He wrote N Sync's recent hit (can't recall the title, but it had bubbles and forest in the video). Marx, like many writers, pens one honeysuckle-sweet song quite well, and he does so again and again and again. He's doing something right, even if it doesn't live up the exalted standards of The Lighthouse Family. ...Alex... ------------------------------ Subject: Progressive things... Any ideas what the file on Napster is entitled 'progressive things' - I would not like to hazard a guess what era it is from?

------------------------------ Subject: Krys Mach to play L.A. From: "alien horse" Date: Mon, 28 May 2001 21:32:02 -0400 Greetings Everyone! Krys Mach will be playing at Jax, a Jazz Supper Club in Glendale, California (Northern suburb of Los Angeles) this Wednesday evening, 05.30.01.. It seems that he plays this venue somewhat regularly. Perhaps he now resides here? He has recorded an album with an L.A. based Jazz radio D.J. and guitarist Tony Palkovic, Yes & Moody Blues keyboardist Patrick Moraz and drummer Kevin Sherrill. The album is under the name Tony Palkovic and is titled 'Esoteric'. I will be attending the show and if anyone else from the Digest would like to attend as well, let's meet there! The show starts at 9:00pm. There is no cover and no drink minimum. The venue opens for dinner at 5:30pm. Here is the rest of the info.: Jax 339 N. Brand Boulevard Glendale, California 818.500.1604 [www.whatscookn.com/jazzsched.htm] Please e-mail Me privately at [alienhorse @ hotmail.com] if interested in hooking up at this show. Lars ------------------------------ Subject: Sad Message From: "Laurence F. GREEN(SED)" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 09:01:22 +0100 Had a really sad event yesterday. Because the University server was down, I had to use my home email for the first time in over a year. I found this message from Andy Sojka: ------------------ Hi, Do you know of a Level 42 live recording where there's a PHENOMENAL drum solo by Phil Gould? A friend of mine played me it years ago, and now can't remember where it's from. Do you know if it's on CD somewhere? Thanks very much Andy --------------------- Well, for those of you who don't know. Andy passed away, what, about 6 months ago now I guess. I've no idea what the drum solo is he's asked about either? Anyone? Best L()Z ------------------------------ Subject: A new thread From: "Randall, Steve" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 05:32:37 -0400 I'm sure some of you have had some ridiculous dreams about Level 42. How about you all tell us. I'll start the ball rolling. This is my waking up one this morning! There I was at work, and we had some carpenters in, building a new broom cupboard. I was told that this was for the use of our new labourer / sweeper up / tea maker. My boss showed me the guys details, and told me he was retired, and just needed a little income to keep "ticking over". When I read it through, it turned out to be Mark King. When I explained who he was, my governor was dismayed, as he said I would now be impossible. However I insisted it would be a normal working arrangement, and I would observe his privacy, so there would not be fans hanging around. When I got to work on Monday morning, there he was, pushing the broom around already, as he started earlier than me. Keep buying it we need your support! We're getting more radio play in the UK at the moment also, Mark Lamar on Radio 2 has talked about us and has apparently played som of our demo tracks. Hopefully I can wangle a full interview with him for the new album! Any of you guys heard us else where on the radio waves - if so please give me a shout and I'll chase up with the new album. I would also like to say that the Real Audio samples from the album will be up later tonight. Also , any publicity you guys could give us would be fantastic - again please email me. Thanks again guys, Phil YCB (The band the Level 42 Digest put on the map) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Subject: The Sting From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 10:52:58 +0100 >Subject: Level 42 on DVD >From: "Colin Gupta" > >For those who don't care, sorry to bring this up again (especially you >nightfly who would buy them and then sell them). Now it’s funny you should mention that, because I have in my hand copies of the Video Singles and Live At Wembley videos which I picked up from my local charity emporium. As one who feels that music should be heard and not seen (with the exception of the videos for New Frontier, that Radiohead one with the bloke lying in the street and anything by Janet Jackson for purely academic choreographical purposes) I am looking to pass these on to anyone who wants them. Cost me £2.99 each. Richard Maybury – I am a slave to democracy and I must insist on one man, one question mark. And finally... Some while back somebody here mentioned the band Jellyfish in plaintive, wistful tones. As a result I last week picked up the album Spilt Milk on the off chance it might proffer some minor nuggets of satisfaction. Where do I begin? The melodic wit of Ben Folds Five, the sophistication of Brian Wilson, the vocal harmonies of Queen, the singalong hooks of Los Ronaldos, all thrown in the mix with stanzas like "So Father Mason clutching his crucifix, baptized the baby in whiskey and licorice, what a lovely way, drowning sins in tooth decay". It’s simply devastating. In fact, their willingness to toss in majestic moments of musical nuance sotto voce, and trust in the intelligence of the listener to pick them up, is almost reminiscent of – no, I can’t say it. What I will say is that barely half a dozen listens in, this album is hurtling towards indispensability, and to whoever unknowingly prodded me in this direction – I thank you.
