Thought I'd come out of the dark for a few moments, and put in my two bits:
John in Vegas: great memory of the Toronto gigs except that Boon was not
out of the group for the Steve Winwood concert. All Toronto concerts
featured the original line-up except for the final gig, September 12, 1987
at Maple Leaf Gardens, by which time Boon was gone. That concert was also
their own (they weren't opening for anybody). I had 8th row floor seats,
and was a bit shocked not to see Boon on stage (I mean, I had just seen him
at the July 4 Madonna concert, and he looked very happy to me :-) ).
Unfortunately, back then, we didn't have the YCB-DVD Digest to keep us up to
date on these things. Speaking of YCB, I'm thinking of getting this CD
based on the rave reviews, but am I alone in thinking that Y-Chromo Boyz is
something of a twatty name?? It makes me think of a traditional "boy" band,
or a baggy-assed hip hop combo (a la Kris Kross) (no disrespet to either
genre). Perhaps someone can explain how they arrived at this
head-scratching selection of a group name. But based on name recognition
alone, the last thing I think of is "Early Tapes" or "Pursuit of Accidents".
Ah yes, the DVD. I ordered this early last week before the notes on PAL
came out. So, now I'll have to decide: do I want to watch it on my
computer, when I have a lot of money invested in home theatre equipment, or
do I keep it on the shelf until 2024 when I buy that PAL/NTSC DVD player (at
a garage - "car boot" - sale), or do I offer it up at face value, preferably
to a local resident of the greater Toronto area?? Well, I'll have to think
about this one, but the final scenario looks best to me at this time.
I'll have to get around to scanning my photos from the July 4 '87 concert
(Mark in leg cast) and Sept 12 '87 concert (Boon, where are you?), and send
them in to Forever Now .......
Andrew: good to see that you're still saving up for the Season Ticket,
despite the drop ........ (next year: will you sell your prestine copy of
Guaranteed for a Vauxhall Conference (or whatever it's called these days)
Season Ticket??)
Back to lurking ......... (hope this e-mail is playable in most parts of the
US)

Hi all,
Sorry to piss you off, Loz, but I'm gonna announce the birth of my 3rd
daughter - Harley Isabella - who arrived on 20th June @7.03pm and weighed in
@ 6 pounds and 4 ounces.
Anything L42 related? well, she was born to the sound of the Great Ones
coming out of the hospitals ghetto blaster. The track? 'Good man in a
storm' which was nice.
Cheers,
Lozzie xxxx

Received my DVD late last week, popped it into the APEX (first test of
it's PAL playback) and it worked brilliantly! Now I'm all about
ordering some Region 2 discs I've been holding off on (I got one of the
old models that allowed you to select region codes and to disable
macrovision).
Kudos to Mark for getting this out and for such a fine performance.
Kudos to Lynden for what I thought was a fantastic job on the keys.
All you who have been complaining about him need to turn off the 'Mike
Lindup Glasses'. They're both great musicians, and although Mike
Lindup is god in my opinion, that doesn't make Lynden Connah
incompetent. I saw him on the one man tour and thought he was great!
Kudos also to Nathan and Gary. Kudos to Cristina Gallego for getting
your name on the credits :) And finally, Kudos to APEX for making a
damn fine DVD player with more functionality for less money.
I think the audio quality is excellent. When I was listening to it, I
thought the same thing that Winston was mentioning. Whoever said it
wasn't mixed properly must be listening to it in Pro-Logic mode instead
of matrix surround or 2-channel stereo.
> Is it possible to covert dvd to divx so it can be burnt onto normal cdr? and
> be viewed on dvd-player on tv-screen?
Possible, yes. Probable? No. I don't know how you'd convert the
video directly. Probably have to run the video through a stand-alone
DVD player and run S-Video into a video capture card, then compress the
video to mpeg/divx.
If you've got the time, go for it. Otherwise, you're probably best to
order the DVD-ROM version and convert the QT files to VCD compliant
mpeg and burn a Video CD.
As for the One Man album, I've always loved it. While I'd have killed
for another "Influences", the more adult contemporary feel of the album
was great, and there were some fantastic tracks. Love Wars has always
been my favourite (as anyone who saw me singing along on the tour can
attest to), and I love Bitter Moon, Resupply, One Man and Changing the
Guard. I can do without Pamela, and I wish Mark hadn't bothered to
write the first half of track four.
I narrowly missed seeing Level 42 on the Winwood tour. I was a bit of
a Steve Winwood fan and nearly bought tickets to see him. I knew Level
42 at the time, but hadn't become the die-hard fan I am now. It was
about a month after the tour that I really discovered them and
unfortunately, never had another chance to see them.

You Digesters have GOT to get this new album - it's absolutely fantastic and
cannot be missed. I'm really looking forward to their first gig and hope to
see some of you there (and in the bar afterwards!).

Shout out to Mark if your reading the digest.
Please check out the website for this years Milwaukee Summerfest lineup.
http://www.summerfest.com
Under entertainment/grounds stages you'll find the entertainment listed for
the Harley Davidson Roadhouse stage.
I mention this only because I've read that your a fan of Harleys, and of
course Milwaukee is the home of their world headquarters. Tour anyone?
Of course I think it would blow everyone away if you played the Marcus
Amphitheater main stage but if you were looking for a smaller venue why not
here?
I know it's to late for this year but since it's held every year at this
time what a great place to kick off/or to add a date to a U.S tour. Next
year maybe??? Please!!!!!!!!
Having lived in this area most of my life and attended my share of excellent
shows at summerfest, the great outdoors and being on the waterfront makes
for a wonderful relaxed atmosphere and a great place for you to put on a
show.
To everyone else reading the digest I know it's a long shot trying and get
Mark to tour the states but of course it never hurts to make a suggestion in
the hopes that he will read it as well as consider it.
Royal
P.S I did see Gary Husband with Allan Holdsworth here in Milwaukee a few
years back. Great show!!

Hi Des
Yes, I was there too. The man's not human; it should be a criminal offence
for anybody to be that funky. He has GROOVE oozing from every pore. And the
way he dealt with his ailing soprano sax in 'Your Amazing Grace' was just
soooo cool -- talk about unfazed and unflustered.
And to any of you who haven't yet bought 'M2', his new CD, all I can say
is... WHY NOT?? You have no excuse. Go and buy it immediately, and hear the
truth.
