Well I sent the scans to Carl but it doesn't say anything about remastering. However the CD does sound pretty good. I'll have to do a 1:1 test to say any more. Will let you know asap. >And if they've released a compilation cd of tracks from Guaranteed and >Forever Now, are they planning to release these remastered anytime soon? Remember that I bought this CD for a mere DM12,95 which is about 5 US bucks I guess.... That should say enough about any plans that BMG might have in that direction I guess. >Why didn't they just do that in the first place? Just think, being able to >listen to The Ape remastered! See above. If you are really interested in remastered versions: Buy the japanese 20 bit remastered version of Forever Now. But be sure to order the correct catalogue number !!!!!! or you will get the normal Japanese version. I know there have been discussions about the sound quality of this "supposed to be" remastered CD but I only trust my ears: it simply does sound better than the UK release. No matter what they did to it. And it also contains the two extra tracks. If you want to know more, mail me personaly. >Who knows, maybe there's a remixed version >that they're just waiting to put on as a bonus track; maybe a live version >or two. Wow!;o) Let's hope not ! Groetjes, Andre ------------------------------ Subject: Douglas Adems has died From: Walter Franken Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 15:09:36 +0200 FYI British author Douglas Adams has died in Santa Barbara, California, aged 49 years. Adams was known as the author of the science-fiction novell "The hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" (of which Level 42 derived it's name). Mr Adams, who was married with a daughter, died yesterday morning following a heart attack, his London spokeswoman Sophie Astin said. His cult science fiction saga, about a group of galactic travellers who survive the demolition of the earth to build a by-pass, was published in 1979. He became a household name when it became a BBC radio and TV series. source: Dutch Teletext, BBS teletext, CNNtext ------------------------------ Subject: Bonus tracks on re-issues. From: Ken Hayes Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 10:45:40 -0400 (EDT) I was listening to the re-issue of true colours and it struck me that the bonus demos weren't something I'd listen to or want on the C.D. if I was only a casual fan. It's great to hear how the tracks devolped from demo to final recording but if I wasn't such a big fan It would definitely piss me off to have to skip the tracks with Mark singing Dum de dum, and I would think that their inclusion was unnecessary and detracted from the overall enjoyment of the album. On another note I had a great idea for a competiton. If Mark has so much used tracks, he could put one that he doesn't intend doing much with and put it on line for people to listen to,and the competition would be for people to listen to the vocal melody and write the lyrics for the song just like Boon and Phil did when they heard Marks demos. The winner would be the person with the best lyrics which could be used by Mark either as a B-side or something or just post it on his site. Just a thought. And I say that as someone with half an eye on the Eurovision Song Contest. Duran Duran were my favourite band for about 10 minutes in 1981, and I still have a lot of affection for the first album (even if the CD re-issue heinously drops Is There Something I Should Know in the middle where it has no business). I don't need them as a bunch of middle-aged bankrupts trampling all over my memories for the sake of their pensions. This also gives me another chance to mention that they were the second band I saw live. A month after Kraftwerk. That's how cool I was at 13. Where did it all go wrong?
