A great show > but what really got my goat was Mark chewing while he sang. It's not cool, > it's disrespectful and flippant. The sort of "I hate the audience" attitude > one expects from The Beautiful South, not L42. Oh yeah? Well, Hendrix also occasionally chewed gum while he sang, and Miles Davis played with his head down and his back to the audience, at least during the two shows (JVC Jazz Festival) I saw in 1988 and 1989. Do you think they too hated the audience? > Subject: Bush to mark King birthday > From: Greg Jamate > Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2001 10:58:54 -0500 > Trivia question. It is very difficult to separate your reaction to an album, to your >reaction to its cover! >... >World Machine had >a very clean, professional, minimalist, even slightly mysterious cover Not to mention its crappy artwork, poor choice of pictures, wussy colour scheme, and, the final straw of mediocrity, the mismatched nut and bolt. I liked World Machine album _in spite of_ its lame cover. Best cover, IMHO, was Level 42. ************ >From: "goldie100" > >Alex - You gonna show me how you play your instrument? >do you have callouses too?!. It's a rhythmic thing, babe. You got to work on your grip. It helps to vocalize your parts before you start, too. And we'll have to spend many an hour working on getting all your limbs working independently. Be patient. Only with much repetition will you be able to master my instrument. Tune in next week when we discuss hardware, head design, and auxiliary toys. Aint drums great? Bet all you bass players are thinking you picked the wrong axe by now. ************** >From: "goldie100" > >And that was usually when Boon took the opportunity to spark up a fag. (think live)" Larry played at the Isle of White festival for Sly and the Family Stone way back in 1923. Or was it in 24? Greg J ------------------------------ Subject: todays date From: robert a howells Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 13:52:08 -0500 I dont know about anyone else but my calender says jan 16 on it. i think it is just about mid january. i hope we dont have to wait for the dvd as long as we did for "one man" and the reissues. ------------------------------ Subject: Starchild From: "Mario Angeli" Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 18:57:33 -0000 Hi folks I went into my local dance record shop today and was told that the Starchild remix by Boris Dlugosch will be available late this week. It's likely that the record shops in central london may have it already. I believe the artist name is "BMR and Level 42". Lets hope the remix is as good as the original !! There was some good debate over Guaranteed and SATS. I'd like to ask if there ever has been a poll on the fan's fav album (after all they were an album orientated band). I remember getting an email asking about my fav song before xmas but never being asked about fav album. What do you think, good idea or is it covering old ground? Maybe we could vote on our top 3. In fact now I think about it we could vote on all the albums with marks being given on different categories such as Mark's bass playing, the tour for that album even the artwork on the album cover? (these maybe poor examples, please forgive me, this idea has just come whilst writing this email)So what do you think? Mario ps: who would do this if it was a good idea? Could we contact the people who do level42.com? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Subject: AWSOME New Music for ALL Level 42 Fans!!!!!! From: The Saint Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 13:36:33 -0800 (PST) I've recently discovered a great band out of Sweden called NASA (many of the European members of the digest may know of them) and they just issued a new album in the U.S. called "Remembering The Future." This sounds SO much like a Mike Lindup fronted Level 42 if I ever heard of one. All Level 42 fans have to check into them, but especially the Lindup/Badarou fans because the synth work is fabulous. The first single "Back To Square One," sounds like it should have been on World Machine and the second single "Nexterday" sounds like a Lindup solo single for 2001. The music sounds like a Level 42 remix album featuring Eiffel 65, yet retaining the vintage 80's sound, if that makes sense. I'm telling you, as a die hard fan of L42 for nearly 20 years, I really feel most L42 fans would like these guys. You can buy the album and hear samples at Amazon.com or go direct to Lexicon Magazin's homepage (they have issued the CD in America) at "http://www.lexiconmagazine.com" or check "http://adifferentdrum.com" This is great stuff.... paul F _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ ------------------------------ Subject: crap tunes/Y Chromo Boyz From: ZW75 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 01:58:17 EST Hey wassup Level fans, I have been thinking about my L42 crap tunes list and I came up with the following: Two Hearts Collide My Father's Shoes (lyrics are cool, but I'm not in the country thang here) Hours By the Window (too depressing for me, I know this one's about a depressing subject) All of the other songs I love. I don't understand why one person doesn't like "Love Games" That's the all time Level 42 slap fest tune :-). I would like to give a shout out to the Y Chromo Boyz (Phil and Mark)...that's a very funky CD, please get it if you haven't already. Phil is all over that bass, damn! Can't wait for the full CD to come out. I loved "Impossible" the best. Peace, Zanchie ------------------------------ Subject: From: richard.west @ westsig.co.uk Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 09:41:53 +0000 I don't think Mark's habit of chewing while playing is so much an attitude of "I hate the audience", as "I'm dying for a cig, and this is the best way I can think of to take my mind off it"! As regards a 'dream team'... I'd love to see a fusion trio consisting of Mark on bass & percussion, Gary Husband on keyboards & percussion, and Billy Cobham or Dennis Chambers on drums. Just imagine the outrageous drum/percussion breaks... it'd be like 43 all over again! ------------------------------ Subject: A Pleasant Suprise From: "" Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 10:29:28 Fantastic ! Walked into the canteen at work this morning for a coffee, and who should be playing over the radio (which is piped through several large speakers around the room) Level 42 - Something about you. Think it's a local radio station Q103 maybe. Made my day.....
