Radiohead; the most tuneless vile waste of studio time since Pat & Mick's 'I haven't stopped dancing yet'. Critically acclaimed for droning on about a load of rubbish, what joy that I have never heard one of their songs all the way through, having fleet of foot enough to dash to the radio before the tuneless drivel left me permanently damaged. The dates have been confirmed, but the tickets will not go on sale for another couple of days. This is, however, fantastic news...... I have a suggestion for Mark this year...how about including some of the stuff that we voted for last year that didn't get included ?. I'd also quite like to hear something from INFLUENCES. From: anselm_gaynor @ talk21.com Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 11:31:00 GMT+01:00 My favourite quip from Mark... The Point Depot, Dublin, Sunday 22/1/89. Mark had been urging the crowd throughout the show to look out for the fire exits (obviously at the request of the Chief Fire Officer, as it was a brand-new venue which hardly anybody had been in before). However, Mark had looked a bit pissed-off at the sound in the venue all evening, and right before the encore (Love Games) was this: MK (to crowd): Isn't this the shittiest-sounding hall you've ever been in in your life? CROWD CHEERS. MK: No wonder you've got so many fire exits, you should set fire to the fucking place. CROWD (deafeningly loud): YEAH!!!!!!!! Well you had to be there, ladies and gentlemen, you really did.....they really were the most marvellous days. The sound file used to be on an old 42 website. Another funny one is when at the Paradise club in boston they finish Its over and MK goes "its a funny kind of layout this club isnt it, its all out of wack, ya t*ts are all out of wack!" mmmm STANDARD DISCLAIMER: This message is confidential. From: "Jeff Mahoney" Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 22:08:15 +1000 Hi Digesters Mr. Milkman of Sydney Australia , I do believe you have asked a (beauty). As an old bloke I have seen plenty of concerts, but the ones that come to mind that are stand outs for me are...... Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs live at the Opera House 1973..... 3 hour set.....Acoustic ..Rock Opera....Rock.... Thorpie always puts on an Incredible show and I was so happy that my Daughter seen him a couple of years ago at the Blues festival with me in Byron Bay. In his 50's now but can still rock..... Joe Cocker live at the Horden Pavillion 1972 This is the year he was Deported from Australia........ he was swigging Jack Daniels from a bottle and what a show. I was 17 years old and that show has SCARRED ME FOR LIFE.......All I could say was WOW!!!! Gil Scott Heron Live at the Metro in Sydney March 1995 Gil Is a fav.....and to see him finally come to Australia was amazing.......he did 3 shows at the Metro and I attended all of them. he also toured Byron in '96.....I met him...he signed my album and he played my request........ a 20 minute version of there's a war going on......still not released. if any digest member gets a chance to see Gil do it. Plant and Page Live At the Entertainment Centre Sydney 25 2 96 For some (STRANGE) reason I never seen Led Zeppelin when they came to Australia.... I was away I think. but to see Plant and Page made up for it....... the show was IMPECCABLE and they both looked very (healthy) it may not have been as great as a ZEP concert But it was close........ THE THE live at the Horden Pavillion........ Mind Bomb Tour (year??) They came on and it was just power from the first song...... Matt Johnson Has a great voice Johnny Marr was fantastic. there music live is so close to the albums......... I would imagine Level 42 would Have got a mention But they never came to Australia.....which was a shame. As i will be travelling to America in August I will be trying to see some bands.......like RADIOHEAD in Washington 12/8/01 And the Smithereens in Dekalb Illinous 25/8/01 So my top 5 May change...... An Impeccable Groove Cheers From Sydney Jeff ------------------------------ Subject: Geroge Michaels / L42 song From: "Eric Pseja" Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 09:17:15 -0400 If you're thinking the song name that George Michaels and Level 42 share in common is "Freedom" then you're not entirely correct. That song is by Thunderthumbs and the Toetesenmen (spelling?). If you're thinking about GM's remake of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" for "The Sun Goes Down", that's not entirely correct either because of the Go/Goes thing. If the song happens to be some B-side, then I have no clue at all, but at least I gave it a shot! +EPseja+ ------------------------------ Subject: BRITFEST 2001 IMPORTANT From: Michael Thomas Payne Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 09:00:37 -0500 YAWL, I made a comment yesterday regarding that the Britfest was going to be held the weekend prior to the Jazz Cafe gigs, AS I WAS SPEAKING ON THE PHONE TO WINMAN YESTERDAY WHEN I TYPED THAT UP (can't quite multi-task yet I guess), I mis-typed, the point that I was trying to make was this, that weekend would be perfect and should be considered, rather that it being the "DATE" in stone. Sorry, if this has confused anybody and PLEASE do not book any UK (AIR) tickets until you are sure when/where you want to go! I was just so happy with Labour soon-to-be victory, I just got all caught up in the grand scheme of things.....that's the prescription Viacadin speaking. Thanks! In amongst the usual smartarse answers, >no-one got it right. Anyone wanna have a go? Go on, I dare ya. That would be Freedom, or Freedom '90 if the Wham! song doesn't strictly count as a George Michael song. Seems obvious to me. Now, of course, Freedom isn't strictly a Level 42 song, since it was Thunderthumbs & The Toetsenman, but I'm sure that's what you're looking for. ------------------------------ Subject: [ILF] Lessons In Love cover + Verdenburg '85 pics From: "Mueller, Carl" Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 13:05:01 -0400 Thought I'd share this with everyone.
