despite the face value love story of the song, were about Phil's strained relationship with Mark (See also DON'T BOTHER ME). Bits like " You said I must choose between a life of love or visions that will fade " and " I remember better days, now I understand can't buy happiness Love is not for sale". Then again I could be completely wrong, I guess you could easily mis-interprete a lot of their lyrics as Phil vs Mark. Full credit to Mark though for singing those words in DON'T BOTHER ME, he must have swollowed hard before singing that one. I know we've been through all the reasons why it wouldn't be right for the original Level 42 to reform (can't recapture the magic, all doing solo stuff etc.......), and no disrespect to any of them, but is really is a shame that 4 such talented musicians that made a very tight band aren't all up on the same stage together anymore as Level 42. I too have a SONY DVD player, and the darn thing won't play on it either. "Playing this disc prohibited by area limits." is all I get. Now, it will play on the ol' computer just fine, but not the way I had preferred to listen to it. Maybe this is a problem with SONY, like Winston said, but I'm not entirely sure why it would just do it on this one and state that message. I'll get in touch with SONY to see what they have to say. I currently have the S530D unit. According to SONY's site, they list PAL as a playable format. Don't know why we just couldn't get one without hassles. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Players and discs are often identified by the region number superimposed on a world globe. If a disc plays in more than one region it will have more than one number on the globe. 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt) 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong) 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia 6: China 7: Reserved 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.) (See the map at .) Technically there is no such thing as a region 0 disc or a region 0 player. There is such thing as an all-region disc. There are also all-region players. Some players can be "hacked" with special command sequences from the remote control to switch regions or play all regions. Some players can be physically modified ("chipped") to play discs regardless of the regional codes on the disc. This usually voids the warranty, but is not illegal in most countries. (The only thing that requires player manufacturers to region-code their players is the CSS license. See 1.11) On Feb. 7, 2001, NASA sent two multiregion DVD players to the International Space Station. Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Fred The Two Bit American Canuck From: "Brian Flint" Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 15:22:48 Fred Fred Fred, Firstly, this was all discussed last week, and since you failed to read my follow up, I will summarize. Due to an extensive research into my own geneaology (A phone call to mom) I discovered that I have a huge chunk of Canadian in my blood. So therefore I have ceased all references to Canadian insuperiority, true as it may be. But cxome on Fred, do you actually believe in your supposed esteemed intelligence that the mark patriotism, legitmacy, or even general knowledge is measured by the ability to recite national anthems? So you took the time to memorize Oh Canada in two different languages, big deal, in high school I tranlated the Iliad from the original latin, so am I like a rocket scientist now? Hardly. If 12 year old girls can memorize Britney Spears songs, then I think that you'll find your postulate a bit lacking in it's ability to support any facts. That said, I will move on to other things. I wonder if mark is on to something.......I was reading an old Tori Amos interview where she talks about fans, much like ourselves, and told them they have problems. You know, Unhealthy energy spent on the adoration of a mere musical group. Maybe Mark identifies with this and is purposely making all of these cd's and dvds and cd-roms available to us, knowing we are going to buy them, I mean hey, sounds fiscally sound to me.Food for thought. So fellow psycho's, see you later, Bri _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Subject: New Human League Single / Video!!!!! The album will be out soon and is slated for a U.S. Go here to listen to the song and watch the video (which is very cool). Phil sounds great and the girls still look fabulous. Bronski" Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 18:48:20 +0200 Regarding the recent problems with sound quality: I think Mark King is not interested to release any real quality material these days. Back in the eighties a lot of effort was put into mixing/production/mastering. MK's recent releases (Trash/Live Jazz Cafe/Isley of wight Audio/DVD) lack that extra quality. He calls himself "semi-retired". I'm afraid that means that he won't put much effort into his releases because these are bought by die-hard fans only who are lucky to get their hands on any Level 42 related material (like myself). Same thing with his band: I still think that Lyndon Connah is a joke. Some kind of standup-comedian who wakes up in front of a keyboard by accident. Why doesn't Mark hire a "quality musician" for keyboards? Level 42 were a "high quality" band when it came to sound-production. Mark King is only an amateur. Maybe that person could e-mail RCA/BMG with the figures. A Guaranteed 2cd remastered set could be a financial advantage for RCA/BMG. I'm sure Level 42's best album; Guaranteed, would be bought in comparable numbers as the Polydor remasters. Just an idea or I could be making this seem too simple. Perhaps someone could give him a crash course in knowing when Flint is being ironic though. Anyway, I was in my local Oxfam a couple of days ago and they had a Spanish issue Running In The Family 12". I couldn’t find anything to distinguish it from the normal issue except some of the wording on the label (Fabricado en España – look at that, still fluent after all these years) and a minute address for Polydor in Spain on the back sleeve. However, if anyone is mad or sad enough to want it I can go back and see if it’s still there. It’s nothing to do with Level 42 and there are no jokes in the paragraphs below, so anybody else can just skip forward to the How To Unsubscribe stuff we all read so keenly every day. For the last four months my sister and nephew have been travelling round the world. They’ve done India, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia and in each of these places have had a point of contact, a friend or friend of a friend, just in case anything catastrophic happened. In a couple of weeks they’re flying in to Los Angeles on the last leg of the journey, where they know nobody. In fact they don’t know anybody in the whole of America. So here’s what I’m asking – would anybody be willing to be a last resort, desperation, nowhere-else-to-turn-if-things-go-horribly-wrong point of contact for them? Just a safety net in a worst case scenario. It’s most unlikely you’d have any interaction at all, but it would be a reassurance for them (and for my mother). I should stress at this point that my sister is NOTHING WHATSOEVER LIKE ME. She is a pleasant, outgoing, sociable type. She’s a happy-go-lucky character with never a harsh word for anybody. She even likes meeting people, for some strange reason. And my nephew, who will be 12 in October, is a smashing little chap. Anyway, if anybody would care to offer I would be truly grateful.
