Without having actually heard anything he's played on (to my knowledge) I'm already indebted to this guy thanks to his fascinating books & magazine articles on beat displacement and rhythmic modulation (and I'm just a bass player) - This guy is a monster technician. >Subject: water runs uphill >From: Tom Trudell >Greatest Dream Band: David Byrne, Mark King, Neil Peart. The song in question was called 'This is my song' and was by People in progress. All I know is that Mark played on the record and sang one line. I have this on 7" single and its signed my Eddy Grant!!!!!1 hope that answers your question Erik. regards all Lisa ------------------------------ Subject: From: "lisa" Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 23:02:02 -0000 If I've missed anyone out I apologise but this is just to let you know that my BTinternet account is no longer alive and all emails will be bounced back to you if you write to me there. my email addresses are either mrspink @ lineone.net or lisa42 @ icqmail.com speak to you all soon Lisa ------------------------------ Subject: The Level 42 debate From: "Sole G." Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2001 00:10:18 +0100 Hi Levelheads! I have read all the comments about the Level 42 albums in the last days and I want to contribute with my opinion about the subject. I agree that "Guaranteed" is a dark album but itīs obvious as their approach of making music changed. This change was evident with "Staring at the Sun", the music couldnīt sound the same after the leaving of the Gould brothers and Gary Husbandīs manner of playing drums stamped a more aggressive character to the band. It began a new age for Level 42 more or less successful I must say, but that turned the band into a "culte band". With "Forever Now" however, they recovered some of the old funky feeling (remember songs like "Tired of waiting", "romance" or "The sunbed song") but itīs normal as Phil Gould was there collaborating on the album, so in my opinion, the real Level 42 are Mark, Mike, Phil and Boon. When they split up they werenīt Level 42 anymore, at least not in its essence. About the subject of the Level 42 crappy songs, as a Levelhead said in the Digest number 11, even the worst of the Level 42 songs is better than the most part of what we listen today, thatīs the very truth. Finally and changing the subject, the other day I heard of two bands that can be put on the list of similar to Level, one is Living in a box (the same lively and colourful tone) and the other is Wax (I listened to a song called "Bridge to your heart", I wonder if any Levelhead know that song). And of course, Y-Chromo Boyz, the great revelation for this brand-new year 2001. Have a good time! Hey Eric - I think the collective was called Ferry Aid and the song was recorded to raise cash for the families of the victims of the Townsend Thoresen ferry which fell over in 1986 off Zebrugge - (excuse my dodgy spelling) - I remember watching the drama unfold on tv. Anyhow, somewhere in my extensive record collection, I have the single in mint condition. I'm afraid I don't have an mp3, but let me know if you want me to stick it on a tape for you. Cheers: Mike (Sydney City Milkman) P.S. I also have that Thunderthumbs track 'Freedom' on a crap Polydor double album compilation called 'Move, Groove & Nightclubbing'. They must have thought long and hard about THAT title! P.P.S. Yesterday I saw a brand new compilation CD called Inspirations or something. It included 'Starchild'. At $33, however, it remains on the shelf at the shop! _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Subject: Post # 2 From: "Mike Bartlett" Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2001 00:02:52 Forgot to mention: that dodgy Polydor collection 'Move, Groove & Nightclubbing' I mentioned in my earlier post also contains 'Weave Your Spell'. Probably the only two decent tracks on there. I've also got an old CD called 'Keep Movin' On' which contains 'Flying On The Wings Of Love - UK Dance Floor Mix (6:55)'. Also has one of my fave 80s toons - Junior's 'Mama Used To Say'. Just thought I'd share with the class.
