From: "Spencer, Paul" Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 11:37:15 +0000 (GMT) Steve Randall offered us this; > I watched my Guaranteed at the Country Club video last night. A great show > but what really got my goat was Mark chewing while he sang. It's not cool, > it's disrespectful and flippant. The sort of "I hate the audience" attitude > one expects from The Beautiful South, not L42. There is a bona fide reason for Mark to chew gum and not because he was dying for a cig (he's a non-smoker). One's throat and mouth become pretty dry after a while of hurling your voice (you try for an hour or two!), so the gum provides that welcome relief of extra saliva to lubricate the working parts! Hope that this clears that little anomaly up then.. paul.. ---------------------------------------- Paul Spencer research student uwe, bristol ------------------------------ Subject: dodgy translations From: "goldie100" Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 11:59:26 -0000 Hi all, Just wanted to apologise to all American Digesters regarding my comment about Boon 'sparking up a fag'. Of course, I meant a cigarette - and Alex damn well knows it!!. I would hate to think that anyone would believe that Boon was gay (of course, if he is, then there's nothing wrong with that - I just think that if he isn't, then he would not appreciate anyone saying he is). There I go, digging myself a deeper hole ................. Please don't let me start another heated debate!!!! By the way, Alex - I believe that bass players tend to get more women than drummers, is that true??. Cheers, Lozzie xxx ------------------------------ Subject: Album covers From: "goldie100" Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 12:07:39 -0000 Hi again, I forgot to include my comments regarding album covers- sorry. I agree with my mate and drum tutor Alex, 'Level 42' is probably the best cover. However, what about 'The white album' by The Beatles - "there was nothing on that goddamn cover" (Bobbi Fleckman, 'This is Spinal Tap'). Hello Cleveland!!!!!!! " Wow, that is fantastic! - I once got into a taxi (about 2 years ago) - guess what, 'Running in the Family" was playing on the radio - and curiously enough the taxi No. could have been 424242 (but I'm only guessing). It really made my day I can tell you, I returned home to play the whole album at full blast as I engaged in my '42nd' wank that week - but I never thought to share it with the digest until I read the above. Let us know if the day turned out as well as mine did 2 years ago or remained unremarkable. It is my understanding that chewing the gum helps keep your throat and mouth from getting dry. As far as the "I hate audience" attitude....that's a reach and a total load of crap. I read an old article called 'L42 goes back to basics' in which MK tells that he produced 'Robert Palmer' 'You're in my system'; check it out on Napster; its quite funky. Also; I remember in the early days MK told an interviewer that he played on a record/track of a UK comedian (from eastern europe backgound) , I forgot his name, and I am not sure where to look in my pile of L42 related articles. Does anyone know which comedian I am talking about, or which is the name of the record ? this all happened in the early eighties. Hope to hear from you, cheers ! Forget my question about which comedian MK worked with; I just recalled; Alexei Sayle. Does anyone know which tracks, and what MK's contribution was ? cheers, Erik T. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! I had an extensive conversation with Allan pertaining to the lack of information regarding shows. He has agreed that this information should be more readily available. He doesn`t book his shows but will keep me abreast of new shows as they develop. Unfortunately, his booking agent does not communicate with Gnarly Geezer willingly. I will do my best to keep you informed. Allan also mentioned a European tour in late spring / early summer. The only location discussed was a week in London but no dates are set. I am sure there will be more so give things a chance to develop and we will inform you of the dates when they are final. Norman www.level42.zzn.com www.dalata.zzn.com
