I figured they cant be 'that' bad. I kinda dig it. 2. So Andrew, after all that stuff you wrote, that means you like this band Jellyfish or what? Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Strange dreams From: "goldie1007" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 11:46:07 +0100 Hi all, It was interesting to read about Steve Randalls 'weird dream' - it reminded me of a dream I once had a few years ago. I was about to move into a new house, and was waiting impatiently for the removal men to arrive. They did eventually arrive, about an hour late, and I stormed out to give them a right earful. When I stepped outside no other than Phil Gould stepped out of the van and apologised profusely for being so late, but they had got lost. I was, of course, speechless at to whom I was talking to, and stood motionless as the entire band proceeded to pile out of the van and start to load my house contents into the van!!! the dream progressed in this manner and, sufficed to say they all did a brilliant job. I woke up and told my dad all about the dream, to which he replied "that would never happen - you only ever get two removal men!" How odd that we have been dreaming of our heroes doing manual work? Cheers, Lozzie xx ------------------------------ Subject: Karl Marx Good - Richard Marx Bad! From: "bunty omar" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 07:17:24 -0400 "But his marketing is truly brilliant. He wrote N Sync's recent hit (can't recall the title, but it had bubbles and forest in the video)" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Irony - yes? MK not invited back to the Jazz Cafe? (although I never felt MK fitted the JC mould comfortably - no Barnaclesque hen-pecked horns for a start and absolutely no promotion or reviews in the London press - unusual for somone of Marks pedigree playing the JC). This is sad news, I fear we're not cutting edge enough for the JC - wankers! - Must be all a bit too embarassing having thier venue filled with hushpuppyed 20/30 somethings waving furry dice 3 hours before the gig. With regards to the Jazz Cafe "not wanting" Mark back - I was in contact= with the Jazz Cafe last week [both the box office and their PR office], an= d they said that Mark's shows over the past 2 years have been a great succe= ss and that they "would love" to have Mark back again this year - but as ye= t, they had not heard from him. From: "Colin Gupta" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 09:30:19 -0500 Subject: The Sting From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 10:52:58 +0100 >As one who feels that music should be heard and not seen.... Yes, I agree. Notwithstanding, it is difficult to capture the emotion attainable with a live performance in a recording. For me, footage often enhances the playback experience of a live recording. If you can't be there in person, a concert on film is the next best thing, no?. I simply enjoy watching a band perform whether it's live, studio or staged for a video. Of course the cost of this is that sonically the playback is compromised, something that DVD helps to rectify. While there is artistic or other merit in some videos, as you have pointed out, I don't really want to see silly videos of top ten hits (although in some instances I'd rather have them than not). Until the day when we have a hologram of an artist's performance in our living rooms, we have to take what we can get. Colin ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 in Melbourne, Florida!!! From: George Bailey Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 07:42:39 -0700 (PDT) I was checking out a new Cafe/Popcorn shop on US 192 in downtown Melbourne, the place looks like a little tiki hut, with a Palm leaf roof and surrounded by banana trees. I was going through the drive through and as I waited for my smoothie I noticed I was bobbing my head to the sound of World Machine. Wow, I thought to myself, this was a great song and right after that The Bends was playing through the stereo system. When the owner of the shop a Jamaican guy named George gave me my celery/apple smoothie I asked him about the music, he smiled and said "That's my favorite Band Mon." he told me how Level 42 was the first concert he had ever gone to in '87 at Maple Leaf gardens in Toronto, and how Boon was absent from the show. George turned out to be a really great guy and has a lot of L42 playing, including Mark King and Mike Lindup solo works. He also say's that he enjoys the music of SADE, Jamiroquai, Bob Marley, original Jamaican SKA, and huge Jimmy Buffett fan. You never know where you'll meet the next L42 fan. Has anyone ever gotten out of a ticket after the cop heard L42 playing in your car? javaman @ pciol.net level42dad @ excite.com _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ ------------------------------ Subject: Bass set up From: "brian bacon" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 19:52:03 Hiyall, Not posted for a while. Just got some Rotosound 35-90 strings for my bass, but as usual made a complete hash of putting them on, Can anyone give me some tips as to how I can get the intonation set up properly? I may try again with a set of strings I managed to scrounge of Corrs' bass player Keith Duffy last month. Thank's Keith. They are 45-100 though, a bit to heavy for slapping. Any other digesters catch Nik Kershaw at Manchester Uni the other night? Fantastic set from another classy 80s artist. Bit of slapping too to help things along a little. Nik was kind enough to pose for photos and sign stuff after the gig, what a gent ! The set sale side of the sell off will remain open untill further notice. Here`s a reminder of where the site is. www.level42.20m.com/welcome.html ------------------------------ Subject: Britfest 2001 Update From: "Philip Lee" Organization: ;-) Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 23:03:41 +0100 Dear All, I have updated the BritFest 2001 web site http://www.tazmania.org.uk/britfest/ Hey, if anyone has some good ideas for this years briefest can you email them to the digest. I would like to get as many ideas out in the open. I'd especially be interested in any way we could continue our support for The Children Say Charity. Ideas please... So what has been organised so far ? Looks like this year we will have lots of live music. Y-Chromo-Boyz, Level43 (hopefully) and last years House Band. No date and venue yet. As soon as I get confirmation of the MK tour dates we will get the ball rolling fairly quickly. Assume a Saturday in November for now. Also, I am still looking for volunteers to set up a small organising committee. I am happy to get the ball rolling and act as instigator but those involved last year decided that this year would be better organised. This may seem a bit over the top but the idea is to form a small committee to spread the work load and responsibilities across a number of people. Based on previous years experiences from the last 3 BritFest's I propose the committee to be made up of three key individuals: 1) Chairman type person in-charge, to drive the event along, co-ordinate activities, especially on the day. 2) Secretary/Communications type person. Writing begging letters, emails, plugging the event through various means. 3) Treasurer. I might consider this role if someone would second me ? I already have a briefest Bank account from last year. also supporting roles... 4) Web & Graphics design. Web site, Posters, tickets, flyers. 5) People to help out on the day. Shifting stuff about (set-up and clear away), Taking money on the door. 6) Offers to loan equipment.. Video projectors, Music systems, Disco kit, PA etc... I have already got Andy Smith to be 'Musical Director' and Richard Smith as 'Ideas man' and 'Agony Uncle'. A few kind souls have offered to loan equipment, and the bands of course!
